Hilary Duff Releases “That’s So Gay” PSA
Hilary Duff loves the gays!
The Duffster, 21, has teamed up with The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to create a campaign in which the term “that’s so gay” is used casually in an effort to help teens recognize that their anti-LGBT language is harmful. Watch the video below!
Comedian Wanda Sykes also has a PSA coming out soon about this.

that was the most pointless PSA ever! It was so gay! haha.
wow, ‘this psa is so gay’? that’s sooooooo creative! how long did it take you retards to think of that?
anyways, i think it’s so good that an influential star such as hilary is encouraging ppl to think before they speak. whether you think it’s offensive to say ‘that’s gay’, or don’t care, there are ppl who do.
hilary is such a beautiful role model! definetly someone that these dumb desperate famewhore teen celebs should follow, and look up to!
ps.
if you dont like the PSA, stfu and don’t watch it! don’t bother commenting either!
# 70… you made my point.
homophobia is gay
Go back to high school musical!
Im gay myself an dont get insulted by people who say that something is gay.
They dont mean anything bad they dont even realize what they are saying when they say thats so gay. So who cares I think disney channel is kinda gay though and that whole montana thing.
Thats so gay
So you saying “you retards” is any better? I would use the word gay before i would use the word ******.
WAY TO GO HILARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish there was one on downs and all disabilities. I’m sick of the snickers, jokes and looks! I just read on MSN that someone said Reese Witherspoon looked like she had Downs on some Star Mag cover, cruel and unnecessary.
Thank you for being so young and wanting to change the way people think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If people want to fight against discrimination, I’m all for it. But to battle one phrase that is not intended to be insulting… seems like a waste of effort. Why not fight against intentional hate and discrimination? It seems like this ad doesn’t target a real issue. It doesn’t raise awareness of tolerance… it’s more of an english lesson on the meaning of “gay”. That video was so gay… sorry… I mean, that video was so Hillary Duff!
Ok, here’s the deal. This idea is so retardedly gay it makes me sick. There’s always going to be someone that’s offended. Always. The original meaning of the word gay was happy. THEN the word became a representation of homosexuality, and after THAT it became a word used to describe things that were unfavorable. Homosexuals are homosexuals…good for you…be out…be proud…have lots of anal sex and scissor until you convulse in an ******. I don’t care. But don’t act like you OWN the word gay. You don’t. The N word, The K word for Jews…words like these are legitimate no-no’s. They started and will end as derogatory slurs for each respective people. Gay has been used for numerous things over the course of the past 100 years, and it seems that homosexuals are only pissed when the word is used to describe something NOT homosexual. Again, I’m all about equal rights, and everyone’s happinness…but in that regard, I’m not to let a bunch of whinners all of a sudden pretend like they own a word that they don’t. Hillary Duff…you are so gay…
Um…what if I mean “that’s so happy?”
The dictionary definition of “gay” is NOT homosexual.

F*ck the straights! Nothing but a bunch of mindless sub-humans.:)
Celebrities usually do PSA’s to fulfill community service obligations. Who gives a crap what Hillary Duff has to say about anything? She’s just looking for approval from the hollywood elite, who have their fad causes. Today it’s the word “gay, yesterday it was Darfur, and the day before it was PETA.
Gee, I wonder what George Clooney thinks, NOT!
(YAWN)
The more you protest the more you promote universal usage of the phrase. Besides it is still a free country and free speech. As for the stars doing condescending ads on tv and elsewhere, society says to all of you, KNOCK-IT-OFF!! Freedom reigns!!
instead of saying “that is SO Julia and Emma” or “that is SO girl wearing a skirt as a top” I have now introduced the phrase “that is SO Hilary Duff” into my vocabulary to indicate something that is SO stupid or asinine. Because these ads are SO asinine.
So, this ad is SO Hilary Duff.
And by Hilary Duff I mean intellectually empty and brain-dead in terms of linguistics.
I encourage all of you to say ‘that is SO Hilary Duff” when you mean to indicate that something is stupid or pretentious or uneducated.
I don’t care either way for Hilary Duff, but completely agree with the message of the video.
…But the thing is, the pink top looked really great on the girl trying it on, making “gay” appear to be a compliment, to me. =o)
The word “gay” has many different meanings and connotations. Originally meaning “carefree” and “happy” (this meaning used frequently on the Flintstones (1960-66)), the word was adopted by the homosexual community to represent themselves much later, during the 1970s. Prior to this, it referred to a wide variety of pejorative meanings, from unmarried people living “loose” lives, to prostitution, to men who frequented brothels, among many others. Essentially, it was filthy word to begin with. And it always has been. So unless someone directly gives me evidence that the phrase, “that’s so gay” refers specifically to the homosexual community, rather than rubbish or trash, I won’t “knock it off”.
Freedom of speech!!!! How the **** do they expect people to stop saying thats so gay anyways? Does is really matter?
This whole campaign is sooo Gay!
I think the “Think before you Speak” Campaign is ridiculous!
America was built on Free Speech.
YOU - knock it off!
I do consider saying “that’s so gay” as a form of hate speech. I recently had an experience where a young girl said this to me and my reaction was to laugh. I laughed mostly because I was shocked at the lack of social sensitivity she had towards others. She didn’t know me or my values yet felt it was safe to say something like that. I don’t think she was trying to be offensive, yet as a lesbian parent I NEVER want my son to hear the term “gay” used in a negative format! I did say something to this girl in hopes, not to limit her freedom of speech, but maybe to enhance her social sensitivity and help her become aware of what others may view as unacceptable language. The language I may use with my peers may not always be the language I choose to use in a public forum. That’s the point!
What about “Saying something is ‘gay’ is offensive and homophobic” is SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? It’s a SLUR. No one’s trying to stomp on your freedom of speech. The PSA is just pointing out if you use homophobic slurs to indicate that you think something is stupid / cheap / lame / etc. you are a ****ing homophobic idiot. Feel free to demean gays and lesbians. Everyone else with a brain will continue to think you’re all ********.
