Paul Newman Dead at 83

Legendary actor Paul Newman passed away last night at the age of 83 at his home in Westport, Connecticut.

A former chain smoker, Newman had been diagnosed with lung cancer in June of this year and ultimately died of it.

He appeared in over 60 movies including: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. Nominated nine times for an Oscar, he won best actor for the 1986 film, The Color of Money.

Also known as the founder of Newman’s Own food company, his daugher Nell will most likely take over. Profits and royalties from the company are donated to charity and have exceeded $220 million as of last year.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family and friends.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Newman, who was one of the finest actors to ever grace the silver screen. He was a rare mixture of enormous talent and modesty, who also found the time to establish important charities in the name of his late son Scott and for children suffering from cancer. He was quite unique.

So many memories of this great man on screen and in his comments off screen. I think the Newman Foundation said it best:

“Paul Newman’s craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all.”

Rest in Peace Paul! And to his family: The world mourns with you. We have lost one of the truly great actors and philanthropists of our time.

Paul Newman had a soft spot in his magnificent heart for the perceived underdog who might not have otherwise experienced opportunity in life….he was at the forefront of the new philanthropy!

One of my favorite quotes is about his enduring marriage with his magnificent wife, Joanne Woodward: “I have steak at home, why do out for hamburger”?

ok, first off, i think paul newman was a great human being, and it’s sad that he passed, but still, he was 83, lived a full life, so i can’t help but be happy for him

secondly: if being a chain smoker results in you dying at the tender age of 83, then i’m all for it! (and i’m not a smoker, maybe i should start?)

So sad. they don’t make people like this anymore. Great actor, great philanthropist (giving without any fanfare about it). What a great concept to start a food factory and donate all the roceedings. I always by Newman’s own salad dressing knowing the money goes to the poor.
A sad day in America…

He’s one of those actors that you admired. His marriage to another actress has lasted for 50 years!! And I admire them for making their marriage work!!
I don’t think any Hollywood couple can outlast these two!!

I think his salad dressing will now be even more sold!!
