Matt Damon: Sarah Palin is “Totally Absurd”

Matt Damon just spoke out on Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to The Associated Press. The 37-year-old actor compares her possibility of being President to a ‘really bad Disney movie’. Ouch!

Damon shared, “I think there’s a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that’s a really scary thing… I don’t know anything about her and in eight weeks, I don’t think I’m going to know anything about her. I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town and she’s the governor for Alaska for less than two years. I just don’t understand. I think the pick was made for political purposes… Do the actuary tables and there’s a one out of three chance, if not more, that [John] McCain doesn’t survive his first term and it’ll be President Palin… It’s like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ‘oh, I’m just a hockey mom’… and she’s facing down Vladimir Putin (of Russia)… It’s totally absurd… it’s a really terrifying possibility.”

Since when does Matt Damen have the education or life experience to truly understand what the average american family goes through or feels? I know I know- he was a struggling actor who made good. I wonder if his opinion would be different if he weren’t living in his big mansion with a nanny raising, oops, I mean “caring” for his children. Stick to what you know- making crappy movies for a ton of money! Please!

what the heck @ 09/11/2008 at 9:27 pm

Requirement for President? @ 09/11/2008 at 6:31 pm

so obama went to Harvard; i should be impressed? i guess an ivy league education automatically puts him on the fast track to the white house; in his dreams. what there were now wars he could have been involved in? excuse me what was the first iraq invasion during president bush senior’s tenure. a walk in the park. and i suppose this Harvard education of his also gave him the message that it’s ok for the president of the united states to negotiate with terrorist states.

as for the desire to help the needy.. sure wonderful. is that why he wants to raise taxes across the board? not just those people who are thought of as rich but the middle class as well. and what do we get? a pat on back telling us how wonderful it is to support other people’s children. how wonderful it is to support people on welfare who should be working. i WILL NOT BE forced to be financially responsible for children that are not mine.

Johnnyboy @ 09/11/2008 at 9:40 pm

what the heck writes ” i WILL NOT BE forced to be financially responsible for children that are not mine.”

You won’t help fellow Americans but you’re willing to pay $350 million dollars a day for a BS war in Iraq which is based on BS lies from George W? Instead of fighting the terrorists in Afghanistan Georgie Boy went way off target to fight a war in Iraq instead of going after the terrorists who kiled Americans!!! How frickin stupid is that? And now the people of America are going to reward his administration and elect McCain/Palin - I don’t think so!!!
Obama had the brains to see thru the BS and stand strong in the face of blatant abuse of power - that alone makes him the best man for the job!!! George W and the republicans have put the US in massive debt, blatantly lied repeatdely on serious issues and have made no improvements in the lives of Americans over the last 8 years - they screwed up big time!!!

i’m not sure which video some of you watched, but i clearly heard Matt say Vladimir Putin and not President Putin. Matt is entitled to his opinion like the rest of us, and he raised an interesting point. no one wants to talk about the possibility that she could become president. i respect what she’s done, but she’s been more vocal since the convention than mccain. what does that tell you? if you want to put her in office just because she’s a woman, maybe the election is just a popularity contest……

its official, this country and world are doomed. too many idiots.

every aspect of this country has declined since 2000 and you all want 4 more years of the same policies. i really dont understand your logic…

we’re in a recession and inflation is tearing my ass up. i can work all year, get a raise, and still my quality of life decreases because i now cant afford ****. all because of **** bag republicans economic policies. get a clue, read a book or something

right wing ideas and low IQs go hand in hand, thats a fact

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, let’s remember, opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.

The real problem with celebrities mouthing off THEIR opinion is that because of their ’status’ & massive wealth, people think they are smart and value their opinion - misguided though it may be. People in Hollywood are, for the most part, no more informed than the rest of us. The advantage they have, is the platform on which they have to speak. They can have an audience with thousands to millions, while us NORMAL, hardworking people (that support THEM) have access to a mere fraction of that.

Are people aware that if Mr. Ryan (actress Jeri Ryan’s ex husband) had not been involved in a sex scandal that forced him to drop out of the Senatorial race in Illinois, no one would probably know who Obama is. Ryan was an up & coming democrat and him dropping out of that race opened up the door and in walked the charismatic Obama.

Obama does not have the experience, nor is he qualified to run the Office of the President of the United States. Last time I checked, charisma was not a qualifying factor.

