Johnny Depp is The Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp and Disney announced at the Walt Disney Studios Showcase in Hollywood, that he will play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.

Depp and Burton first teamed up for the 1990’s film Edward Scissorhands. This latest version of Alice In Wonderland will be in 3D, using a mix of live action and performance capture CGI.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star will also play the sidekick Tonto in the upcoming movie version of The Lone Ranger.

Depp also agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Love him, love him, LOVE HIM!!!!
Oh, I will watch every movie he’s in. One of the very VERY few truly great American actors.

I think it’s interesting he took the “Tonto” role in The Lone Ranger. I’m sure he will give a real respect and humanity to Native Americans.

Another Jack Sparrow movie??? I’m SO there.

He is one busy man. No mention of him taking on the riddler, but I don’t think he will have the time. I think he is a perfect choice for the Mad Hatter in Alice.

I think it will be lame his movies r getting lame aswell, and tim Burton needs to do a brand new film and stop with the musicals and NO MORE REMAKES. As for Johnny depp he should play an american guy for once and do a completely different role.

wow i didn’t know about the 4th pirates movie

i was excited already because of alice in wonderland
because i love this movie and if you add tim’s creativity is going to be bad ass, but now the movie will also have johnny?? damn i can’t imagine and can’t wait to see it

I think the Mad Hatter will be great, but I hope they change things up for a fourth ‘Pirates’. They need a really great script or it will suck. Maybe an ‘origins’ story :) JUST KIDDING.
As far as Lone Ranger……I just read that George Clooney will be the Lone Ranger to Johnny’s Tonto. I thought it was a JOKE! it isn’t. This does not bode well for Depp. Clooney will just do another shiteous ‘Batman & Robin’ to this movie. He can’t act in a movie like that. He can ONLY DO tongue in cheek roles.
Please don’t let the Clooney ‘rumor’ be true…

cpt jack sparo as well! just keeps getting better i thought they killed it with potc - at worlds end though. who knows? i hope its a better attemp if it does go in to production.

I agree with #24 and #28,but as long as I am responding to the above statement that Johnny Depp is that “crazy english guy (I am assuming that you mean Sweeny Todd), for which he was nominated for best
actor. This was a musical, and Johnny had never sang on screen before. I dare say that some of us would find it difficult to speak, much less sing. Continuing with the movies in which he has perfomed , other than those listed above, here are a few that you might want to check out: From Hell, Ninth Gate, Nick of Time, Libertine, Don Juan, Charlie & the Choclate Facory, Benny & Joon, (for this he was nominated for a Golden Globe) and Secret Window. I honestly believe that he is the most talented actor of our time, and it is regretable that the academy has not recognized his genius,.

The whole point is that Johnny is one of the only actors out there that can play a wide range of “looney” characters and make them all believable.
I think he is a phenomenal actor.
