Matt Damon: Sarah Palin is “Totally Absurd”

Matt Damon just spoke out on Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to The Associated Press. The 37-year-old actor compares her possibility of being President to a ‘really bad Disney movie’. Ouch!

Damon shared, “I think there’s a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that’s a really scary thing… I don’t know anything about her and in eight weeks, I don’t think I’m going to know anything about her. I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town and she’s the governor for Alaska for less than two years. I just don’t understand. I think the pick was made for political purposes… Do the actuary tables and there’s a one out of three chance, if not more, that [John] McCain doesn’t survive his first term and it’ll be President Palin… It’s like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ‘oh, I’m just a hockey mom’… and she’s facing down Vladimir Putin (of Russia)… It’s totally absurd… it’s a really terrifying possibility.”

That would complicate things.

Matt is god @ 09/12/2008 at 3:48 am

Neo cons are a joke.

I guess the truth hurts when it comes down to you corrupt neo-cons who can’t handle it.

if anything there be more matt damon truth parties all over the country and you wont be invited! when that hockey ***** palin loses.

tell the truth matt! right on!

Matt,

Thank you for having the stones to say what a lot of people are afraid to say. Those who’ve met you, supported your projects, and have paid any kind of attention to your career could easily ascertain that you have half a brain in your head and are the kind of guy who pays attention, READS, and knows what rhetoric is and how its used to brainwash the lowest common denominator of people (the kind who couldn’t survive in a Harvard English class, much less a remedial community college critical thinking course).

The unfortunate side to this nasty business is that you’re right and there’s nothing we can do about it. The McDonald’s-Walmart-Pizza Hut-Video Gaming masses are going to ultimately out-breed the intellectual, socially responsible and culturally conscious folks. This chemically-enhanced, potato-chip-fed, koolaid crowd is going to line up like pigs at a hog trough (circa the hillbillie gay haters from Ohio in 2004)and vote for McCain and Palin just to spite the “uppity”, smarty-pants do-gooders.

So, the best thing we can do Matt, is to make money off of these mouth breathers and give it to the causes that truly have a fighting chance..like the beluga whales off the shores of Alaska. Oh wait, they are apparently not in any danger, no siree. Scratch that. Okay, how about global warming? No, no…we don’t need to worry about that; apparently that problem doesn’t exist, come to find out. Well, how about donating some good books to community libraries? Oh, they are all stocked up? Hmmm….it IS a Disney movie and everything IS just great, just great, just great, just great, just great. Ooops! Sorry folks, the record got stuck. Let me reset it for another eight years.

Oh, and Matt…call me, let’s do lunch, but make sure you wear your **** Cheney disguise. I wouldn’t want to be seen with the likes of Matt Damon in this country. No offense, but we are a dying breed and I wouldn’t want to be shot down in a hail of Republican vitriol like a wolf at his final supper.

It is a shame to read all these ignorant comments. Matt Damon is 100% right about Sarah Palin. This candidate cannot answer one question about anything. It is embarrasing that this candidate, Sarah Palin, does not even read the newspaper to say the things she says. In order to speak, the Republicans need to select the interviewer and the questions to be asked. She then has to rehearse her answers and not deviate her responses. She is not allowed in public to answer any questions from anybody, not even the people whose votes she needs. Is this ridiculous or what? Matt Damon is a very successful actor who doesn’t need to rehearse his answers to simple questions. Matt Damon is a better pick for Vice President.

The irony of elite Hollywood is baffling. What does Matt Damon know? He admitted it in the first line of the interview. I don’t know anything about Palin, he said. Well, Matt, start Googling! There is more than enough to keep your small mind working. Remember President Clinton? He was Governor of a small state. Arkansas. Remember that? You thought he had enough experience. I can’t think of a smaller, less sophisticated state as Arkansas. Also, Matt, our founding fathers did not mean for politics to be a life long career for people. It is a government, by the people for the people. Does that sound familiar? Maybe not, maybe you never had to utter those words in one of your scripts so you haven’t had the need to memorize that but take it from a proud American, that was the role that government was intended to be.

what the heck @ 09/12/2008 at 9:59 am

it just came to me; if obama wins the white house all well and good. all we republicans have to do is take control of the house and senate. that way, we can stop obama from increasing our taxes across the board, stop him from meeting with terrorists/and or their leaders, etc ect. in other words we can make obama a lame duck for 4 years.

Celebrities have as much right to speak their mind as any other American- but they have a much bigger listening audience. With that audience, that ability to affect others, comes a responsibility to know what you’re talking about. In this case, Matt just doesn’t, and so ends up misusing his popularity. He’s honest that he’s not informed, and that’s a great start- but to then go on with a series of slams on someone who has more executive experience than anyone else in the race is just not right.

Being a Senator means trying to work things cooperatively, and that’s good. But the President has to make the tough calls, not try to get everyone to agree on them in a committee. Only Governor Palin has the recent experience of making the tough calls. McCain had to make the tough calls during his military career. Biden and Obama, as career politicians working only in legislative positions, have never had to have the buck stop with them. Just something to think about.

