Matt Damon: Sarah Palin is “Totally Absurd”
Matt Damon just spoke out on Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to The Associated Press. The 37-year-old actor compares her possibility of being President to a ‘really bad Disney movie’. Ouch!
Damon shared, “I think there’s a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that’s a really scary thing… I don’t know anything about her and in eight weeks, I don’t think I’m going to know anything about her. I know that she was a mayor of a really, really small town and she’s the governor for Alaska for less than two years. I just don’t understand. I think the pick was made for political purposes… Do the actuary tables and there’s a one out of three chance, if not more, that [John] McCain doesn’t survive his first term and it’ll be President Palin… It’s like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, ‘oh, I’m just a hockey mom’… and she’s facing down Vladimir Putin (of Russia)… It’s totally absurd… it’s a really terrifying possibility.”

El - I’m thinking that you could go back to the Clinton years. Having lived in Arkansas during all the ‘glorious’ Clinton years (I think I’ll be sick), look at our educational system, where we rate. We have them to thank for a lot of that.
Don’t even get me started there……..
The best movie Matt Damon ever made was his portrayal of a puppet in Team America. He has every right to express himself freely but that doesn’t mean we can’t express ourselves freely as well. Matt should stick to the things he knows best; making bad movies, falsifying script-writing capabilities and impregnating women who are inferior to him (in his mind). Apparently that Harvard education didn’t help him get a clue. He doesn’t represent me or what I think. I feel sorry for his daughters who have to grow up with a chauvinist as a father.
I think that for the most part, everyone can agree that those with such a podium on which to spill their babble, can be very irritating - especially when there is so much at stake. Though I don’t care for him, name calling - against Matt Damon, Pamela Anderson, Barbara Streisand, etc., does no good, brings us down to their level. Easy trap to fall into, though.
If ignorance is bliss, why aren’t more people happy?………….
If Damon had integrity he would stand behind his convictions on “experience required” and tell people not to vote for Obama for those same reasons. But Damon has never proven his integrity.
If Paulin were to become President what would stop her from appointting a VP who has experience - the same thing Obama has done.
The media is so full of themselves CNN will not let you post an intelligent pro McCain/Palin comment. If you point this out they post that comment to make it appear you are some kind of angry republican. I guess they only want free speech when they can talk

EDITORIAL: A debate Obama cannot win
His record simply does not correspond to his rhetoric.
Mr. Obama’s “new kind of politics” - which was based on telling the truth, being a principled politician and treating one’s opponents fairly - collapsed once he secured the nomination in June. He reversed course with dizzying speed on NAFTA, FISA, public financing of campaigns, whether the D.C. gun ban was constitutional, meeting with rogue leaders without preconditions and the unity of Jerusalem. He even qualified his Iraq policy by stating it would be “refined” according to “conditions on the ground.” Most recently, in light of the economic downturn, Mr. Obama stated he might reconsider implementing the tax increases in his economic plan.
Mr. Obama appeared authentic during the Democratic campaign as a liberal champion: In running to the left of Hillary Clinton, he was passionate, fiery and convincing. Yet since his mad dash to the center, he appears uncomfortable: He stammers and stutters in response to questions rather than speaking forthrightly. The polished, Ivy League-educated senator now uses “folksy” expressions. This downhome speaking manner is geared toward attracting white, blue collar voters - and is not in consonance with his impeccable oratory. He is now packaged and artificial.
Instead of being a genteel campaigner, Mr. Obama and his surrogates have spent days attacking Mr. McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, for her inexperience. He has been charged with leveling low blows and sexism. Highlighting Mrs. Palin’s inexperience is a foolish strategy for one whose level of experience is, at best, equivalent to hers.
Mr. Obama has also assaulted Mrs. Palin for not being a true reformer. Yet it is he who has a record of requesting $936 million in earmarks. Mr. Obama’s record reveals that he is part of the Washington problem, rather than its solution.
The Illinois senator no longer represents generational change and the future: He selected a vice president that is mired in the past. Sen. Joseph Biden is a Washington insider whose voting record is symmetrical to that of the nominee: liberal and partisan. Together, they fall far short of the “bipartisanship” that was pledged.
Instead of “The Dream Team” Obama-Clinton ticket many Democrats hoped for, the Obama-Biden ticket appears to be the “The Snooze Team,” they dreaded.
Mr. Obama stated that voters need not be spooked by his thin foreign-policy resume, but should look to his judgment. These statements were cheered throughout the primaries when the Iraq war was going badly. But once the surge succeeded, Mr. Obama has been unable to convince Americans that his judgment is in fact sound.
