Josh Groban Sings Emmys Medley

Josh Groban Sings Emmys Medley

Josh Groban sings a medley of classic TV tunes from the past 40 years at the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards held at Nokia Theatre on Sunday (September 21) in Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old international classical-pop singer performed tunes from The Golden Girls, Cops, The Jeffersons and even South Park.

“Nothing I’m singing I’ve ever sung before, except for South Park with friends,” Josh said before his crazy performance. “There’s a lot of stuff that allows me to just be me, then there’s a lot of stuff that allows me to let my multiple personalities to go play for a bit.”

Watch the video below–it was one of the few highlights from the night!

# 3

hee hee
humiliating….

# 4

hahaha.
this was the best part of the whole emmys.

# 5

Super embarrassed for him. Random transitions between theme songs…and it was totally not his style. Bad booking job….for reals. What the hell happened tonight?? THe red carpet interviews were complete ****, the hosts SUCKED! The musical guest was horrible. IF it wasn’t for Kathy Griffin and Ricky Gervais…..I would loose all hope in humanity.

i think he’s 27 — NOT 37

I thought it was awesome, and it showed how great of an artist he is. He can do anything!!!!!

# 8

Hahaha, I loved it - it as hilarious! Sure, its out of his comfort zone, but I don’t think that would have been in anyone’s comfort zone.

Twifanatic Amanda @ 09/22/2008 at 12:57 am

that was so awesome

I dont think anyone could have done it like him! Not anyone. I cant think of anyone else who has the singing ability, or the voice changing ability, and the comedic abilities required for this but him. Great Job Josh! People dont realize that he isnt as serious as his songs are. Its about time people got used to it! WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE FROM SNL ALREADY!!!!! Get him on!!

What a great medley! I hadn’t heard some of these in a long time. Brings back memories.

Josh saved what was otherwise a boring night. It was a fun piece and he certainly had some fun with it…

LOVED Josh Groban. How talented was that medley! I was amazed at what his voice and sense of humor could do. Loved it. Ed McMahon was great too!

he freakin suked. i was cringing.

AngieFOJG @ 09/22/2008 at 1:16 am

This was sooooo his style. Classical or South Park, Josh nails it everytime. Loved the cheesy lounge singer style for the Love Boat theme…Groban is one funny dude.

that was sick!!!!!!!!! just goes to show he transcends all types of music

Personally, I thought it sucked.

Josh was awesome, is awesome and always will be awesome.

There’s no one like him.

Outside friends and family, he’s my favourite person.

iprincessamanda @ 09/22/2008 at 2:20 am

I loved it!! The best part of the whole night!!! I’m glad we get to see this on justjared and not just nothing dumb story about no talent celb

i LOVE JOSH GROBAN! AND I THOUGHT IT WAS HILARIOUS! SO PROPS TO HIM!

Some of you are dead inside. @ 09/22/2008 at 2:24 am

Josh Groban was hilariously awesome. The true embarrassment to the Emmy’s is the fact that Lauren Conrad was there.

gemma luikens @ 09/22/2008 at 4:00 am

what a brutal cringe inducing performance, just awful. Please David Foster, stay out of the music business and spare us….

Best part of the whole show! He’s awesome

The truth @ 09/22/2008 at 7:47 am

That sucked the big one. His voice was completely wrong for this medley. Cringeworthy indeed–I stopped listening after the 3rd or 4th song.

I thought he was terrific!

M*A*S*H had a theme song? Who knew! That beyond horrific.

He was just awesome, that was by far the best part of the night.
And I never noticed it before but he is hoooooooooooot :thud:

josh Rocks @ 09/22/2008 at 9:02 am

Josh rocked it! Not his fault they are hoaky them songs. Best part of the Emmys. Well, besides, Mad Men winning.

When you consider that Josh sings in a whole different genre, this was pretty cool.

The point of this was to be silly, take on the voice, personality of the character from each song/show. It was suppose to be a melody of songs, switching from one to another.

Josh is funny beyond anything. One day having tea with the Queen, singing for the Pope, then he kills on Kimmel, and shows like this.

Good for Josh, and stepping out of the box, you gave us a funny moment.

That was an amazing performace! He’s not only a talented singer, but a great entertainer as well. The only song I kind of cringed at was the prince of bel air theme…that one just didn’t work.

