Angelina Jolie’s W Magazine Photo Spread Revealed

Angelina Jolie’s W Magazine Photo Spread Revealed

W Magazine has published a bunch of the photos of Angelina Jolie and the kids, as photographed by longtime partner Brad Pitt. You can view them at WMagazine.com. (You have to click through the eight slides in the Flash slideshow.) Here are some choice excerpts from the cover article:

– Every family has its unique rites of passage, those generational milestones that mark a child’s growth and remind parents of their own similar experiences, years earlier. In the Jolie-Pitt household, one such event is the day a kid begins collecting daggers. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s seven-year-old son, Maddox, like many boys his age, has lately developed a fondness for guns and knives, and Jolie proudly notes that the predilection runs in the family. “My mom took me to buy my first daggers when I was 11 or 12,” she recalls. “And I’ve already bought Maddox some things. We take him to a special shop.” She emphasizes that the knife blades are dulled so they’re not dangerous, and that the purchases are accompanied by discussions about violence. But, she says, “we also talk about samurais and about the idea of defending someone as good. We talk about everything.”

– If Jolie has a favorite possession, she says, it’s the overstuffed Tumi case that holds the family’s travel documents: Vietnamese, Namibian, Ethiopian, French and American passports, plus her own UN credentials.

– The Jolie-Pitt bedroom, of course, remains off-limits to journalists. And sometimes even to kids, Jolie declares. “The kids do knock before entering,” she says. “We’ve at least got that part down. Because Mommy and Daddy need some space.”

She seems in such a great place in her life. If you are going to do an interview, I’d rather see the real person than a fake image (ie Jlo)

Love them all but I think my favourites right now are the one with Shilo, Pax and Angie, and the one with Mad laughing with Angie. Brad did a good job showing blissfully intimate moments. Can’t wait for the issue!

Love this part (about Rosie’s comments on her and Brad)

“No,” she says. “I mean, how should someone respond to something like that? She doesn’t know me. I have nothing to defend in my life. I’m sure she’s one of many people that have opinions.”

People can spew negative things about them. Who cares? Brad and Angie sure don’t, why should we?

luvangie4ever @ 10/13/2008 at 11:32 am

OMG These photographs are priceless! My favourite is the one with Maddox. But they’re all beautiful, all tastefully done. We think she’s beautiful but imagine how beautiful she is through the eyes of the father of her children. The one with Angie eating the burger made me laugh out loud, she gave him the look like she was saying “put that camera down already”.

How can anyone here complain that the media exploits this couple when they choose to exploit themselves? These moments with their children are PRIVATE and should be kept so. Why even feel the inclination to share these pics with the public unless you enjoy the publicity that comes along with it? Hypocritical much of them? And don’t even attempt to justify it with the excuses that they are proud and want to share their life with the world or that Brad is an artist and blah, blah, blah…All I can say is don’t keep expressing in interviews how the media is invasive and disturbs your life when you do the same thing to yourself in this magazine…they are as guilty of keeping the media interest on them as the papz and press…

Maria (Shorty) @ 10/13/2008 at 10:56 am I ADORE Angie, but I don’t go for the knife thing! Sorry, but I don’t like this bit at all.

…I guess I’ll take your word for it that you’re an Angelina fan, but your attitude surprises me.

Angelina is a person who, UNLIKE YOU, doesnt place judgements on others…especially on personal matters having to do with their children. I’ve learned a lot from her in this respect, and have adopted a live and let live mentality when it comes to other peoples personal matters that is NONE OF MY BUSINESS, and which DOES NOT AFFECT ME.

…When you are a fan of someone, it doesnt mean that you have to approve of everything they do. They are a separate person, with their own individual morals and ethics. If you are a REAL fan of theirs, you would understand that they have as much of a right as YOU DO to raise their children as they see fit. If you are the kind of fan that expects an artist to do things that would NEVER offend you, then I think you should go over to the JENHAG thread.

…Many people teach their children to hunt and KILL live animals without having ANY conversation at all about the value of an animals life or lives in general, which I find very archaic and cruel, but to each his own.

Parents share their own interests with their children. Hunting deer and other animals who are endangered species is unacceptable to some people…yet some parents set up their whole lifestyle around hunting to the point where they have their innocent kill hung on their wall where unsuspecting guests have to endure looking at them. Why no uproar over that?

I think Maddox would be more prepared to know how to behave around dangerous weapons moreso than if he was a child that was shielded from any such interests, and then stumbled upon sharp kitchen utensils and such and started playing with them unbeknownced to his parents.

If you’ve followed Angie’s life in the public eye at all, you know that she loves Maddox dearly, and would never let anything happen to him. That goes double for Brad. The fact that she encourages his boyhood interests and gives him guidance about safety, violence..etc..is very enlightened.

You need to lighten up.

States’ Film Production Incentives Cause Jitters
By MICHAEL CIEPLY

LOS ANGELES — Already on the hook for billions to bail out Wall Street, taxpayers are also finding themselves stuck with a growing tab for state programs intended to increase local film production.

