There is a “sighting” from the week when Angelina was in NY in the Today show from Pagesix saying Angelina had dinner with her agent’s and lawyers and the poor demented thing thought it was from this week :lol: And her crazy head started making up her crazy stories :lol:

Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, and Josh Brolin have been honoured at this year’s Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala in Beverly Hills.

There are exemplary Clint Eastwood movies. “Unforgiven” falls into that category. So do “Mystic River” and “Million Dollar Baby.”

And then there are pictures directed by Eastwood that are well-crafted, solid pieces of work. “Changeling” is one of those.

It’s an admirable movie: deliberately paced, handsome to look at and well-acted, particularly in the lead role. But it lacks a certain spark, that extra something, call it an intensity of feeling and complexity of artistic vision, that Eastwood’s best works have and the rest don’t.

“Changeling” is a dark story, as are all of his better pictures made in what is now the autumn of his career. Life is hard in the world according to Eastwood. His protagonists are terribly tested, and happy outcomes are rare.

“Changeling” has a pallor to it. Washed-out blues and greens dominate the palette chosen by Eastwood and director of photography Tom Stern, who also bathed “Mystic River” and “Million Dollar Baby” in bleakness. It’s a fitting choice for a story about kidnapping, child murder, corruption and loss.

The script, by J. Michael Straczynski, is based on a true incident from the late 1920s and ’30s. It’s the story of an appalling miscarriage of justice. A 9-year-old boy, Walter Collins (Gattlin Griffith) vanishes from his Los Angeles home in March 1928. His mother Christine (Angelina Jolie) is frantic, but the police are less than helpful at first. They assure her most missing kids soon return home. Not this time. Months pass, and then a boy is found who the police say is Collins’ son. He’s not.

The police insist he is. Finding him is a big publicity coup for the headline-hungry department. The mother’s protestations to the contrary, they want a happy ending to this saga at any cost. The boy claims Collin is his mother for reasons she can’t fathom.

The cops pressure her to take him home. Alone (her husband abandoned her when the boy was born, and she seems to have no close friends) and dazed by developments, she consents. And once she has him at home, clear proofs that he’s not her child come quickly to light. For one thing, he’s several inches shorter than the real Walter.

The cops refuse to believe her. They accuse her of being delusional. They pack her off to a psychiatric hospital, drug her and otherwise abuse her and threaten to hold her there until she declares that the boy is hers. It’s a nightmare.

Meanwhile, on a parallel story track, a serial killer (Jason Butler Harner) is preying on young boys. The cops’ focus on Walter’s mother blinds them to the possibility that he could have been abducted by a murderer.

“Changeling” is a hair-raising feminist fable. A loving mother and a responsible member of the community (she’s a well-regarded supervisor at the city’s phone exchange), Collins is systematically denigrated and mercilessly bullied by male higher-ups in the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD of that era is depicted as a lawless organization, “violent, corrupt and incompetent” in the words of a crusading minister played by John Malkovich who becomes Collins’ main advocate.

It’s a most unequal battle, but as her mistreatment continues, Collins’ grief turns to defiance and determination to withstand the worst these domineering men can dish out.

The picture rises or falls on Jolie’s performance, and she’s never been better. The maternal tenderness she shows in the early scenes contains no hint of treacle, and the dismay she displays as Collins’ world is turned upside down and her integrity is impugned does not stray into showy histrionics. Under Eastwood’s steady-handed direction, Jolie reveals the woman’s strength of character gradually and with the utmost conviction.

The acting of the male members of the cast, most of them character actors and with the exception of Malkovich, none particularly well-known, is at best serviceable and a bit stolid. At worst, they’re grating. And the worst of the men is Jeffrey Donovan. Playing an LAPD captain who’s Collins’ chief tormentor, he gives a one-note performance as an overbearing bully.

The picture captures the period with a nice exactitude. Vintage cars and the red streetcars that became a symbol of the city back then evoke the era well.

At two hours and 21 minutes, “Changeling” feels a little long, but Jolie’s performance and Eastwood’s judicious handling of his material make it a movie not to be missed.

Angelina Jolie is the brash young rebel. Clint Eastwood is the wise, grizzled veteran.