For weeks, Mr. Obama refused to acknowledge the success of the surge. Now, he acknowledges it at last, but still does not admit that he was initially wrong in his opposition. Clearly, his judgment on foreign affairs is often overcome by prejudices or expediency. Again, he set the terms of the debate and then failed his own test.
Many voters and critics are still asking: Who is Mr. Obama? He has told us who he is through his record and deeds: a liberal politician who will abandon all his principles at the drop of a hat in order to be elected……..
If you live in California and are voting for Obama…you are a ******.
Matt Damon has every right to his opinions. He is an American just like us and as one of those Americans, I am also terrified by the idea we could have a President Palin in our future. You all should be terrified.
AGREE
She’s a nice lady, but I disagree with her political opinions.
and by the way, why shouldn’t actors have their own politcal opinions? We all seem to have them here. Duh

so funny to read all these angry threads. So protective of Palin. She’s just not that smart.
CK……What a stupid thing to say. If you want to know what Obama has done, you can google the information. You are a total fool if you do not know ONE thing that Obama has done. Do you think he got where he is sitting on his a**? If that were the case, we would all be running for President.
You are spot on Matt!
:) Thank you Matt!!!
Actors are American citizens and have a right to their point of view.
Regardless of whether he’s an actor or not. I agree with him. The VP pick is completely ridiculous. A complete mockery. Something is wrong with John McCain people. The guy can’t even go anywhere without someone by his side, first Lie-ber-man, then Lindsay, now Cindy.
Anyone who doesn’t agree with this Matt Damon guy just claims he doesn’t know what he’s talking about or falls on the usual name calling.
Signed…
Moderate Republican who has switched parties since Barack Obama the most balanced candidate to come around in a long long time secured the parties nomination for President of the United States. The Republicans won’t have this Momma to kick around anymore. DONE KAPUT!!!
Obama/Biden ‘08 because Barack has earned my respect.
EL, Hamas endorced Obama back in April, you can google that. I still have trouble with his relationship with Bill Ayers. He had to denounce the endorsement of Lewie Farahkhan. He had to denouce his pastor of 20 years which he said that He could no more distance himself from Wright than he could distance himself from the black community. EL I will say one thing about you, out of every person I’ve went back and forth with, you are the only one that has given some reason other than Obama graduated from Harvard, or He speaks so well, or He,s black. When Obama was going against Clinton, I didn’t agree with him much, though I believed He was a man of conviction. But now Im starting to see he’s no different from the other politicians which he swore he was. Later EL.
Matt is so right and he made every point s right.
For those who knows nothing about foreign policy Putin is still in charge in Russia and far more powerfull than President Medvedev.
We live in a world of great danger, the decline of America is real and now even more real with the financial turnmoil. But having Palin in power is not only a bad Disney movie but a worst case scenario for the world. In 8 weeks we will see if America wants to be a redneck country or not.
I think Matt’s argument has some merit. We are all entitled to our opinions about the canidates and his seems to be worried about Palin, which i understand.
For far too long we have had a president who is very hickish and sometimes stupid. Bush Acts like a little kid almost everytime i see him on TV. I think we all just want a president who exudes a professional and grownup personality, which i think Obama does.
Now I’m not for either canidate, so maybe we should talk to George Clooney about running in the next election.
Matt did have some interesting points.
Matt Damon has hit the nail on the head. He has every right to share his opinion against that palin *****… **** all of you that think otherwise.
Just read these comments, there are so many unsophisticated (read: “stupid”) people out there, who would support someone as totally unqualified as Palin (just because she’s a woman???? or because they don’t want a president who isn’t of northern European descent????) It IS absurd and it IS scary. Anyone who doesn’t agree with what Damon said is, honestly, just plain stupid.
Generalizations are bad. But, if the republican ticket with Palin aboard is elected, it does mean, unequivocally, that the majority of Americans who voted in November 2008 are, quite simply, stupid. That’s not a generalization. That’s a fact.
And what does it say about McCain? I actually sort of liked him. You know, gut response to a man who has done some good, and often represented fair-mindedness and common sense (never mind his “heroism” which I think is a load of crap anyway).
But how do you account for his decision. Clearly it is brazen pandering. Brushing aside any pretense of good judgment for purely political purposes. That right there is an indelible stain on McCain’s character, that he would stoop to something so bizarre.
In a democracy, people really do get the government they deserve.
