as for the song- not gonna lie, i didn’t love it on first listen. its taken me a few go-throughs to warm up to it. someone else mentioned that they don’t really hear David in it… it’s him singing obviously, but there’s that special quality about some of his pre-Idol songs that really helped listeners connect with him. despite that little hiccup, i think the song has immense selling power and should be pretty popular on the radio circuit.
the bridge is gorgeous, as well as that little acoustic bit he gets to do as well. that took me by happy surprise.
so good job david. if your album is anywhere near as good as this first song, you’re gonna have a ton of happy fans.

as for the song, its lright. i was expecting it to be better. David’s voice was not very tuned nd it sounded rough and harsh. The studio versions of his performances on idol were a lot better. I really hope the other songs in his album are better than this. ‘light on’ diddnt sound like it was coming from the david cook i have come to like so much. chris cornell isnt a lyric genius, david shouldnt have teamed up with him. the lyrics of the songs featured in analog heart were better.

Oh, man. What happened to David Cook? I thought he was pretty cool on Idol. Great voice, decent person. They really messed with his voice on this song, though. UGH. I guess most of the people who love it are chicks who are still infatuated, but believe me, Cook has sounded light years better on other songs that he put out by himself.

Those of you who are being over-critical of the picture need to get a life! Take a look at the start of the majority of celebrities - especially singers - and you’ll find the look changes considerably until they get their signature style down.
The song took me a couple of listens to love it, but I do. It’s classic David Cook… a little bit of an edgy sound to a positive, passionate message. I can’t wait until he has an album out… I think he’ll be a real contributor to the music industry.

It’s sad how cruel people can be just because they don’t care for a picture or prefer another artist. Yes, David Archuletta is good, but why compare these guys over and over again because Cook won? As for this song…it’s AMAZING. Listen to it a few times (really listen). David’s voice is wonderful (Daughtry is good too, but Cook’s got the better voice - hands down), and the lyrics are great as well.

It’s nice to see someone write a nice comment and not mention issues with a little bit of makeup or how someone else has a better song. Isn’t it sad how many of Archuletta’s fans seem so threatened or bothered by Cook…as if they can’t both be good, both do well and both be treated as they deserve. :o) I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album either - if the other songs are half as good as this one, it’ll be amazing and should do very well. The first time I heard this song, I thought about my son-in-law who just got deployed leaving my daughter at home eight months pregnant with their first baby. I’ve seen the anguish that he went through telling her that his obligation to serve his country supersedes the obligations to his wife and unborn son. Even after reading the lyrics, which is more likely about the pain of a breakup, I see my daughter leaving a light on for him to return home.

I had to listen to it a couple times, myself. I do hear that eighties rock thing some have mentioned, but…so what? The song was written by Cornell, wasn’t it? It’s serviceable. Probably do what he needs it to do: get him on the radio. I, too, love his ‘pure’ voice more than an over-processed arrangement–it’s why that coronation song did as it did; the vocals were all David Cook.
People, we may have fell in love with David Cook on AI, but he was jabbing every which way (to use that over-worked boxing analogy), doing what he had to do to WIN. And he won. Now, let the artist develop. I personally like the look he had for Be My Baby, but I’m not going to spaz because he wants to wear guy-liner, or some excited marketing director thinks this is the way to go. Not a big deal.
I’m waiting for the music written (or co-written) by David–full all that passion and verve we picked up on over the airwaves. It’s there. But don’t forget, as winner, he has many contractual constraints on how and what he puts out right now. Give him just a wee small break right now.

I have to be honest, when I first heard this song I only liked it, but it was intriguing enough that I wanted to hear it again. That song turned out to be so catchy and it really grew on me. By the third time of hearing it I loved it!! I love David Cook I have been a fan since he first auditioned last year on A.I, and I continue to stand by as a solid ever-believing fan!! That guy is pure talent and pure heart…. a rare gem and a valuable find!! Oh and that picture, well even the most photographic people can have an unflattering moment. David is gorgeous and ordinarily takes stunning pictures. This was’t his best, but this isn’t his last… he will have plenty more in which will redeem him. Cut the guy some slack, buy his album on November 18th and eat your nasty comments.

however,i feel like i love david cook after listening to his voice lots of times when he sings always be my baby,the music of the night,the time of my life and light on.
he seems to be so cool,matured and rock!
he deserved to be the american idol!
i wished i could spend time watching the american idol season 7 last year but unfortunately i could not due to my biggest SPM examination