The mix sounds like the foundation of a buddy-cop movie, but it summarizes the creative chemistry behind Eastwood’s “Changeling.” Jolie stars in the true story of a single mother searching for her kidnapped son in Depression-era Los Angeles after the wrong boy is returned to her.

It’s fitting that motherhood is central to Jolie’s role in the film. The actress and her brood of six with actor Brad Pitt have become a global sensation.

Fitting, too, what happened to her on the set. “I got pregnant during filming, yeah,” she says.

Eastwood, sitting beside her, looks stunned and says, “Don’t tell me on my watch!”

Though “Changeling” is a dark drama, Eastwood and Jolie together bring out each other’s playful sides. Eastwood jokingly calls their friendship “Clintalina.”

The director, 78, is famously mellow behind the camera, but his tough-guy bluntness was something Jolie, 33, preferred.

Jolie recalls shooting one pivotal scene: At a train station, the mother, Christine Collins, meets the boy who is pretending to be her son and is bullied by police into smiling for the cameras. “It was very frustrating,” Jolie says. “I couldn’t figure out how to do that scene. I kept thinking, ‘How do you respond to something like this? It’s not your kid, and somebody is telling you it’s your kid.’ ”

Eastwood recalled the scene with a touch of sarcasm: “I was a big help. I just said, ‘Do it! Just do it.’ ”

Jolie tells him, “You don’t give yourself enough credit. You said to me something like, ‘She must be thinking this is a (expletive) joke.’ It was a great piece of directing! That little bit of help. I thought, ‘It is that way! It must be some kind of cruel joke.’ ”

Eastwood and Jolie say “Changeling” celebrates the virtue of disobedience.

“I think that’s just part of growing up,” Jolie says. “You learn to question your parents, you learn to question your teachers. It’s the evolution of trying to find your way and not just let any one person or one entity tell you exactly how you should think or feel about anything.”

Jolie says it wasn’t necessary to draw on her own maternal instincts for “Changeling.” Quite the opposite: She tried not to think of her own children.

To play Collins, Jolie instead drew on another part of her life: her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007.

“Christine is very much like my mother, who was very soft and soft-spoken, and it was hard for her to get angry and fight for something. But she would do anything for her children.”

Eastwood, of course, believes in Jolie’s talent, but even he was wary of her presence at first.

“When we were going to start this film, I thought ‘Here is somebody who is on the cover of every magazine, and she gets a tremendous amount of attention, she and Brad (Pitt) together, but by herself as well.’ I thought, ‘This person could be a real jaded creature.’ But she isn’t. She’s very normal. I joke with her. I called her Angie Dickinson all the time, and she never got upset.”

Jolie lets Eastwood have it with both barrels. “He is, to me, very much the ideal man. Maybe it’s generational, but I think we could use more of it. He is absolutely who he is. He doesn’t apologize to anybody. He has very, very strong, decisive opinions and is very gracious as a man, as a friend and somebody on set as a director.”

She is the most beautiful woman ever and she looks truly happy - her eyes are smiling! I love everything about her.

Bill and Melinda Gates live quite well but they also are very mindful of using a portion of their wealth to help humanity. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have an enviable lifestyle but, they too, use their money to make others’ lives easier and better. There are lists of people who help make the world a better place through charitable giving.

You know, I think you’re on to something. I think Angelina so totally missed having a ‘father figure,’ present in her life that when she meets older men who appreciate, and respect and have her back - she just loves them - you can see it in her face, just this total unabashed respect and love. There’s something about the way she is around Eastwood, and Oliver Stone - you saw it with James Lipton of Inside the Actor’s Studio (and if you read his book, he fell in love with her too) that makes you realize all that she missed not having a permanent and present father.

What’s even more striking is all that Jon Voight missed not having her as permanent and present daughter. It’s sad. Just when I had hoped, Voight would maintain his reticence about speaking publicly about their status, which he has, for the most part been pretty good of late - when he talks he wished them the best, he wishes them happiness and health, he doesn’t make himself out to be a victim of them - but then at the same time, you see the guy, wholeheartedly become uber-public and a big mouthpiece and attack dog for Mccain. I bet AJ and James were like wtf??

