Clay Aiken: I’m Gay (People Magazine Cover)
American Idol favorite Clay Aiken has finally come out as a gay man.
“Yes, I’m gay,” he tells People. “I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things.”
The 29-year-old Idol alum is on the mag’s cover with newborn son Parker.
In May, it was announced that Clay had given his sperm by artificial insemination to pal Jaymes Foster, sister of David Foster and Clay’s producer.
In July 2006, boybander Lance Bass also appeared on the cover of People with his own “I’M GAY” issue.

I always have found it amusing that those who “come out” of the closet are those who were never really in the closet to begin with.
Having said that, I commend Clay for his choice to come clean about his sexuality and I wish him the best as he raises his new son!

Yes, I agree with EVERYONE else that it’s not exactly the most surprising thing. However it’s pretty frustrating that that fact is underminding how big a deal his actually PUBLICALLY coming out and stating it is. Because it IS a big deal. It take a WHOLE lot of guts to come out when your main audience demographic is middle aged conservative white women! Not to mention the fact that he is southern and was raised very very Christian- that can’t have made it easy for him to actually admit either.
So yeah, I’m IMMENSLY proud of him, and I hope that he finds a newfound freedom now that he doesn’t have to keep denying it anymore :)
