Matt Damon: Sarah Palin is “Totally Absurd”
Matt Damon just spoke out on Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to The Associated Press. The 37-year-old actor compares her possibility of being President to a ‘really bad Disney movie’. Ouch!
Damon shared, “I think there’s a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that’s a really scary thing… I don’t know anything about her and in eight weeks, I don’t think I’m going to know anything about her. I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town and she’s the governor for Alaska for less than two years. I just don’t understand. I think the pick was made for political purposes… Do the actuary tables and there’s a one out of three chance, if not more, that [John] McCain doesn’t survive his first term and it’ll be President Palin… It’s like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ‘oh, I’m just a hockey mom’… and she’s facing down Vladimir Putin (of Russia)… It’s totally absurd… it’s a really terrifying possibility.”

So what makes Obama more qualified????

Why is that everytime a celebrity of sorts has a political opinion different than your own, they are automatically “stupid” or “uninformed” or “should stick to acting”? This doesn’t seem fair to me…
——-
That’s not it at all, LUCAS!
Matt Damon judged Sarah Palin without knowing anything about her!!! He said it himself that he doesn’t know anything about her, but then said she is ‘totally absurd.’ Does THAT seem fair to you??? I’ll answer that for you. NO! That is why many posters told him to stick to making movies.
I’ve posted this before - if he had said, “I’ve read everything I could find about Sarah Palin and I find her totally absurd, she scares me” etc etc, I wouldn’t criticize him, because we are all entitled to our opinions, but now that he has judged her without knowing anything about her, and I’m sure he is not a stupid person, what does that make him? A male chauvinist pig, imo!
Of course Matt Damon is qualidfied to comment. In fact, he’s every bit as qualified to comment as Rush Limbaugh was, who had a long career in small market morning shows and PR for baseball teams before deciding to position himself as a political commentator. Who has a right to comment? Everyone of voting age has that right, you idiots. It’s part of the inalienable rights we’re guaranteed as Americans.
And, as a lifelong conservative, I find Palin terrifying too. She’s not even close to being qualified, not even half the person or politician Maureen Reagan was. Palin’s acceptance of this candidacy is hurting the cause of womankind more than helping. Give up, soccer mom, you’re making the rest of the country look naive and unread.
I have more respect for Matt Damon now more than ever. I completely agree and I am amazed that some people on here do not see the validity of his statements. Since when do we want a vice-president who is just like us? Doesn’t anyone want a candidate more intelligent and knowledgeable on the issues than ourselves.
BTW, even if Putin isn’t the Russian President he would still be someone Palin would have communicate with and possibly take a stand against. Don’t think just because he is not President he does not have have power. The specifics don’t matter anyways, and Matt Damon has a point.

I don’t get the part about dinasours…does Matt not believe their were dinasours? His tone seemed to indicate that if she believes there were, then she is crazy.

We all believe/know dinosaurs existed many millions of years ago. There’s a story going around that Sarah Palin thinks there were dinosaurs 4000 years ago. That story is not true, but Matt seems to believe it, or I should say Matt wonders if it’s true, but before finding out if it’s true, he posts that she is ‘totally absurd.’
There are plenty of lies on the internet. Some people enjoy making up stories.
From my post, # 700
I think there must be many people like Matt Damon, who don’t know anything or don’t listen, but judge.
Let me rephrase it.
I think it’s wrong for people, like Matt Damon, to give their opinion about, or judge, somebody without knowing anything about that person.
Number one it’s every American’s right to speak their opinion (whether celebrities or not). And I totally agree with Matt. Bottom line is that Palin is severely inexperienced and she’s got a shady past from what I’ve read about her on Wiki. I’ve seen some comments here about Putin and obviously all of the people commenting know nothing about Russia or Putin. Yes, he is Prime Minister, but ask any Russian who had Dmitry Medvedev elected (Do a google search for Sergei Shpilkin). And ask them who really rules Russia. Putin is ex KGB and completely ruthless. I’m sure you all saw how Putin and Sechin robbed Khodorkovsky of billions basically in front of the whole world. If you actually want to truly learn about what is really happening in Russia, I would recommend to check out seansrussiablog.org and also larussophobe.wordpress.com. At “la russophobe” you should click the link at the top with “The Putin Murders,” if you dare. So in light of what I know about Putin, the very little I know about Palin, and the very strained relations we have with Russia, I again completely agree with Matt Damon. McCain’s choice is purely for political purposes and is a disaster.

