Brad Pitt Fights For Gay Marriage
Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to fight California’s Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.
“Because no one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another, and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” the 44-year-old actor said in a statement.
Political strategist Chad Griffin, who is coordinating efforts in the entertainment industry to defeat the measure, added, “It is our hope that others in the entertainment industry will step up and match Brad Pitt’s heroic commitment to quality and defeating Prop. 8. This isn’t a special interest issue - this measure affects every business and every family. With California’s budget and the national economy in chaos, the last thing we need is an unnecessary measure that threatens health benefits and protections for children.”

Thanks for the new thread. It is always good to fight against discrimination and equal rights for everyone. Whether you agree with or against gay rights, immigration reforms, or a host of other issues, it is important for every voice to be heard especially during these crucial election and economic times(no political debate necessary, just an observation). Peace to all
Good for you Brad, does this mean he’s trying to get it passed so him and Angelina can get married???? OMG, I’m so happy!!!!! You just know the haters would bring that up if they got married and didn’t fight to legalize gay marriage.
For a divorcee he sure cares a lot about marriage.
How do you know that he didn’t fight for his own marriage? They have tried to work it out. It just wasn’t working any more.. So they parted. They both look happier now.
Thanks for the update Jared!
And way to rock Brad!
..` god-bless`him.
He wasn’t happy with his life with Jennifer, it happends. Why be depressed and miserable just to please others? I’m sure you wouldn’t.
You can marry anybody you want as long as they’re 13 years or older… hehehe…
He’s right, as long as the union is not going to harm anyone then anybody should be allowed to get married…
I rather two gay men get married then an evil racist woman with an evil racist man…. together they will just kill the world…

Pitt takes a stand against Prop 8
Actor donates $100,000 to campaign
By TED JOHNSON
Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to the campaign to defeat Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.
Pitt’s contribution comes as fund-raising to defeat the measure lags behind that of supporters, even as polls suggest that the proposition will have a tough time of passage.
“Because no one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another, and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” Pitt said in a statement.
Pitt’s contribution, to the group Californians Against Eliminating Basic Rights, is one of the largest individual entertainment industry donations to the No on Prop. 8 campaign coming from the entertainment industry. Others who have chipped in so far include David Geffen, who has donated $50,000, and Bryan Lourd, who contributed $5,000.
In October, Ron Burkle plans to host a major event for the No on 8 campaign at his Greenacres estate in Beverly Hills.
But opponents are being outraised by supporters. According to IN Los Angeles magazine, which covers the gay community, proponents of Proposition 8 have raised $16 million and opponents have raised $11 million. Backers of the proposition raised $750,000 on Sept. 10 alone.
“It is our hope that others in the entertainment industry will step up and match Brad Pitt’s heroic commitment to quality and defeating Prop. 8,” said political strategist Chad Griffin, who is working to defeat the measure.
Love you, Brad.
Well said Brad, no more discrimination. We must accept everybody, because we are not God.
# 4 Agu @ 09/17/2008 at 6:42 pm Well Brad, I suppose you don’t know how miserable is the life of gay people and that you have no idea all the discrimination they have between them. I do know it. Gay marriage is not that “happy ever after” as evertobody think.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
They would have no discrimination if people like you did not discriminate!
Marriage is a legal institution that protects partners in a legal union and enforces certain rights.
The right to self-determination.
The right to survivors benefits if one should die.
The right to name their spouse as medical proxy in the event of incapacitation,
the right to have a partner covered by health insurance,
and the right to inheirit assets.
All of these examples have been successfully challenged in courts by the biological family of a gay person, leaving the chosen life partner out in the cold.
No, there is no guarantee of a “happy marriage” whether you are gay, or straight.
This is not a legislation to mandate happy marriage, this is a legislation to give gay unions the same legal standing as straight unions.
how lovely to see a high profile person stand behind his beliefs and put his money behind those causes.

Errr… you realize that you’re rocking the name of someone who tried to up her cache by discussing her lesbian relationship with a Russian stripper.
Will Ellen now stop supporting his NOLA project?
Brad you look brutal…..
# 15 pitt @ 09/17/2008 at 6:48 pm He should have fought for his own marriage. ” because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another” - What a lie - he doesn’t believe this or he would still be married.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The continued marriage of two people who are unhappy can be the most miserable of unions.
JA sid that BRad was not “there for her” so apparently she wasn’t happy.
He obviously wasn’t happy. should they have stayed together and perpetuated the misery by bringing a child into a loveless union?
People grow and they change and sometimes they grow apart whether neither one of them can be what the other person wants.
AMEN BRAD
