Paul Newman Dead at 83
Legendary actor Paul Newman passed away last night at the age of 83 at his home in Westport, Connecticut.
A former chain smoker, Newman had been diagnosed with lung cancer in June of this year and ultimately died of it.
He appeared in over 60 movies including: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. Nominated nine times for an Oscar, he won best actor for the 1986 film, The Color of Money.
Also known as the founder of Newman’s Own food company, his daugher Nell will most likely take over. Profits and royalties from the company are donated to charity and have exceeded $220 million as of last year.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family and friends.
R.I.P.

This is the kind of man to look up to…no whoring out his family, no pimping the kids for photo-ops, no declarations about his charity work. Really, in comparison, most of what Hollywood attracts these days is cheap, plastic, not-worthy-of-fame famewhores and poseurs. He was the real deal.
I loved how he did his charity work quietly without big fanfare over the years.
Just a private and classy family man. R.I.P Paul.
I only buy his pasta sauce.
Some people should live forever…
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family & friends; he will be sorely missed.
I do have a question to some posters, though…. How should Jared change to “title” to make it less… cold? It’s an obituary. Most likely the standard one placed by the A. P. (Associated Press news-service). Have any of you even read obits? They’re pretty much the same: announcing a passing of celebrities &/or ordinary people.
I believe the ONLY time the “title” gets emotional, much less the rest of it, is for family & friends known to you. In this case, I don’t believe that Jared personally knew Mr. Newman, & so is entitled to post the standard obit.
I’ve said it… ‘Bye!
i nearly cried when i heard this earlier.
he is such a stark contrast to the young “actors” of today, it’s sort of depressing. They just don’t make em like they used to.
Rest in Peace.
a legend, a star is borned & light our night now & forever
a sad sad day for the world…he shall be missed. R.I.P

The sky seems a little more blue today….
Jared,
How about posting a photo tribute to Paul Newman instead of this later in life photo. I am tired of seeing Lesbian Lilo… how bout some pics that ascend the decadence of Hollywood?
Oh I know Jared, he was not gay, having an affair, scientologist, etc etc
For the JustJared posters I just saw where TMZ had the decency to post a photo tribute. So, if you are young and have no clue about Paul Newman he was a Hollywood great that even though I am in my 30s I really respected.

~~NEW PAUL NEWMAN THREAD~~
I love Paul Newman. Love love love him. I had the original black and white poster of his gorgeous self with the blue eyes - on my bedroom wall. Back in the days of drive-ins I can’t count the times I watched (well, went to see) Hombre and Cool Hand Luke.
I am also old enough to remember that for the most part Newman, the actor, was dismissed as a pretty face for a long time. In all fairness, some of his early acting was cringe worthy. But he grew as an actor through the years and he won over both critics and the public and eventually the Academy but not til he was in his 50s. His huge stardom was not based on his acting ability but on his total hotness - just like Redford. It’s nice though that he became a fine actor.
I am also old enough to remember that, of course, he was very public about his charitable works and issues. Both the center he created to fight drugs after the suicide or accidental overdose of his son from his first marriage and his food products and later his Hole in the Wall Camps. Newman was smart and savy about his charitable works and knew how to get the publicity and awareness necessary for them to be effective and successful. You think it was an accident his face is prominently displayed on the label of his products. Of course not.
Some of his movies have my favorite romantic turns by a male like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (we’ll forget that the reality of the character was that he was hiding he was gay and that’s waht drove his alcoholism and disinterest in his wife), From the Terrace, The Long Hot Summer, The Young Philadelphians, Hud, and Exodus. What a man!
I would love a Paul Newman marathon about now. There’s a crazy one with Joanne Woodward called A New Kind of Love which is great for the hate becomes hot love story line between the two.
This good man will be missed.
A wonderful actor and a great humanitarian. He will always be a legend.
RIP

THE WORLD HAS LOST A GREAT MAN AND ONE OF THE MOST TALLENTED ACTORS OF ALL TIMES.

This is a sad day for everyone. A true gentleman and one of the best at being a man and as an actor. Rest in peace.