Now I’m all for his right as an American to exercise and support his candidacy. But to play the Republican ‘pittbull,’ against Obama in op-eds, like AJ has done for refugees - literally turned my stomach. Not just because he is, in my opinion, on the wrong side, and tragically so - but mainly because I truly felt that his number one priority would be in thinking of all the ways that would better serve his becoming part of Angie and James’ lives. To me, it just seemed he was /is doing the opposite by becoming such a central Hollywood figure endorsing McCain, and doing it by slamming Obama.

Just when you think he might be coming around, the guy hauls off and can be such a perverse individual. It’s this instability, this drama queen aspect of his personality that makes her wary of him - she knows she can’t really count on him to do the right thing. It’s almost like he does these things deliberately to make his kids shy away from him. Like take all those outings with the blonde ‘goddaughter,’ in her early twenties. If you are interested in makinga mends with your estranged daughter and son, do you constantly go on public appearances with some girl whose trying to desperately make it in the business. Do you think that’s the way to get closer to your OWN kids, who you abandoned and who you deliberately gave middle names to use as last names, so that they wouldn’t be dependent on your fame to get in the door. Yet you are literally pulling strings and working your asss off for some young blonde?? Yeah, that will get you closer to your grandkids Jon Voight. LOL

That’s why I think when Angelina meets older men, that she respects and can count on, or Brad, the man she respects and is in love with that she knows she can count on - she is just head over heels. She may be the most photographed woman in the world. But even Angelina Jolie can fly under the radar.

The actress – who recently returned from a humanitarian mission in Afghanistan – made a surprise appearance at Monday night’s Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala, where she payed tribute to director Clint Eastwood.

In fact, Jolie’s appearance was so unexpected, the A-list crowd gasped audibly when she was introduced.

The mother-of-six took time out of her busy schedule to present Eastwood – who helmed her most recent move, The Changeling – with the director of the year award.

“There are some people in this business that are icons, and we often wonder if, when we meet them, they’ll live up to what we imagine them to be,” she told the audience. “And Clint Eastwood in person is even better.”

“Clint is what every great director should be,” she continued. “He is a great leader. And I certainly would follow him anywhere.”

That admiration appears to be mutual.

As he accepted the honor, Eastwood noted, “Working with someone like Angelina Jolie is a great privilege, because you get to look on that gorgeous beauty every day. And she’s a great talent.”

The two walked arm-in-arm from the stage. Then Jolie, wearing a floor-sweeping black gown and minimal makeup, slipped out of the event as stealthily as she’d arrived.

Changeling is starting this weekend. The whole family is going to see it. I can’t wait.

clint was the ’surprise’ guest who was keep under wraps for that santa barbara film festival that honoured angelina in, was it early 2008, when angelina sat on a stage and talked about her flims, pet rats etc. i think she wore a black top and reddish long floral skirt. mentioned she was fond of one of the producers! (brad) .anyway, angelina was just returning the compliment to clint. after ny today show, angelina went back to berlin. onto afganistan, then either back to berlin and then to L.A (unlikely) or back to berlin via L.A.

Prince Philip has labelled promoting tourism akin to “national prostitution” in his latest embarrassing gaffe, according to British media reports.

The comments came during his visit with the Queen to Slovenia last week.

Prince Philip made the comments to Dr Maja Uran, associate professor of tourism at the University of Primorska, in Slovenia.

Dr Uran, quoted in Britain’s Daily Mail, said the Prince remarked that “tourism is just national prostitution” and that “we don’t need any more tourists. They ruin cities”.

“I couldn’t quite believe he used that word and we all collapsed in embarrassment,” Dr Uran said.

The Duke of Edinburgh has a history of gaffes on tour. Over the years, he has offended a range of nationalities and ethnic groups.

On an Australian visit in 2002, he asked an Aborigine whether tribes still throw spears at each other.

In 1986 he described Beijing as ghastly and told British students in the city: “If you stay here much longer, you’ll all be slitty-eyed.” In 1995, he asked a Scottish driving instructor how he kept his students off the booze long enough to pass the test.

In 1981, during a recession in Britain, he said: “Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed.”

He also reportedly asked a student who walked the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea: “You managed not to get eaten then?”

