The lyrics are very distasteful but that is how popular musics are these days. Well it wasn’t surprising as the song title is “eat you up” oh how ironic…. Her korean songs are a lot better maybe it’s because i don’t know what they translate to.
Erin, the asian version IS much better. Usually, Diane Martel directs nice music videos but for some reason, she edited this very badly. It looks very amateur. They don’t showcase her out-of-this-world dance skills. She needs to be given more credit and deserves much more than this sad music video. Please support BoA! yeah, i admit the asian version is much better. i mean, i like that the song is catchy, and boa’s english has come along way but you can still hear her accent a bit. one thing that i’m worried is alot of people making fun of her. that’d be so terrible, i mean i know they’d probably bag on her on mad tv and they would use bobby lee to be her or something like that. blah.

At #68, they’re VERY different. The US version is nothing compared to the Asia version (the one shown here). You have to watch and see for yourself. You’ll be amazed

That’s because from Asia, East Asian countries have the strongest economy and the biggest music markets, and actually *have* money to invest and possibly risk LOSING in a endeavor like this. It’s not an easy thing to do(seeing as it has never been done before…)

Wow… all a lot of Kpop/Jpop fans here huh? I don’t listen to this stuff and barely have heard of her, but I know a friend who’s heavily into the Asian pop scene.
The song is quite average. Her accent is also.. distracting. No offense, even with the auto tune, her voice is just not appealing. Dance moves.. average as well. She seems like person who can only rely on choreographed moves.
The Asian (?) MV is alright, but towards then I stopped watching because it was getting ridiculously cheesy with explosions and broken glass. Wth??

yea we’ll see how the accent affects things. other artists with accents like M.I.A. are making it to mainstream radio, but the asian accent tends to get flak.
oh well thats life right? JYP (BoA’s Korean entertainment company) is doing weekly auditions stateside, so maybe they’ll find gold. They’re giving auditions to people of all backgrounds. About time that the U.S. will have an actual “equal opportunity” entertainment co. Plus JYP’s working with bigname artists/producers, i.e. Lil Jon.
As much as I hate it, the US labels aren’t ready for an asian face. At least MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew is allowing us primetime to show our hip side. The entertainment world and social perception is the biggest barrier left for Asian-Americans imo.

Her entertainment company is SM Entertainment. JYP is another company, but they are also planning on introducing Koreans to the US industry sometimes soon.

She/He is talking about the US version of the music video. She has two male backup dancers that dances like they can’t keep up with her. It really is bad. However in the Asian versio of the music video, Misha and his team dances with her and has received way better response than the US version. They all kept up with her and the choreography is awesome.

This song sounds okay. It has a good beat and is catchy. Kinda reminds me of Britney Spears with all the dancing. The only bad thing I think is her accent. I was surprised that this was the same singer of “Every Heart” from the Inuyasha anime. I didn’t get “Eat You Up” at first which means that other people that never heard of Boa probably won’t get it either.

Honesty, I think it’s pathetic that some BoA fans are pretending and faking responses. As a BoA fan myself, I want to know what other people who have never heard of her think of her. As for the song and the m/v, it’s okay. I’m not particularly fond of the song mainly because of the lyrics but the beat is good and the chorus is very catchy. I personally think the m/v is really good. It showcases her great dancing (although a bit repetitive) and it shows her natural beauty unlike the other version of the m/v. I think someone mentioned that it was unattractive that she was in baggy clothing and I just want to say that she’s very attractive. it’s just that Americans are too used to seeing mainstream music artists half naked and dancing in suggestive ways.
Give this girl a chance is all I’m asking.
And rate her honestly and unbiasedly. And please don’t judge her by her race. After all that has happened in history (ex. segregation) we should know better than to make judgements based on a person’s race, ethnicity, color, religion, culture etc.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the positive, supposed newbie-to-BoA posts are fans, but really, no need to hate on the artist for it. Every artist have fans like those. To BoA fans, stop. You’re just going to get bashed for one thing and it backfires. Pointless although I know its out of good intentions. Anyway, I’ll say it right out, I’ve been a fan for years, and I for one, don’t think this is the right song for her to debut with. Its way too computerized, people are simply going to blow her off as a crap singer. Her moves are great in this, however, the songs only doing half the job it should. The video is ridiculous. So too are the lyrics to this song. There will be those who like it, however. Though, I won’t be one of them. Of course people will say that it’s just a feel good combination of music and lyrics, not intended to have any deeper meaning. I am not so sure. Unless someone has a penchant for the taste of human flesh, I don’t understand how anyone can stomach this written composition. But then again, not everyone will have the same tastes as I.
Just watch. Boa’s iTunes dance rank will be mere spikes of I’m guessing largely asian buyers acting in solidarity. It was 1 in Italy and already dropped to 5 there within a days time.