Here’s a list of all the television shows Josh made reference to during his medley performance at the 2008 Emmy’s:

i think he was amazing to go up there and remember all those songs at the right moment …….he sounded wonderful…….best part of the whole show………….i will play it over and over on youtube………right on josh…..

grobanluvva @ 09/22/2008 at 9:41 am

Josh Groban was amazing! not only did he show he can sing.but that he can also act.Josh Groban’s performance was impressive.he was the perfect man for the job! I have loved Josh for over 6 years now.and just when i think he cant get any better or funnier he does.Josh was the high light of the emmy’s for sure! bravo Josh!bravo!

Brilliant, just brilliant!!

I thought he did a great job. It DOES take talent to be able to change your voice from style to style. like that.

When he did South Park I laughed my butt off xD

haha that was great!
People shouldn’t say he was horrible…i bet none of you would have the balls to to do that. Plus i’m sure none of you can do that.

south park, cops, and fresh prince were awsome.

the emmy’s were boring…except for his preformance.

oh man… that was pretty funny - and at his expense.

i actually enjoyed it though.

Josh got it right when he said before his performance. “There’s a lot of stuff that allows me to just be me, then there’s a lot of stuff that allows me to let my multiple personalities to go play for a bit.” That’s why he’s loved so much - he thinks and acts outside his box! He’s a very hard act to follow - so multi-talented and diverse. He keeps breaking new ground. Keep up the good work, we love you for it Josh! Forget the nominees! Josh Groban was absolutely brilliant!!! He should get a nomination next year for this spectacular performance. It was hilariously funny, creatively put together and executed with skill and genius ability. The range and diversity of Josh’s voice combined with his dorky sense of fun and humour made this the best part of the entire show.

groban fan @ 09/22/2008 at 2:18 pm

I have seen Josh Groban in concert about five times, and think he is an amazing talent. Last night’s performance showed us another side of him, and I, along with thousands upon thousands of “Grobanites” thought he was freaking brilliant! Way to go, Josh!!!!!

Talk about talent… No one else can go from doing that fantastic “medley” to singing lyrics in Italian, French, and Spanish. He has the voice of an angel, and a fantastic personality. I met him at a meet and greet last July in NYC, and I gotta tell you… He is a heck of a nice guy!

carrienae @ 09/22/2008 at 2:38 pm

I’m glad he doesn’t take things so seriously. I think he’s funny and cute.

I really liked his performance ;D

samfromitaly @ 09/22/2008 at 4:01 pm

he is THE BEST

MRS. JOSEPH ADAM JONAS @ 09/22/2008 at 6:47 pm

that was the most awesome thing i had ever seen a singer sing/do

josh groban is my new hero.. lovers him!!

Josh Groban was one of the only class acts on the Emmy’s. To those that criticize him; That was an extremely difficult medley to pull off. I guarantee you that no one could have done it better. Kudos to Josh for stepping out of his comfort zone. Josh Groban has the most pure, perfect, and passionate voice I have ever heard. I dare say he is better than Andrea Bocelli, whom I love. He is adorable, intelligent, witty, and talented. I have seen him in concert and he was magnificent. Not only is he talented, but he is also a wonderful human being.

that was SO GOOD!

I agree best part of the whole emmys! :)

I see a lack of humour here… if you people didn’t at least smiled through the performance he made than i don’t know what’s funny anymore…
i liked his acting, he was like a child :D
he was funny during south park theme :)

Sara 1980 @ 09/28/2008 at 2:15 am

Josh was actually the BEST part of the Emmy’s and everything else was just boring! I loved that he showed his funny side and obviously a lot of people dont know that side of Josh (other than the small glimpse in Jimmy Kimmels “F***ing Ben Afleck video).

Everyone was expecting the usual Baritone Josh to sing one of his songs. But he stepped out of the box and did an awesome job. Yeah, some things where goofy and dorky, but that’s Josh being Josh. He was having fun doing it and trying to get the audience going, so they can have a fun time! Because I know that everyone was having fun already!!! Hmmmmm…..NOT!!

He is an amazing talent. I mean, who doesnt on occasion step out of their element and be funny and creative! Everyone has a goofy-dork in them.

But…..Josh was singing a TRIBUTE to past TV shows. So…. He took a chance and shook things up a bit !!! I truly believe this will only push his career foward. I just loved it and I truly hope we get to see more of this side of him in the future!

Kudos to Josh! =)

You people are way too uptight!
That was an outstanding and simply FUN performance.
I enjoyed it tremendously.
GO JOSH…..