Our great country is the leader of the free world. OUR leader has to maintain troops around the world and be prepared to defend and support those who are not capable of protecting themselves from the evil that wants to overtake them and rob of their right to freedom. The Obama/Biden ticket do not have these qualities OR desires. I cannot even imagine the absolute collapse & chaos that would ensue with the removal of our troops from posts around the world.

That is just the tip of the iceberg. Start in on the problems on going within our own country - healthcare issues, unemployment, taxes, welfare, etc. and I know that my vote is going to the only candidates with true experience - McCain/Palin.

Vote, Vote, Vote……

Thank you Matt for speaking the obvious truth!!! Palin’s nomination, to satisfy the religious right ,who own the RNP, is an insult to thinking women. What is this country thinking nominating an aging GI Joe who is a Bush/wolf covered in a sheepskin and a Bad Barbie. She doesn’t believe in science and tell me how that will take us into the future. Let’s “drill drill” which in no ways answers the problem at hand. She will set women and people’s rights back to the dinosaur,,oh sorry they don’t exsist only Adam and Eve. I’m so disgusted!!!

There is substance to what Matt Damon says. Just listen. Those who criticizes him for this comment because of “he is a bad actor” is just not listening or just unwilling to listen.

Hey, people, Matt Damon DID NOT say President Putin, he just said “Putin of Russia” dummies.

Actors can have an opinion too, just like you and I they have the right to voice their opinion. “Actor” is their job, they can have opinion. This is America. If you can have an opinion so does he.

Palin was very carefully, strategically chosen so that the Republican can win . . . wake up! This is politics. If Damon can sense that, more power to him not the overbearing criticisms of some people on this thread.

Why is Matt Damon commenting on this anyway and who cares what he thinks.

He’s an actor - glorified word for someone who’s good at ‘make believe’. Whoopdeedoo.

What did he do? Call his agent to tell them he wanted to comment, and then it becomes headline news? An advanced internet search for “Matt Damon” Palin results in 825,000 matches??? The mass media is worried about all of the positive press the governor Palin is receiving so they have to bring out the big guns - Matt Damon! What an absurd joke this story is! Appealing to the uneducated followers.

And we don’t think the media teaches people how to think?

Moehighness @ 09/11/2008 at 10:42 pm

If you all are under 40 years of age, I’ll understand and sympathize your stupidity… Please research socialized medicine in other countries (forget MANY other issues), and tell (not me) yourselves this is how you want your future and your children’s to be. I have lived through too many Aunt’s & Uncle’s (living in Scotland), dying prematurely and unnecessarily BECAUSE of the limitations and restrictions of this type of practice! If the Obama THING is elected, I will contemplate leaving the, before him, great USA! It will never be too great after …. WAKE UP AND REALLY CHOOSE!

I honestly never realized the abundance of bullheaded, ignorant, intellectually limited and damn pround of it Americans. God have mercy on you because if McCain/Palin win, and Palin’s words tonight about the possible need to war with Russia come to pass; added to the other two wars we’re already fighting, added to our faltering economy, added to every other issue that WILL get pushed even further to the backburner. You’re already donning blinders where the hell Bush has leveled on us, so you’ll have no excuse, and no one but yourself and the false sense of patriotism to blame if you give the so-called Mavericks the opportunity to further what Rove-Bush-Cheney have already leveled on our country and seem to have no regrets about it.

Remember this, “Bush HAD experience and you elected him twice.”

He’s an actor - glorified word for someone who’s good at make believe. I was really good at that when I was four year old.

What did he do? Call his agent to tell them he wanted to comment, and then it becomes headline news? Or did the liberals call him up to see if he was up for it? An advanced internet search for “Matt Damon” Palin results in 825,000 matches??? The media is worried about all of the positive attention the governor Palin is receiving so they have to bring out the big guns - Matt Damon! What an absurd joke this story is! And we don’t think the media teaches people how to think? And sadly, they think you’re so stupid, you’ll be influenced by what some pretender thinks.

Why is a governor so much scarier than a senator? Is she scary to Matt because she’s a woman or she’s gone to a hockey game?

The whole spiel sounds scripted anyway. Notice he keeps looking down to his right side where the cue cards are?