I was wondering how long it’d take before one of the blog sites caught onto this news since it’s been going around in the Asian forums and the LiveJournal fandoms for a few months now.
But nonetheless, I’m a bit skeptical of how it’ll turn out.. I do love the song though and she has improved in her English a lot.
Song’s not bad, but the video bothers me. The wardrobe and style of hiphop dance is very masculine and the song is very hyper sexualized. It’s weird to see that combination. I’m not saying booty shorts and humping dances, but more femininity would have been nice.

I know this song is definitely not the best from her, but fortunately it gets stuck in my head, because i like this though. Her voice sounds not so appealing here, thanks to the weird lyrics, her accent and such, but if you compare her old english accent to the one she has now, you can see she has improved her english very much though.
Her dancing skills are hot but she’s got even hotter coreographys.. Just give her a try! Not everyone become a big hit over night. I bet that the other songs in the coming album will be even better.

I’ll admit, I am a BoA fan. But I will try to be as unbiased as possible. The song, when I first heard it I thought it was pretty average, very repetitive. I thought it wouldn’t be strong enough for the US, it’s just not original at all. And the lyrics are mindless, but most lyrics are mindless these days. Once I got past the lyrics the song started to grow on me, it’s very catchy and gets stuck in your head easily. Of course her accent is there, but that shouldn’t be big problem. I loved the MV (the one by the Korean director of course) BoA’s dancing skills and the choreography are top notch. The “storyline” and effects are very cheesy though, but I didn’t mind much. All in all, I hope BoA will be able to make it in the US and I hope she’ll be able to handle all the criticism (because there will be a lot). She’s got my full support.

wow…. the first time I viewed that Asian version I was really amazed. The girl can really dance! It was so nice that she’s almost, if not, on par with the professional dancers with her. The song is also very catchy, I hope it gets remixed because it would be a good song in dance clubs. I will definitely buy her album!!!:)

I admit I didn’t like the song either when I just heard a clip of it, but after I listened to the full version I started to like it. I actually know who she is, but I’m not really a fan of hers. The song is a bit generic, but, unfortunately, in order for an Asian artist to have a chance in the States, the music they choose HAS to be consistant with what is popular - which means a bit of generic writing/production. What she’s doing is a really scary thing, can we name a successful Solo Asian artist in the American music industry? The fact she’s even trying, despite the fact she’ll be put under the microscope even harder because she’s Asian, is pretty admirable, whether she makes it or not.
For example, a lot of people are talking about her accent, though a lot of artists who have made it in the States have accents. T.a.T.u has an accent VERY close to hers, Shakira has a heavy Columbian accent, even Coldplay - who come from an English speaking country - have lyrics that are hard to understand because of the lead singers very thick English accent. Is it because she’s from Korea that she gets more scrutiny for not properly pronouncing her “r’s”? Strange, because some English accents and American accents (Boston, for example) don’t pronounce their R’s either.
As for the BoA; The song is catchy, if generic, and really gets stuck in your head. The singing is on par with songbirds like Ashlee Simpson, T.A.T.u, Hilary Duff, Britney Spears, etc… yes her voice is a little higher pitched, but she can’t help what her tone sounds like. The video is colorful and eye catching, the over the top effects both comical and irrverant (I do beleive that was the point) and her image is good. She isn’t scantily clad, maybe she’ll send a message to girls telling them you don’t have to dress like a ***** to get anything accomplished.
Overall thumbs up.
Oh, and to the BoA fans: don’t worry, the internet is negative by nature. Regardless of the intent of the posts; the more comments the better because any publicity is good publicity. :)