Matt Damon and other Hollywood celebrities need to keep their personal opinions to themselves.
I have watched the last Matt Damon movie I will see. And that is a shame because I have loved Goodwill Hunting, the Jasoln Born movies, Saving Private Ryan, etc…….. He is a great acgtor.
But he has no right attacking Sarah Palon or anyone else running for office. Who apponted Matt god and perfect.
Good bye Matt.
What I find amazing is that Matt Damon has an opinion and that anyone cares.
Com’on Matt Damon! Why are you really afraid of Palin? Because she’s an intelligent woman? Or could it be your sudden panic and fear that Obama may lose because of this woman? Your fear reveals your ignorance, and your ignorance has revealed your fear. Your clear interest in bashing Palin is proof that she has what it takes to be VP!
It is called freedom of speech. He has every right to talk about the candidates.. just as we all do. He is an American citizen, and his vote counts just as much as yours or mine.
His comment “Oh, I’m just a hockey mom” is extremely condescending to any woman who is a hockey mom, soccer mom, whatever. Is he calling us idiots? I am a college educated soccer mom, and I found that comment offensive. What is his educational background? How many of these moms pay to see his movies? Go back to making movies idiot, and shut your mouth. I know I won’t be watching the next Bourne movie.
Matt Damon aside, to every body out there giving Palin a hard time about her experience, and who she is, my question for you is who the heck is Obama, and what does he bring to the table besides a few speeches written by someone else. Are the critics of Gov. Palin really blind to the fact that Sen. Obama hardly has any accomplishments outside of himself , and are they not concerned about the questionable associations, this guy has had through out his life, and the terrorist organizations that are endorcing him. Matt Damon and other critics, thats scary. Wake up people, lets not be history trying to make it.
And another thing, why did they put the most unattractive picture they can find of Gov. Palin next to Pamala Anderson’s pretty picture. Good Ole media bias never fails.
wow, you crazy republicans….to make those comments above, really shows how scared and turned off you are about Senator Obama actually becoming President of the United States.
Wow, I will pray for you CK!
No matter Obama is good or not, we can NOT vote McCain/Palin ticket. I have known too much about her so I won’t vote her. She’s an evangelical extremist and a nazi for sure. One thing, she prays to God for her own benifits, not for the benefits of majority of others. Another thing, she endorses cencorship and disgustingly discourages different voices. She’s running to destroy this great country and the Constitution. She won’t resolve and is not capable of resolving any serious issue laying in front of us: the bad economy, the housing/mortgage crisis, iraqi war, the losing war to defend women’s choice (there are 2 to 3 supreme court tickets in next four years), rising unemployment rate, deprived social security, health care, underfunded public schools, underfunded governments(especially law enforcement), US’s bad image all around the world, the sour relationship with all of our allies, the conflicts with other countries especially those with nuclear weapons: NK, Russia, some other countries in former USSR, Iran, Pakistan, possibly our neighbor Cuba, India (India can be left out here) and China.

I am really surprised by your comment “There are ignorant people who don’t know that Congress makes or overturns laws, not the president or his veep. ”
The deal is that we have case law (i.e. common law) system here in US. Case law operates by application of precedent and so is also known as precedential law. Because case law is not enacted by a legislature, it is also a type of non-statutory law.
President can appoint supreme court judge(s) in his term. For the next four years, there are at least 2 liberal tickets that are going to retire or die. And Palin has 1/3 chance of becoming P. So you go figure. Roe vs. Wade is going to be overturned if she is in the office. Is it scary?
Orchid:
The real deal behind Georgia and Russia conflict is that under table US is supporting Georgia. Don’t you think w/o US’s support, Georgia dared to provoke Russia?
Though cold war had ended, Russia under Putin is still on rise. The purpose to stimulate this Russia Georgia conflict is the same as before when US was supporting Saddam Hussein. It’s no different with Russia Chechnya war. In it, US provided aids/weapons to Chechnya.
I don’t mind that US has done lots of dirty deals behind the scene if it were for the benefits of American people, for God’s sake. However, openly ignorantly talking about taking military actions in a national TV is completely absurd. She said,”without a blink”, “do whatever it takes”
This Russia Georgia conflit is subtle and complicated. The problem won’t be solved in one day or by one military attack. Not only Russia has nuclear weapons, Russia also has an agreement with China to help each other out. China’s leader is indeed way smarter than Palin. President Hu never ever mentioned his stance during this Russia/Georgia conflict. But under table, I don’t doubt the possibility that he will still help Russia when emergency comes up. So US is not in a good position.
Let’s not compare the number of nuclear weapons on each side: US vs. (Russia + China). Let’s think about other impacts here. China’s the world’s factory. If there is any big nuclear pollution (caused by nuclear war), the whole economy of US will be collapsed. Not only it will hurt all those big companies, like GE, GM, but also the products you buy from Walmart will be tainted by not just lead, but uranium. Think about it. Do you want all of those?
Matt, my exact thoughts on Obama, who is he? When I first saw him I did not know…I still don’t know.
it is apparent that Matt Damon opened up a can of worms with his comments. Redhead wrote, “Sart in on the problems on going within our own country - healthcare issues, unemployment, taxes, welfare, etc. and I know that my vote is going to the only candidates with true experience - McCain/Palin.
Enlighten me, but are those issues from failed republican policies over the past eight years? specifically, healthcare, unemployment, and taxes. and i’m throwing in education. it wouldn’t matter to me if the incumbents were democrats or republicans - i’m just amazed that some of you think failed domestic policies is in the best interest of the country, and should be rewarded with another 4 yrs.
mccain/palin don’t have the kind of experience at this level that you would like to believe.

The more the liberals hate and attack Sarah Palin, the more you realize she’s the best possible candidate.
i’m not a liberal but how do you figure?

you’re honest. i can respect that….
Matt, you really need to think about what you’re saying and not just listen to Keith Oberman and the liberal media.
Although I have watched some of your movies (and they were mediocre at best) I will make sure not to watch any more.
I can’t believe what a bunch of hipocrits most of the Hollywood group is.
PS: Learn how our economic system works before you open your mouth again.