I mean the lady thinks dinos walked the earth 4000 yrs ago!!!
——-
Apparently that is false! see factcheck.org

“I think the pick was made for political purposes.” What other reason is there in a political race? Was Biden a pick because he would make a really GOOD Disney movie? She may be just a hockey mom, but you’re JUST an actor. Remember Matt, you are not a clever intellect, you just play one in the movies.

a) Celebrities have just as much right to talk politics as any other person. If people are willing to listen to them then they SHOULD use their influence to talk to people. If you don’t like what they have to say then don’t listen to them! You should be having your own opinions anyway. Be glad they care enough to talk about it instead of thinking that politics don’t matter and they don’t have to vote!

b) Stop voting for one person just so that somebody else doesn’t win! There are many more than two political parties and presidential candidates. If you REALLY WANT CHANGE vote third party! Do yourselves and your country a favor by educating yourself on the options. THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO CHOICES PEOPLE!! Vote for someone you really believe in and you will make a difference. If you vote for the “lesser of two evils” then you just ensure that we will never have a great president and therefore we will never have a great country.

Don’t let yourself be a victim, do some research, help yourself out and give the Libertarian party a chance! Don’t like the Libertarian party? Check out the Green party. Don’t like the Green party? Guess what…. there’s plenty more to choose from!!!!!

Thank God Someone finally said what the main stream media has been to scared to say……Plain is a JOKE; And if the American people vote for a ticket where she is more than likely to have to step into the role as president then this country is a joke as well.

PS: “Us People” in Hollywood are way smarter than all u country hicks out there…if it was up to me, California would be its own country. God know people on the left coast are tired of being part of a country of thoughtless, fearful, idiots

What really amazes me is the ignorance people have (like the statement from chriseler 1) about a president being able to take away a woman’s “right to choose”. If any of these people were knowledgeable about the Roe V Wade case (or sought out knowledge about it), they would know that if it were overturned, it would not make abortions illegal. It would just remove it from being a federal issue and return the decision to the state governments where it should be. Then each individual state could regulate the issue in whatever manner they feel is representative of their population. Frankly, I don’t believe “abortion” should be a political issue. It is a personal and social issue that should be handled by the individual making the decision. The procedure should be regulated by state law in whatever manner the state chooses to regulate it and if a person chooses to have one (or not to have one), that person can deal with the moral consequences of their own action. Just another reason why liberals and their constituents should not be in office. The elimination of needless federal legislation and the spending of tax dollars on needless law enforcement. For that reason alone, Palin would make a good vp and president if it should happen.

HillarySupporter @ 09/12/2008 at 12:51 am

Obama made the biggest mistake in his political career by not picking Hillary Clinton, too late now!!!!

McCain-Palin08 @ 09/12/2008 at 12:54 am

Keep the momentum going McCain-Palin…………..

This is hillarious, Matt Damon commenting on politics? Matt Damon…the guy protrayed as a brain dead puppet in Team America. Matt, let your great political proverds live on….to a serious matter. This is the extreme wrong answer; having celebrities inject their views on politics. Believe it or not, there are Americans who can’t see pass the BS such as this and this interview might atcually persuade someones vote one way or another. If we need any advice from movie stars, maybe it should just be them recomending an anti-depressant, or maybe a good therapist, perhaps a good corner to buy an eightball.

Hey Matt, you ignorant dweeb. If you are going to criticize someone’s religion, at least know something about it. There is not a Christian on Earth that thinks dinosaurs roamed the planet in 2,000BC. Why not go back to school and get a decent education you washed up, sexist, atheist, hollywood, moron.

What’s absurd is the notion that anyone should think the political opinions of actors have any special significance. What’s Matt’s expertise, apart from being a knee-jerk liberal? For that matter, does he even really believe any of the stuff he purports to, or is it all just an attempt to suck up to Clooney?

Besides, Obama supporters shouldn’t get too snippy about the experience issue. What has Obama done as a first-term senator except run for president?

What makes Damon think Obama or Biden can be any tougher a leader than McCain or Palin? Is he supposed to be an expert on toughness because he played Jason Bourne in movies?

Come on, that would be WWIII. I don’t think Georgia is worth it, do you? If it gets really bad between the US and Russia, I think the UN will go the sanctions way.
I don’t see why Georgia should be a member of NATO. That would complicates things. What else could Sarah Palin have said? It is NATO’s job to go help its members in time of trouble.
Russia is already occupying two provinces of Georgia (Ossetia and Abkhazia), and soon it will probably take the rest of Georgia, which was a part of the USSR anyway.

I understand the US has an agreement with Taiwan that it would come to Taiwan’s defense if China tries to take it. I don’t think the US would fight China for Taiwan, do you? I think Taiwan and China will one day unite peacefully anyway. Lots of Taiwanese are already living on the mainland.
Things have changed in the world. Look at Tibet. Nobody is helping Tibet. Maybe if it has oil…….