At first this song was bleh, lyrics aren’t that special but it had a good beat. But a while after i listend to it i started singing it lol and it grows on you. Just don’t take this song any deeper than its meant to be, it’s like Lady Gaga’s Just Dance, its a good dance song. I say she’s got a decent shot at it.

I dislike most of the lyrics to his English songs, and his debut has been delayed way too long. He’s also had too many song leaks. There’s been like 4, in my knowledge.

Honestly speaking, I’m not a fan of this song. Her voice has been digitised so much I can barely recognise it is her. The lyrics are appalling- definately not her best song. As for the Asian MV, I’m loving the choreography and how she is not exposing herself like some other celebrities. Britney dances a bit erotic and her songs well are okay (prefer her old 90s music) BoA first of all didn’t copy anybody if you wanna call her a copy cat then call those ppl who made the beat whoever those ppl are call. I have shown this song to all of my friends who have never heard of her they liked the song. Said it was fresh and the effects were nice. Yes she has some weakness but with some work I know she can make it. One her english isn’t that bad she has became prettty fluent recently bc she has been practicing. So yes she can communicate with her fans. She said herself she isn’t BoA of asian she is BoA coming in as an amature singer so she knows she needs to work. Give this girl a chance and stop staying bad **** about her. And oh this song is way better then womanizer btw.

Haha, actually, I’m white and I love BoA’s voice. I think her English isn’t that bad, and with some practice, it’ll definitely improve. The song is hot and doesn’t annoy me like a lot of pop/hip hop songs nowadays. Her dancing’s better than some American singers I see, so what the hell? BoA’s got a great shot at winning.
The Asian version is SOO MUCH better than the U.S version. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
This song sucks, the music, the lyrics, it’s truly TERRIBLE. If she wants to make her mark in the US market she should do better songs. And the American music video is horribly shot. They should shelve it and only use the Korean one, which is a pretty good video actually. However, it doesn’t change the fact that ‘Eat You Up’ is a bad song.
She should have released an English version of one her previous hits in her native country instead of a bad new song.

Well I have to say she would be better of without the boa feat. flo-rida remix. I head it and it sucks hardcore. The first version is fine and the dance remix is pretty good as well. Although this version is a nightmare and it is better off disappearing.

BOA sucks. period. I never really liked her, even when she first debuted in Korea. I personally think this new image is a disgrace to Korea. what an annoying self absorbed person…She is such a wannabe. previously…BOA and SM stated that they weren’t intending on entering the American market..this statement was made in 2007-08 And yet, she released her song in 2008. They’re liars. And they said that if they opportunity rises, then they’ll try to hack into the American chart. But if you think about it, there was really no reason for BOA to hold English interviews with American TV powerhouses (ie. CNN) unless SM was planning BOA’s debut out…and you can’t start planning to break into the American market in a few months…this takes YEARS…especially if you’re an overseas product

Hate the Wondergirls! They are not good at anything at all. Their music is not good at all. Not even catchy. BoA at least has style, good dance moves, and a better image than most Americans. I think this single is hot, but Americans like retarded music like “I’m a Give you Hell” and “If you seek Amy” Dumb, dumb songs…..But if BoA keeps trying and doesn’t give up, she can make her mark in America, Asian or not. She has to try to break the stereotypes, and make people realize they like people who speak worse English, like Shakira. Shakira SUCKS at English!

I love this girl. People will hate, but if anybody has what it takes its her. I don’t understand why people think she has to dress up like a **** to be famous. This girl dances better than any American girl artist since Janet Jackson. And her music is very good and catchy. If Shakira made it (with terrible english), then Boa definitely has what it takes….unless America still hasn’t grown out of its racist and nationalistic viewpoints.
