Jenny McCarthy on Beating Autism

In the latest issue of Us Weekly, Jenny McCarthy tells her heartwarming story about how her son is beating autism.

Battling doctors, a failed marriage and her own guilt, the 35-year-old actress tells how her son Evan recovered from autism. Jenny said, “When he finally hugged me I prayed, ‘Please God don’t let this be the only time’.”

In related news, former Rescue Me star Denis Leary writes that autism is a joke in his new book, “Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid”. Here’s an excerpt from the 51-year-old actor’s book:

“There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don’t give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He’s just stupid. Or lazy. Or both.”

hmm…I’m autistic…
I work a normal job full time, speak 4 languages, Am in my 3rd year Computer science and read almost every week at least one book…. dumb and lazy, hey?

I’ve just seen the show from Oprah on a Dutch channel… Well, I coudn’t make out on the little fragments we saw that her son is autistic, but I can say that I feel a little offended…
Coping mechanisms are inherent to someone who has autism… Almost every day we pretend that autism doesn’t exist… Exactly for what this actor and she is telling, to be not labeled as lazy, dumb, unwilling…
Autism is not a disease where you can get rid of… It is part of your child, so accept it… Accept his abilities, but please accept also his weaknesses! And before all love him just how he is, because probably he will need you a lot more than you ever can imagine!!!!!!

Autism can take many many forms . My fiance is insanely brillant but socially autistic. Some situations just freaks her out and she doesn’t know how to deal with it. Some big, like boats, some small, like entering buildings ahead of others.

Shes shy to others but we talk for hours every night have habe brillant discussions.

But she’s a pre-med currently at the top of her classes.