Nh, your opinion is your right. Your characterization of Gov. Palin is your right as well, though unecessary and unmerrited. To the rest of the Palin opponents, your argument is so overwhelmingly moot when you try and point out any lack of experience because once again the guy on the top of the other ticket is not experienced at all. I can understand some people not agreeing with Mrs. Palin’s politics, or Her world view, but the great disdain people are having towards this woman is mind boggling. I mean I dont agree with hardly anything Obama says and His integrity is questionable to me,but I don’t hate the guy.

my question is - what does, by your words, Hamas supporting Sen. Obama have to do with the upcoming election?” they are a middle east organization. do they have members in congress? on the illinois state legistature? does Sen. Obama have daily dialogue with these people? what is your point here?
fact of the matter is that neither Sen. Obama or Sen. McCain can control who supports them any more than they can control what i wear to work. that is also to your reference about Sen. Obama having to denounce and separate himself from Pastor Wright and Louis Farahkhan. so what? people have ideological differences and he respectfully made a decision.
i find it interesting that you said nothing about Sen. McCain’s association with lobbyists. by the way, he previously spoke out against lobbyists, speaks about being an agent for change, but then there is one lobbyist after another on his campaign staff.
Bjizzle, i’m saying these things and i’m not even a democrat. it strikes me that in reading your comments and going back and forth, that you want to offer me a piece of candy in a wrapper, tell me it’s good and expect me to eat it with the wrapper still on. you have to come better than that.
Bjizzle, “snowed” is the word I think I’ll use. Politics in and of itself is a snowjob with potential. I hate to sound so jaded except truth be told, it’s just a matter of how much you’re willing to risk based on how much of who’s snowjob you embrace. From a personal prospective, whether male or female, black, white or opaque, I’ll embrace the snowjob that best outlines a format of escape from what has lead to today’s crisis. 8 years of playing with our lives and today the bottom falls out! That was 8 years in the making! All while the mucketie-mucks profit from their shennanigans only to find themselves in the proverbial hotseat this morning. The chickens have come home to roost. To vote for 4 more years of the past 8? I don’t think so. An Obama/Biden outline brings a refreshing breeze of change from the usual we’ve experienced for years. But if you believe the so-called change McCain/Palin lament with a lack of outline, that’s a snowjob without even a kiss.
Matt Damon is just one more of these Hollywood ******** who just cant seem to grasp the fact that nobody cares what they think about politics, and that they validate accusations of elitism when sounding off. You dont see Sarah Palin giving Matt Damon advice on how to improve his lousy movies, do you ?
And yes - I do mean lousy, particularly in the case of Damon. Why is Damon always playing the “genius” ?
“Clockers”, yeah - he’s the genius poker player, while a great actor like Edward Norton has to play second fiddle to this windbag, as the buffoon who merely sets up the games.
Oh yeah, and how about that stupid, stupid movie, “Good Will Hunting” ? That movie makes me sick. Yeah, the janitor who is the genius among all the college snobs. How original, (yawn). Oh, oooh, oh, I have a great idea for this movie - we will have a scene where I, Matt Damon, solves the big mathematical equasion that none of the snobs can solve, and doesnt seek any recognition for it, because I am just so humble and modest…but in actuality, Im the genius ! Oh, Oh, I know - My character will be a deeply troubled genius….thats never been done before ! Well have another scene where I get snubbed by all the snobs at college because Im just a janiitor, meanwhile - in secret, Im really a genius ! Oh man, this is just fantastic - all these original ideas I have ! Oh, Oh, and another idea - we can make a movie about a college student who dusts off an old script about a janitor-genius, and passes it off to his buddy - a buddy who has connections in the industry, who can pull the strings to get his movie made. Then, he and his gay lover Ben Affleck rise to stardom as a result. I am just so great, that the only thing I worry about is where the limit to my genius will be !
And how about “The Rainmaker” ? Yeah, he’s the genius again, this time as a lawyer, who takes on a mega-big insurance company.
Yokay fudge. Too bad it was a great book - destroyed by Matt Damon’s vision for the character.
And Saving Private Ryan ? Matt Damon, a hardened WWII infantry soldier, who passes up the chance to go home because he is committed to his fellow men ? Bullsh*t. Not with Matt Damon as that guy, anyway.
Just writing this reminds me of how much I despise this buffoon. Hey matt - You are an effing buffoon, shut your pie hole and keep trying to make a good movie.
Oh but wait - The Departed. I loved watching you get smacked around at the end by Leonardo DiCaprio. Thats the only part of the movie where you appear, that’s tolerable.
You big headed moron. Shut your effing trap and study your lines.
Why do celebrities insist on ramming their political views down our throats? Do they truly think they know what is best for the country because they entertain the public on TV or in the movies. There are some serious God complexes for a bunch of high school dropouts.
Totally agree with #603