Even with that in mind, though, Matt can say what he likes. I’d simply ask that he study up on what he’s going to talk about- the way Bono studied with some of he world’s leading economists before he started talking about debt relief. Using the fact that you get media attention to present an uninformed view does no good, making Matt look not too smart, and making the “Hollywood left” look all about gunning for Sarah Palin.

I believe that Matt can do better than this. I hope he does.

As a devout homosexual, I am deeply offended by Mr. Damon’s implication that Disney is capable of producing a “bad movie”…

what the heck @ 09/12/2008 at 12:16 pm

Johnnyboy @ 09/11/2008 at 9:40 pm

hey if you are willing to financially support other people’s children then all power to you. but i am not. my husband and i are financially responsible for only three children; our own. we pay for their medical, dental, school, clothing, food etc. we DO NOT now or will we ever expect our neighbors or the government to pay for our children. they are our responsibility. so yes, i resent being made financially responsible for children that aren’t mine. if you are old enough to have children then you should be old enough to support your own children. if you do not have the ability to provide for children then don’t have them. stop expecting others to pay for them.

I don’t get the part about dinasours…does Matt not believe their were dinasours? His tone seemed to indicate that if she believes there were, then she is crazy.

Liberals despise the “religious right” because they remind liberals of their inherent selfishness and immorality.

john riley @ 09/12/2008 at 1:21 pm

The more the liberals hate and attack Sarah Palin, the more you realize she’s the best possible candidate.

Oh please people. Actors have just as much of a right to have an opinion as we do. Get off your high horses.
You all make me annoyed. All you do is listen to the lies and promises you want to hear, elect a ******* leader that’s incapable of leading and in danger of leading the whole world to ******* destruction, and then turn around and whine about it! Open your ******* eyes and vote for someone who has a brain and is actually worried about the state of the WORLD, not just the good ol’ US of A. There’s more the world than just you! Yes, you’ve got fire power, you’ve got a great army, and can destroy the world with a touch of a button, and control a lot of trade and commerce. SO WHAT?
You think that other countries couldn’t pull their **** together and bomb the hell out of you like you do to the rest of the world? That we’ll all just turn a blind eye because “OMG, it’s the USA! They’re so ******* important”

Elect someone who has a brain, not just because she’s a women and has no ******* clue how to run a state as a mayor, let along the ******* country.

A questions for all of you nimrods that say Matt Damon should shut up and stay out politics because he is an actor: Did you vote Arnold for Governor?

John Riley,

What would Jesus do? Offer health care to those less fortunate or ask for greater tax breaks and invade a sovreign nation. Don’t preach to me about immorality until you learn what real morality is.

Yeah, Chris…young girls should have the opportunity to choose. They should “choose the future of their body and their life”, as you say, before she conceives a baby, not after. It’s called owning up to your own actions.

matt damon is an idiot.

celebrities should keep their traps shut about politics. they try to keep everything else in their personal life private, why annouce this kind of stuff.

matt damon is a total idiot and has just lost my respect.

Wow… the sheer ignorance of Damon just proves why he should keep his biased opinions to himself. He doesn’t even know Palin’s credentials .
All he just accomplished for me is my decision NOT to watch him in anything anymore.

Oh my word, quit thinking with such lunacy. Just because Palin is pro-life does not mean she is going to taking away other women’s right to choose. What was conveniently left out of McCain and his wife’s interview this morning was that McCain also said “Although he is pro-choice, he respects women’s right to choose.” Mrs. McCain also added “in situations of rape and incest, she believed in women’s right to choose abortion as an option.” Please listen to the full interview before passing judgment.
We all can’t be like Obama and believe it’s okay to abort, abort, abort, and, in the case the child survives the abortion, we should leave he/she on the chopping block for a few days to die an agonizing and disgusting death. I’ve seen it done. I don’t see how you could live with yourself and some can’t.
Also, Democrats only speak complete lunacy when they associate our fallen military men and women to aborted fetuses, as the same. Republicans do not purposely kill our military men and women, however, they are also not afraid of a fight. God bless and find peace.

I like the fact that Palin is in touch with common people. Because she is one of us. It is not like there aren’t enough career politicians in Washington to keep it running as usual, but it would be nice to have a strong voice in Washington lobbying for common folk. I think she is a strong leader who is capable of holding her own with anyone and with good people at her side giving good information I think she would be able make the right decisions for the country. What is most encouraging I think she wants to make the right decisions for the Country all self interests aside.

Why is that everytime a celebrity of sorts has a political opinion different than your own, they are automatically “stupid” or “uninformed” or “should stick to acting”? This doesn’t seem fair to me…

Just because Palin is pro-life does not mean she is going to taking away other women’s right to choose.
There are ignorant people who don’t know that Congress makes or overturns laws, not the president or his veep.

What was conveniently left out of McCain and his wife’s interview this morning was that McCain also said “Although he is pro-choice, he respects women’s right to choose.” Mrs. McCain also added “in situations of rape and incest, she believed in women’s right to choose abortion as an option.”
There you go! I didn’t watch it, but I think they said these things on The View, right?

Please listen to the full interview before passing judgment.
I think there must be many people like Matt Damon, who don’t know anything or don’t listen, but judge.