I would have to agree. Angelina looks different in these photos. She looks more natural. Not as much in your face glamor but natural. What is wrong w/ that??? I still think Angelina looks good. I have to say Angelina has unbelievable energy and looks great! I’m a mother of a 6 and 5 year old, and a baby of 2 months and I am so exhausted; but as mothers, we keep going and going and going. Not only is she a dedicated mother, but the fact that she’s able to get out and work for her causes and walk the red carpet looking like that…amazing! Good for her!

So glad angie was able to be there to honor Clint. He is as in love with her as everyone else who meets her, they just seem to fall under her spell. She is as beautiful on the inside as on the outside and people respond to that. Yes Brad is lucky-but they are lucky to have each other.
I agree jen is a has been, her 15 min. have been up and I can’t wait till she stops getting publicity for doing nothing but sleeping around and being a doormat. Hi all the fellow JP fans,

Don’t get mad but I don’t think this is her best look. She is beautiful as always, she could be nothing less. But I don’t like the flat hair, or part or something. Anyway, enough of that, I will be seeing Changeling Friday. I’m going right after work. I had planned on seeing it last week, but it was not showing here. I have been on JJB and they are taking about the Screen average for the movie is really great considering it was only in 15 theaters ( or something like that).

I think John V. must be going crazy. Angie and Clint seem to have established a great repoire. Like a Father/Daughter. I wondered if she was missing that relationship, and is finding it in Clint. Her father must miss her, but I do realize that sometimes we say and do things that seem unforgivable. Maybe in time they will bridge the gap More.

What IS his problem w/ her because there is so much bitterness and just nasty comments slung her way. I’m talking columns. It’s weird that as a gossip columnist he has such a hate for Angie and viciously and personally slams everything about her almost every day.

Is this Ted person on Jen’s payrole?

He acts exactly as some Angie super enamored frustrated admirer who fantasize about possessing her day and night but is too damn juvenile and scared to admit it ! He is into Angie so deeply that viciously so that she respond and gives him a minimum of attention. Well too bad, little retarded boy, Angie is playing in the adult sphere, not in the boyish playground by ignoring him, she drives him nuts and owns him ! Game set and match ! But he is so damn stupid to even realise it !

Angie rocks. She is such an inspiration to so many people all over the world. She looks great and the kids and Brad all look so happy and normal. It must be so fun having a large family. Just wait until the holidays. Mega fun and chaos!!
I hope the movie is a great success.
BTW Clint and Angie do look good together. You can tell they admire and respect one another. Clint is a great role model for Angie and Brad.

From what I can see, Angelina just spent 4-5 days DOING HER JOBs (LA tribute to Clint Eastwood + Afghanistan UNHCR) and the rest of the month, she was at home.
For those 4-5 days, she probably had some of her kids with her.
The rest of the time, she is with her family.

So I don’t see a problem here.

Your mom probably worked 8-10 hours/day. If YOU are a mom, you’re probably a working stiff and spend less time with your kid than Angelina does.

The mother of six and Brad Pitt’s baby momma made a very surprise appearance last night at the Hollywood Film Festival’s Gala Ceremony in Beverly Hills.

And the reason for her appearance? To pay tribute to director Clint Eastwood.

Angie had the honor of of presenting Eastwood, who worked with her in her latest flick The Changeling, with the director of the year award. And she even had some lovely words for him.

She told the audience, “There are some people in this business that are icons, and we often wonder if, when we meet them, they’ll live up to what we imagine them to be. And Clint Eastwood in person is even better. Clint is what every great director should be. He is a great leader. And I certainly would follow him anywhere.”

And it seems the two grew fond of each other.

As he accepted his award Eastwood said, “Working with someone like Angelina Jolie is a great privilege, because you get to look on that gorgeous beauty every day. And she’s a great talent.”

Taking time out her of overly busy schedule for this? Ange is just too good!

Hey to all the fans. Hope everyone is doing well. I am not really crazy about Angie’s hair color either, but I think I understand it. She is so busy that she probably wants to get back to her original color- lower maintenance for a busy mother of 6. But that is trivial. She looks happy and I love the relationship that she seems to have developed with Clint. He is one of my favorite directors. Can’t wait to see the movie!!!