One of the most shocking bills has come due in Louisiana, where residents are financing a hefty share of Brad Pitt’s next movie — $27,117,737, to be exact, which the producers will receive by cashing or selling off valuable tax credits.

As the number of movies made under these plans multiplied in recent years, the state money turned into a welcome rescue plan for Hollywood at a time when private investors were fleeing the movies. But the glamour business has not always been kind to those who pick up the costs, and states are moving to rein in their largess that has allowed producers to be reimbursed for all manner of expenditures, whether the salaries of stars, the rental of studio space or meals for the crew.

Louisiana, one of the most assertive players in the subsidy game, wound up covering that outsize piece of the nearly $167 million budget of Mr. Pitt’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” — the state’s biggest movie payout to date — when producers for Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers qualified the coming movie, a special-effects drama, under an incentive that has since been tightened. Separately, Louisiana’s former film commissioner is set to be sentenced in January to as much as 15 years in federal prison for taking bribes to inflate film budgets (though not that of “Button”) and, hence, pay higher subsidies.

Michigan, its own budget sagging, is in the middle of a hot political fight over a generous 40 percent rebate on expenditures to filmmakers that was carried out, with little opposition, only last April. Producers of films for studios like Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Company rushed to cash in, just as homegrown businesses were squeezed by a new business tax and surcharge. Rebellious legislators from both parties are now looking to put a cap on the state’s annual film spending, which some have estimated could quickly hit $200 million a year.

In Rhode Island, meanwhile, the rules have toughened considerably. That happened after The Providence Journal reported in March that producers of a straight-to-DVD picture called “Hard Luck,” which starred Wesley Snipes and Cybill Shepherd, had picked up $2.65 million in state tax credits on a budget of $11 million, even though it had reported paying only $1.9 million of the total to Rhode Islanders.

“With this much money involved, there’s going to be a temptation to hype budgets,” said Peter Dekom, a veteran entertainment business lawyer who is an adviser to New Mexico’s incentive program.

The vogue for state film subsidies appears to have started in Colorado early this decade, with a briefly financed Defense Against Canada law that was devised to win production back from Vancouver and Toronto. Louisiana and New Mexico soon came on board.

By this year, about 40 states were offering significant subsidies, turning the United States into what the Incentives Office, a consulting firm in Santa Monica, Calif., has called the New Bulgaria. It is a reference to what was once the film industry’s favorite low-cost production site.

Virtually all of the programs use a state tax system to reimburse producers for money spent on movies or TV shows shot in the state. Some, like Michigan’s, simply refund a percentage of expenditures to the producer. Others, like Louisiana’s, issue a tax credit that can reduce the taxes a production pays or be sold to someone else. Either way, the state gives up revenue that otherwise would be collected to put money in the producer’s pockets.

Advocates, of course, argue that these programs create jobs.

One of the country’s most successful programs is in New Mexico, which has backed movies like the Oscar-winning “No Country for Old Men” and next year’s “Terminator Salvation,” the latest sequel in the action series, with a reported budget of $200 million.

New Mexico officials boast of having used a 25 percent production cost rebate to build a local film industry that has attracted more than $600 million in direct spending since 2003, and an estimated $1.8 billion in total financial impact, as of last June. And in fiscal year 2008, the productions in the state generated 142,577 days of employment, up from 25,293 in 2004.

Elsewhere, however, critics have sharply challenged the notion that state subsidies for the film business can ever buy more than momentary glitter.

“There’s no evidence yet that this is a particularly efficient or effective way to create jobs,” said Noah Berger, executive director of the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center.

The nonprofit center reviews budget and tax policies in Massachusetts, which is spending about $60 million a year on producer credits. A recent study by Mr. Ber

I so totally agree there both freaks, its horrible pictures Angie looks as they would say fugly. What did she do to her face. There both insane people bringing up these beautiful children OMG. Everything out of her mouth is insane oh and please don’t accuse me of liking Jen b/c she don’t thrill me either. Brad is a follower something is wrong with him also Jane Pitt start speaking to your son just maybe he can be saved!!!!

I just don´t understand what they want to accomplish with these photographs?

Are they not the ones who always wanted to keep their “private” life to themselves?

Then why the hell (if not for narcistic reasons) would they publish these pictures? Shots of themselves I would understand—–but why the children?

They don´t even have a say in this (they just don´t know any better), they´re just being exposed —————and for what reason?

Again, one can only assume that all the attention is truly getting to them.

From the W Magazine
November 2008

Brad Pitt’s project for W actually sprang from a conversation W’s Creative Director Dennis Freedman had with another photographer, Bruce Weber. Freedman had been mulling over how to show anything new about one of the most photographed women in the world and Weber pointed out that, in his opinion, the best pictures of Elizabeth Taylor were taken by her third husband, Mike Todd.

