I hear your points, my concern with them is the lack of development in your thoughts. Let me address the issue of the slow erosion of the “pillars of our society” and the differences between Obama and Palin.

The idea that divorce has caused a breakdown in the family, as we had known it to be, is true. However, it does not run parallel to success in our country. We have grown to be a far more powerful and rich society even with the rise of divorce…including Black Americans despite your narrow view of them as a group.

Divorce has always been legal in the US, what has changed since the 1920’s contributing to the increase in divorce rates? The passing of civil liberties for women. Prior to the woman’s rights movement, women could not leave their husband because where would they go? They could not hold a job able to support themselves and their children, if the courts let her have the children since she was not equal in her rights to his. The standard option was to stay in the marriage even though she may be abused for example. With the empowerment of women, you are able to even write the email you wrote and attend what level of education you may have completed. Women have made our country an even stronger society with them in the workforce.

Now, instead of looking at the impact of divorce on our society, you should seek to find better ways of managing the outcome of the issue. With gay marriage as a potential societal challenge as you have projected, how do you think that will have any less of an impact as Civil Unions? We will simply have to deal with the children of these ‘Civil Unions’ who grow up in a family that is not equal in their communities and country. By the way there are over 5 countries, not 2 as you cited, that have legalized gay marriage.

We should look to create a society that limits the rhetoric surrounding differences and make sure we are recognized for being who we are even if it’s different from the norm.

I’m a Republican and what seems to be missing in my party is the insight to the changing world we are in. We are the party of change and Lincoln. We freed the slaves, we called for small government and limited government involvement in our lives. I return to my point in an earlier post. We have been accosted by this conservative religious right who think that we must all live as Christian Americans or we are unpatriotic or anti-American. Change is good! Let the gay’s marry! I think my wife and I will be just fine in our relationship and I hope if my son is gay his partner and he may one day marry. Maybe we will continue to grow as a country as we did when Black men were set free followed by our women..

I am just eager for a smart President again…it’s been too long. It is amazing how people look to Palin as a good option because she is like them and less educated than the other candidates. I for sure would prefer a leader smarter than myself.

like someone mentioned above. obama and biden are against gay marriage but they don’t plan to BAN gay marriage all together. thats the huge difference between them and sarah palin. even mccain isn’t favor of prop 8. only this ignorant ***** is. try reading the newspaper or watching the news, if you can’t even do that, do some little research before saying obama and biden are the same as sarah and that everyone overlooks the democrats.

CA, we have become a more successful society because there are more opportunities and because of technology, that has nothing to do with what is happening to us as human beings and the interaction of our society were drug and alcohol abuse, suicide, sexual transmitted diseases, sexual perversions, sexual abuse of children, depression and anxiety disorders, medication usage, plastic surgery, divorce, abortions, unhappiness have all risen in the last 60 years even as Westerner countries standard of living tripled since the 1940’s and physically we are more fit, we live 15 years longer and each of these years we have placed less value on religious beliefs, culture norms, family. We have been such a successful society that more people have been killed in this world in the 20th century through the two great wars, conflict, tyranny that the pervious 2000 years before and the best indicator of what a wasted society, especially Westerner culture has become is that we are not even producing our next generation, Europe, Japan, Canada each decade their population are declining and they need high immigration rates because they are out sourcing the next generation nation to other citizens around the world, and the the reason for divorce rates is, no-fault divorce, the birth control pill and the sexual and culture revolution which all happened in the late 60’s and 70’s, were liberals took over our culture were respect for our religion, family values and society norms were the thing of the past and you can do any thing you want, from having sex with anyone you want, to getting divorce ten times, to having children out of marriage, who even needs the father, to having abortions on demand and every decade it’s something new, now it will be gay marriage in states, then it will be gay marriage the law of the country and then in a few years they’ll think of another right that we as a society must grant.

Looking at the general state of marriage today, I don’t see why gay marriage should be banned on a federal level. For a party that wants less government control they sure sound devout in dictating how people should build a family. But nothing either side has done has cut down the number of divorces and rising number of single parents. By next year, if the economy doesn’t improve, we’ll see what really keeps families going in these difficult times.

Well, Ellen is gay, so of course she thinks it is right. It is an abomanation to God for a man to be with a man or a women to be with a women. Marriage, joins two people in the eyes of God, therefore, it SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL! I get so disgusted with the media, they are all for the gays so they only support the liberal democrats!
