OlderBrad Pitt Fights For Gay Marriage
Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to fight California’s Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.
“Because no one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another, and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” the 44-year-old actor said in a statement.
Political strategist Chad Griffin, who is coordinating efforts in the entertainment industry to defeat the measure, added, “It is our hope that others in the entertainment industry will step up and match Brad Pitt’s heroic commitment to quality and defeating Prop. 8. This isn’t a special interest issue - this measure affects every business and every family. With California’s budget and the national economy in chaos, the last thing we need is an unnecessary measure that threatens health benefits and protections for children.”

OFF TOPIC:
I was up till quite late last night listening to the Senate Banking Committee GRILL paulson, cox, bernanke and others.
First, I want to say how wonderful it is for me to watch the American political system in action. It seemed to me, having watched how the Asian Financial Crisis was handled here back in 1997 (lots of back room deals and bail outs of well connected companies), that the way America is handling this credit crisis is so much more transparent.
There is an opportunity for every American, every voter to watch and learn and through the internet and through their congressman, senator or blog, give his opinion.
I’m sure that for all the faults of the Paulson-Bernanke bail out plan, whatever money is spent on this US bail out is going to be better spent then the money spent in Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. etc.
Now my three cents worth:
(1) On the bail out package, I still think its inevitable but I also think the Senate banking committee raised some very good points. Agree that no bank should come for a bailout without having to pay a price and I DON’T agree with Paulson and Bernanke’s plan right now which seems to be a FREE ride.
(2) As for what price to pay these toxic assets - I’m not convinced of the P & B plan to buy these assets at near hold to maturity prices - assuming that all will be well. If the banks want a bail out and clean out their balance sheets NOW, they should take a CREW cut. In the 2 to 3 years after the crew cut, that means PAIN for everyone because when banks have a weaker balance sheet, they won’t lend as much, they can’t do as much business and so for legitimate business, it is harder to fund cash flow etc. for main street.
But in the long term, it is better for the FINANCIAL markets and also the american economy.
(3) Also, Americans should re think 4 trillion dollar tax cuts as a mantra for economic growth. In the next few years, if the American public debt keeps growing as is likely, then I believe the debt alone will cause economic damage in a systemic way. It’s a bit like a husband and wife debts. Sure perhaps the wife can increase the family income by taking on some part time work, but if the husband keeps taking on new debt, then sooner or later, the family finances are going to come a cropper because they are all one family.
If indeed the 700b $$ is used, then every man, woman and child in America carries a public debt burden of 37,000. Can you imagine that?? For a family of 4, they are carrying a national debt burden of approximately US$150,000. Add interest of 4% and its going to hurt.
And this is merely the PUBLIC debt burden on the individual. Add to that the individual’s own debts. The average credit card debt for an American is $8,000. Add to that housing loans, student loans and car loan and you get the better picture of what an average American family carries in debt.
The median income of an American in the US for 2007 was approximately $51,000.

Why on earth would you wish Porgie on Angie? I’m sick of that jerkwad riding on the Brad’s coattails as it is so I sure as hell don’t want Angie to have to prop up his career, too. If I won’t pay money to see a Brad movie with Porgie in it then I’m DEFINITELY not going to pay to see an Angie movie with Porgie in it! I used Google to translate it. It says they’re staying in a castle on the Wannsee river, have rented it for 3 months and that Angie arrived today at 15:48pm - roughtly 3:48pm their time - with all 6 kids, 2 nannies and 14 security men. The security people are to oversee the 12,000 sq meter grounds of the castle, where they have a bunch of land, several nearby houses (presumably for staff) and a helipad.
It also says that Brad & Angie love Berlin and previously stayed there in a hotel there for 3 months. The only problem with that is…IT NEVER HAPPENED! As far as I can remember this is the first time they’ve stayed long-term in Berlin! LOL. They spent a few days there before heading to Paris when Angie was preggers with Shiloh and they’ve been back for a day or two at a time, but not for 3 whole months!
Hey, it’s Bild…they’re a tabloid. At the bottom of this article is a link for another story, credited to a UK tab - “Now Magazine” - that says Angie has been collapsing because she’s stressing out with all the kids and Brad keeps going off to film festivals….in other words…same old tabloid crap we’ve been getting over on this side of the pond…
