Ben Barnes is Dorian Gray
Ben Barnes films some rainy scenes on the set of his latest film, Dorian Gray, in Central London on Monday.
The 27-year-old actor plays Oscar Wilde’s title character, a corrupt young man who somehow keeps his youthful beauty eternally, but a special painting gradually reveals his inner ugliness to all.
Dorian Gray, which also stars Colin Firth, Rebbeca Hall and Emilia Fox, will be released in the fall of 2009 in Britain.

I haven’t seen any of Ben’s films yet…but, I don’t see Dorian Gray as a brunette…I always thought they’d used a blonde…very unlike the typical stereotype of ‘blonde’ = Good ‘brunette’=Bad thing…I can’t wait to see it…I hope they keep the sensualness in it as I’ve seen an older version of Dorian Gray a long while ago…It was such a shock for it’s time. Hopefully, they won’t have his character be obviously jaded like they make most of actors on television now. Even though this is film…it could seem bigger on the screen.
DORIAN GRAY HAD BLONDE HAIR AND BLUE EYES, producing idiots! Jude Law (who, ironically, played Lord Douglas in a film on Wilde) would have been the perfect choice IF he hadn’t grown old. Chase Crawford has the looks but not the talent. They should have researched further.
They did Oscar the Great quite wrong.
thank you Jared! i love Ben Barnes ,he looks so gourgeous in this pictures and so wet!!!
can’t wait for the movie
Cute guy. And a good story, although it has been put on film before, but that doesn’t matter. I like it a lot.
he doesn’t have the blond hair and piercing blue eyes like the character in the book (ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS BY THE WAY)… but I think he has the appropriate intensity and will do a good job.
ben please marry me <3
OMG! These are incredible pics! I so cannot wait for this movie! Ben is absolutely the right choice for this!!!!!
Omg he’s to die for.
ben looks great
He looks fabulous. I like it when films give an old theme (and amazing book) a new twist. I love the dark look. Ben has the intensity. He’s gorgeous AND he can act. Loads of talent here. Can’t wait to see this film.
DORIAN BLONDE ?? NAY I always see him brunette like my cover book…Blondes guys are handsome but bored.Brunette guys are hot and naughty. Ben as Dorian rocks!!!
#21 - did you meet him ? Lucky girl, I meet a lot jerk guys but no one sooo hot like ben. LOL
Omg he’s got a smile to die for!! x3 THANKS JUST JARED!!!
Guys, please stop complaining. I’m a Wilde aficionado and though it’s a shame they didn’t have Ben Barnes dye his hair and put in some blue contacts to fit the book, it really does not matter. The original film with Angela Landsbury and George Sanders made in 1945 starred Hurd Hattfield in the title role, who had black hair and eyes– darker than Ben (especially in black and white but in color too). The movie is a classic and the only great fault with it was how it changed the plot a bit– but the coloring of the lead actor was certainly no fault. That doesn’t matter. Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t match the Harry Potter of the book in hair or eye coloring and trust me, if it that were really a problem, I doubt the studio would let him star in all seven movies in their multi-billion dollar franchise (and don’t tell me about studios not understanding because it doesn’t work in this case– those movie kick ass). I doubt you all have noticed much on Radcliffe’s account. Anyways, back to Ben Barnes. My guess is in his case the coloring seemed to visually suit a movie built around a novel with such heavily dark, gothic themes. And it’s not like it’s a film based on an Anne Rice novel– those books celebrates sinister beauty while Dorian Gray does just the opposite. While I think Arian coloring might accentuate the contrast between the character’s outward appearance and the ugliness of his soul, I don’t think it matters much. As far as I’m concerned, Barnes fits the part pretty damn well— young, exquisite features, British, and pulls off the impulsive-act pretty damn well if you’ve seen Caspian (It’s pretty sad about how much he struggled with that accent though. It threw the whole thing off). He’s also fairly new so he’ll probably be even more convincing playing the fresh-faced naive kid Dorian is at the beginning, which will probably make the whole descent into evil thing pretty interesting. I think it’s sad that a novel with such layered emotional, philosophical, and moral themes like Dorian Gray is being made into a movie and all anyone can do is ***** about the lead actor’s hair.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. People more concerned with the accurateness of a person’s look instead of focusing on the ability of the actor to accurately portray a story.
Still want to know if dorian gray is coming to the U.S. and Ben is a good actor. I just want to see this movie.
he’s just perfect, there are no words to describe him…I’ll marry him..

I agree with you. I think Ben is a great choice for this movie .He is gorgeous, frigging hot and dark. I cannot wait for this new Dorian Gray s version !!
Ben caught my eye in Prince Caspian, which I thought was OK for a Disney movie. Unless Bigga Than Ben turns up on Foxtel’s world movie chanel, we won’t see that in Australian cinemas, but I hope they release Easy Virtue and Dorian Gray sometime in 2009 here.
He has done four completely different movies in the past few years, so it would be good to see him as someone other than Caspian.
He appears to be a bright young man with his head screwed on right. Good luck to you Ben.
I agree Stuart Townsend was a fabulous Dorian Gray..
I’m curious to see how Ben Barnes does..
Hope the movie turns out great, Dorian Gray is a fascinating character.
woww Ben is more handsome and hotter than Robert Pattinson. But can he act ?? Good luck , baby . I advice to stay in England.
I used to be a RPatzz fan but since he came to States he becomes a jerk and usual night club guest. He disappointed me.
creo que hay quien este mejor para este papel hay actores jovenes que pueden dar mejor presencia para ewl papel y mas guapos ya que la novela de wilde describe a un ser verdaderamente hermoso y hay mejores actores y mas galanes y de mejor rostro
