PT, I just started looking at House during this marathon, and although I find it entertaining now during this period when there really isn’t anything on worth watching , I don’t think I will keep up with it once my shows return. Also, for me, other than Hugh Laurie, I think the show could get very boring fast.

And why the hell do all their patients have seizures? LOL.

Hugh Laurie IS the show. I think that’s why he gets so stressed out and he’s been battling some depression because he’s here in the US by himself and his family is back in England. (He’s faking the accent - he’s British.) The success of the show rides on his ability to pull off House’s irreverance without making the character completely unlikeable. The producers realize he’s what makes the show work and they just gave him a hefty raise, which he didn’t even ask for, to reward him for making the show so successful. You don’t see THAT a lot in HW. Usually actors have to do like Lost & Grey’s where they threaten to hold out for more money.

The shows they’ve been doing on USA have mostly been from seasons 1 & 2, in no particular order on the weekends, but during the week they’re running sequentially. As the show went on the other characters do get more developed, but again, it’s all in relation to House. Cameron gets over her crush, Foreman realizes he’s BECOMING House and doesn’t like himself, Chase stops sucking up so much, Cuddy actually gets the upper hand occasionally…and Wilson can actually tell House “No” and mean it. House is less able to manipulate the other characters and out of that they all get a little more interesting and the 3 fellows all quit.

In the 4th season the 3 fellows are only sparesly used and House has a whole slew of fellow candidates to play off. At that point character development is pretty much retarded because of the writer’s strike, but supposedly they’re going to shake things up a bit this year when they bring Chase, Cameron and Foreman back full-time. We’ll see.

Oh yeah - the seizures thing…my theory is that it’s for dramatic affect. Like I said, these are mostly season 1 & 2 shows and they were feeling their way trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. The seizures scenes decreased in later years. The shows only been on 4 years, so I was surprised to see it in syndication already. However USA Network is owned by the company that produces the show - NBC Universal…but the show airs on FOX. I’m still trying to figure out why that is. NBC doesn’t have many good shows right now, so why would they produce a Grade A, Emmy & Golden Globe award winning drama for another network? That makes no sense to me.

Reading the . message boards for the Joel and Ethan Coen’s “Gambit,” a heist movie remake about two criminals out to steal a priceless antiquity, is just about the funniest thing imaginable, since every other poster is convinced the movie is about the “X-Men” character Remy LeBeau. It’s actually so egregiously wrong that it almost has to be parody right?

But how’s this for a laugh: An honest to goodness Marvel spin-off might actually one day make it to the big-screen before the Coen Brother’s film, given that, well, nobody’s actually MAKING “Gambit,” supposedly attached star Colin Firth revealed.

“No! It’s a complete lie. It’s been on . and just sitting there,” Firth said of his rumored involvement. “The Coen brothers have written an absolutely brilliant script.”

For whatever reason, and despite the fact that the Coen Brothers are about as hot as possible right now with a recent Best Picture winner under their belt, nobody seems to be stepping up to the plate to film the movie, Firth sighed – probably because the Coens themselves don’t want to direct it.

“[‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ director] PJ Hogan came on and Ben Kingsley was attached to it. Then it was Sandra Bullock attached and then Jennifer Aniston,” Firth recounted. “They won’t direct it. It had a producer attached to it and no director.”

The title of this thread is idiotic title. Talk about moronic and shallow. What a stupid and empty platitude- right up there with “they rock.” In what way are Pitt and Jolie actually POWERFUL? Are they powerful because they can spend millions of dollars on homes, travel, clothes, media coverage and security? They also look miserable in this photo. They look like they are leaving a graveside funeral service. What was Brad burying- his credibility?

They aren’t the most humanitarian couple either. The donation for the Ethiopia clinic for tuberculosis and AIDS (which Zahara will run) story is up again. Their PR fax is busy these days.

All of the foundation data is public. From the 2006 Form 990 for the Jolie Pitt Foundation, Pitt & Jolie each donated @ $4.2 million to their foundation, of which @ $2.4 million was distributed in 2006. The 2007 filing is not yet available. The Make it Right Foundation was established in 2007 and there is no record of contributions from Jolie-Pitt –i.e. no Form 990 on file for 2007; perhaps we’ll see it later this year but it is late already. Of note is that they are asking for capital contributions and make note of Brad Pitt’s interest in making it right–how many years after the fact? Didn’t someone allege that the MIR housing was empty and the homes had been sold to Jolie? Sounds more like a real estate investment than a charitable contribution. The Global Action for Children website said it was in 2003, the public documentation shows 2006 and it’s ruling year as 2007. There is no Form 990 for the charity–so no record on file of charitable contributions to it. If funds were donated & distributed, they would show on the 2007 Form 990. Perhaps backlog at the IRS, don’t know definitively, but this 2008….late in the year…..This latest AIDS donation can be tracked in 2009 for 2008. The same for the $14 million they received this year. They may very well be donating in full to their foundation, what is important is how much of this they distribute in a given year or over time.

The majority of Brangelina hype is “planted” in the media to make them seem more “important” than they are, I will never take claims like this seriously AGAIN. Bought and paid for, folks; not a SCRAP of truth behind it!

The investment companies have brought this mess on themselves. What is scary is that it is going to have a tremendously negative effect on the entire economy, not just the investment companies.

Don’t waste time feeling sorry for the top executives. They will walk away with multi-million dollar severance packages and retire in comfort. The ones who will get hurt are the investors and the little people working at the companies who will be out on the street looking for jobs where there aren’t any.

Exactly, Jill. Management always walks away from these bankruptcies in good financial shape. It’s everybody else that gets screwed - employees and investors.

What’s really going to screw things up is if AIG’s restructuring plan goes belly up, too. THAT would be extremely ugly.

Why would you assume they are late. It is not late.

Just for the record - foundation tax filings are not necessarily due when personal tax filings are due. I believe that they are due - or the foundation can opt to have them due - based on their fiscal year dates. If their fiscal year begins Oct 1 then they can opt to use that as a basis for their due date. I am unsure if the due date is the date of the FY or so many omnths after the close of their FY. Foundations and businesses are continually working on extension filing dates. The work of filing taxes is not a simple matter.

The IRS takes approx 4 to 6 months after filing to make the public filings of these foundations available to the public.

Their donations may also be personal (tax deductions), the foundation may be doing other things rather than donating the money to causes. You don’t know. I really don’t think the two of them are that materialistic and keeping the money they’ve made from People etc. They may also have a long term goal and are saving the money to donate towards that. They have given money in smaller amounts to all sorts of endeavors and I believe smaller amounts don’t appear on foundation filings. However, you seem to know more than the rest of us.

Why criticize? They certainly are giving a lot more whether you can uncover the tax returns or not than most hollywood types. How much do you give each year? 10 percent? 20 percent? 30 percent? or more of your income??? And if so, where do you give it? Do you have receipts for everything? Is everything on your tax return? Can we find your donations by looking at foundation tax returns?

This really is no surprise to me at all. These two have earned that power over the years.
