When you talk about Rome. The town where i born Split, is most famous because whole city square is surrounding with walls of “Diocletian Palace”. The palace is built for Roman emperor Diocletian, it is pretty large, and under protection of UNESCO…

My country like every European country is old with enormous culture… Pula other big town is famous for “Arena”… one of largest beside
these in Rome…. Every year we have Film festival there… :-))))

There are other buildings in Split that were constructed I suspect by the Venetians. In the Middle Ages, Venice was one of the greatest sea powers and trading centers of Europe. It controlled most of the coasts of the Adriatic Sea and had other imperial possessions along the sea route to Greece and Constantinople. The Doge or Duke of Venice was probably richer than the King of France, although I believe the Doge was elected. The great thing about present day Venice is that there are no cars there. You have to walk or take a water taxi. It is full of great paintings too, mainly in the churches. Especially Titiano.

Split has a population of over 200,000 and about double that in the metropolitan area. This would be a CITY, not a town. There is no rigid population line between town and city but I would say that a “town” in the USA would be a place with fewer than 50,000 people. More than that is a CITY.
