Jude Law as Dr. Watson — FIRST LOOK

Check out the first pictures of Jude Law as Dr. Watson, the sidekick to pipe-smoking sleuth Sherlock Holmes. (On Friday, we brought you the first pictures of RDJ as Sherlock Holmes.)

“We’re going to try to introduce something we haven’t seen before, authentic to the narrative,” director Guy Ritchie has said of his new flick. “We’re trying to make this film fresh. We should have some good fight sequences.”

He added, “My one concern was the accents but this is no longer the case. Robert Downey has the best English accent I’ve ever heard. Also Rachel McAdams is playing American (love interest Irene Adler), which is true to the books. Outside of that, Jude is obviously Brit. Robert was obviously going to be the big one, and we seem to have transcended that particular hurdle.”

Definitely liking the way Watson looks, but I’m not so certain about Robert Downey, Jr.’s Holmes. I mean I feel like there should definitely be some facial hair going on.

This movie is going to be hot! hot! hot!

RDJ and Jude Law together!

Jude looks great as Watson. This could be the best Sherlock Holmes EVER!

As a die hard ORIGINAL Sherlock Holmes fan I must say that I’m exceedingly nervous about the outcome of this film. It looks to be yet another wild departure from the true character of the great detective. Why people can’t just remain true to the truth I will never understand. Robert Downey, Jr. is by far the most ill-chosen actor for Holmes that I’ve ever had the misfortune to witness. But I am relieved to admit that Jude Law surprisingly looks the part of Watson, I only hope that he can act it as well. I’ve never seen any of his work, therefore I cannot yet pass judgement on his abilities but I wish him well. As for his friend…I fear there is little hope indeed. Perhaps he’s not yet fully costumed…

Holmesian, HE CAN DO IT. He will act it excellent. Forget about he’s sexy, handsome or whatever (things I really don’t find important), HE’S A GREAT ACTOR.

I have a question…does anybody know why men wore those arm bands, like the gold ones Jude is wearing near his elbows? I’ve just been wondering about that and thought I’d ask.

Also…I feel a longing to grab Jude by those leather suspenders, drag him off somewhere, and play doctor Watson with him for hours…*guh*

I Love Jude ♥

The more i see his movies, the more excited i get.
I am convinced that this journey makes me better, more open and more understanding to the world.

He already opened up such depths in my soul that I never thought existed.

Finally, my admiration for him continues to grow stronger each passing day…

Sheryl,

the armband that Jude wore is called Sleeve Garter . It was part of men’s Accessories. The materials and the colours were varied.

During the the latter half of the 19th century, ready made shirts came in a single (extra long) sleeve length. Sleeve garters allowed men to customize sleeve lengths, and keep their clothing from becoming soiled while working.

And the Shirt that he wore is called Gambler Shirt , and I see that he wore Collar studs too.

I can not wait to see Jude in Victorian Coat, with scarf, vest, hat, walking stick…I love men fashion in Victorian era. They really knew how to “dress”!

Thanks Rien. That’s really interesting. I was wondering about those arm things too as well as the style of shirt, etc. Still, hoping he rips it all off so we can see that sexy undershirt. ha. just kidding.

Thanks a bunch, Rien! Now that you say that, I recall hearing something like that before on a History Channel show or something.

Hmmmm…is this Dunhill for the 1890s? :)

my grandfather wore one of those bands a long time ago.he did not look like jude law by the way.

What a bullsh*t remake! Jeremy Brett IS Sherlock…. forever. This movie is going to suck.

I must warn any reall Holmes fans that it’s pretty awful. I think I’ll save my movie ticket money for something a little more original. I mean, would it have killed them NOT to butcher Holmes’ character?? :(