“I was surprised that Brad accepted the challenge,” says Freedman of Pitt’s enthusiastic response. “Last time we collaborated, I was struck by his sensitivity to the subtleties of photography. I knew that he possessed a highly tuned critical eye and would be very demanding of himself. Still, I wasn’t prepared for the beauty and intimacy of the images he made of Angelina and the children.”

The photos are beautiful and tastefuul done.Anyone know were I can get W in the UK.Its a must have for fans.

Mary - actually, your way of thinking is quite illogical here.

The point that you are missing is that the Jolie-Pitt are showing you the REAL JOLIE PITT….not the media’s version of Jolie-Pitt.

Given the kind of lies and wrong image projected out there through the media, it is quick an effective thing for them to do…..

cause this Jolie-Pitt that you are seeing is 10000% different than the one you read in the tabloids.

In the end, the only fool is the one who was gullible and stupid to pony out money at the checkout when in fact, they could me reading this REAL JOLIE-PITT straight from the hosrse-mouth so to speak.

The laugh is on you and the tabloids. Certainly NOT Jolie-Pitt or their fans who knew the real THEM…

ha bdj you are the one who is making it seem like Angelna is overexposed with your fantastic daily rundown of articles. keep it coming.

Angelina and family have only been in the media 3 times in recent months: the People/Hello magazine covers of the twins birth, Changeling’ premiere and assorted events/interviews related to it and this W magazine cover spread. that’s it!!!!!!!!!! hardly overexposure. The Today show interview will most likely be about Changeling. Brad will be up next with his highly anticipated new film and assorted media attached to it. LOL Sorry haters! These two are in demand working actors in their profession.

later…….

the real lou @ 10/13/2008 at 11:48 am

For all of you people claiming you are “sick” of the Jolie-Pitt’s,stop clicking on the damn thread.DUH!

Thanks Jared for the new thread. Can’t wait to get this magazine in the mail.(but I’m still going to buy a extra copy, lol)I just loved the back-story of how Brad came to be the photographer for the shoot.

On and mary, would you sit down while someone who does not KNOW you like Roseanne Barr open her twat and say something about you….

Well, Jolie told her and you what she thinks of her in this magazine. And that is great of her.

I swear some of you people are so hypocritical it’s not even funny. You rip other celebs apart but when one of the Jolie-Pitt broods does something its ooh and awe. The fact is it is irresponsible for those children to have knives and guns. But will anything be done about it NO because they are who they are. But if it thats was me children service would be beating my door down.

Mary @ 10/13/2008 at 11:39 am

As far as I know their singular complaint is the way the paps ‘crowd’ the children and Angie has even suggested that they could use long lens which would be just as effective for the paps (after all THEY certainly aren’t after any art shots). So stop your transparent whining, Mary!

The truth is out there somewhere and it is not all Tab bull. The troll likes to come running to Just Jared with its negative slant and Tabloid BS. If they live on Just Jared, then they will get “over-exposed” with positive articles. My bad!!!!

I love how much attention and detail he seem to put into everything about this spread. Not just the photos themselves but what type of film he wanted to use. I wonder if he puts that type of attention in everything? Is it hot in here?

Susan
This article has been posted already but here is my response again.

You do realize that States have these incentives plans to lure Hollywood and movie production to their particular states. Benjamin Button movie filmed for 6 months in New Orleans and generate revenue and income. However, if some states are bothered by their own plans, then they need to revise it. Benjamin Button is a high profile movie with two major production companies. BP is merely the star of the movie, out of many actors. Are you going to blame Cate Blanchette also. Perhaps you should channel your Perez Hilton, NY times article and the other excerpts that the Female First campaigned to send to the media, to the proper authories and movie production houses.

tina like jen @ 10/13/2008 at 11:55 am

jane was there when the pictures were taken looking after the twins.I enjoy your pain.Thank you for clicking on the link tina,Brad and Angelina knew people like you would be the first to click and make the cover popular.tina we all know you like jen why else would you be here.

Mary @ 10/13/2008 at 11:39 am How can anyone here complain that the media exploits this couple when they choose to exploit themselves?…

_________________________

Mary, you are a hypocrit.

…Anyone seriously against participating or encouraging the ‘exploitation’ that you claim the Jolie-Pitts are demonstrating would not be seeking out information about them or COMMENTING ON BLOGS AS OFTEN AS YOU HAVE!…

…Brad and Angie have EVERY RIGHT to comment on the ANAMALISTIC tendencies of paparrazzi’s scaring children, stalking out schools, and trespassing on private property!…

…If Brad and Angie decide to take photos of their family…IN A SETTING OF THEIR CHOICE so the fans can enjoy a glimpse of their life, its NO DIFFERENT THAN WHEN OTHER STARS LIKE PAUL NEWMAN AND HIS WIFE DID IT!!!!!

…If you think papparrazzi have the right to exploit celebrities and chase them down in cars the way they did to Princess Diana, just so they can make a buck….you’re really sick.

Jill @ 10/13/2008 at 11:13 am
