TRL Canceled — For Real This Time!
Total Request Live, better known as TRL, has been officially canceled after ten years. (This was a rumor back in Feburary, but it’s a done deal now.)
TRL executive producer Dave Sirulnick said that show, which is taped in Times Square, will take its final bow in a two-hour special on a Saturday afternoon in November. He added that show isn’t “ending for good” but needs a “break.”
Originally hosted by Carson Daly, the music video countdown show premiered music videos and helped to launch the careers of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, ‘NSync and other teen pop acts.
Where will artists premiere their music videos now? Online? FNMTV?

i cant believe it took this long to cancel it. it stopped being good five maybe six years ago and that wa when MTV was slightly still showing music videos. now they can fill another time slot with the lateest re-rerun of the Hills (hooray) another fine piece of trainwrecked crap.

about time! its kind of hard to have a trl when there are no videos to show :-/ mtv sucks and is nothing what it was meant to be. all they show during that show is a bunch of lil kids screaming. the vma’s was the worst that i ever viewed. what happened to the days of “real” music? i can still remember when nirvana played on stage live. wtf how do you go from that to what it is now? mtv is reality tv..well scripted reality tv. i feel sorry for the youth having to view that garbage.

good it was much better with crason, I stopped watching it a lot after he left. When they actually played the whole music videos when TRL first came on. I think i’ll stick with FNMTV. Love it.
well..to be honest, TRL hasnt been the same since Carson Daly left…and does MTV notice that they have to change their name, since, well…theres nothing really music about it anymore..

I have no idea why they still call themselves music television when it’s all “reality” shows and dating show sh*t.
They hardly ever play videos and even TRL usually just played pieces of them.
They still hold the video music awards which they should stop as well, seeing it’s obvious MTV couldn’t care less about videos.. they’re never on.

MTV needs to relaunch itself as something other then MTV. It’s been neglecting music for a long time now and only pays attention to videos when it wants to throw an award show and get lots of celebs there for press and advertising cash.
Wow. I knew it had changed over the years, and I didn’t really watch TRL much anymore, but to have it gone for good is a sad day.

i know a lot of people watch mtv, as well as trl .. so this network can definitely influence the music we listen to. what is everyone going to resort to now? my guess is the internet.
than again, mtv is no longer going by it’s name “music tv”, with all this reality junk they’ve decided to air which sucks. where is the music? false advertising much.
MTV is all reality now. I remember what it was like back in the day; when the channel consisted of actual music video’s 24/7. Music is dead, and that is one of the main reasons this show when down the tubes. Let’s just start calling it RTV, because it’s nothing but Reality TV.

This makes me sad because this show was a big part of my teenage years. I rememeber rushing home to watch it right after school and loving it. When I went to NYC in 1999 I got to stand outside the studio… 98 degrees was on that day and their video for “I Do (Cherish You) was their single at the time… lots of teenage girls dressed as brides lol. Hard for me to believe that was almost 10 years ago… But the previous posters are right, TRL hasn’t been the same since Carson Daly left and the network as a whole has pretty much abandoned music videos. Sad to see what MTV has become in the last 10 years alone. The VMAs and TRL were actually important, worth watching and valuable. And don’t even get me started on the reality tv. 10 years ago the shows were The Real World (when it was a legit social experiment and not about how many roomies could hook up with each other) and Road Rules. Both much better than the crap they have on now. They need to go back to their past if the network wants to survive. It’s a big joke now and has been for several years. Sad!

with all the garbage on mtv now-a-days why isn’t mtv put into the same category as hbo and cinemax? I grew up on mtv/vh1 and years later when I flip through and see the garbage this channel has on it’s enough to make you sick. This show is the reason I stopped watching MTV ten years ago. Thank you MTV, even though your “taking a break” I still won’t watch you. You suck. thank you for making me realize how much of a mindless television station you were ten years ago and how I’m sure nothing has changed since.
