Brad Pitt is Benjamin Button
A motorcycle-riding Cate Blanchett holds onto costar Brad Pitt in this new still from their upcoming movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. (They both look so gorgeous in the rehearsal shot below!)
Benjamin Button, out Christmas Day, is about a man who ages in reverse. As he grows younger, his love (Blanchett) grows older. Here’s a snippet from the NYT article:
Benjamin, as he says in his voice-over narration, “was born under unusual circumstances” on Nov. 11, 1918, the last day of World War I. As the doctor attending him describes the strange little creature, “He has all the deterioration, the infirmities, not of a newborn, but of a man well in his 80s on the way to his grave.”

I just want to say that I never met Angie, but from the multiple interviews she gave and I probably read all of them, she is a women that thinks with her heart, and that she understands that a relationship with another person is more than sex and being together,

Why do people have to drink till they’re drunk. I drink my wine mixed with water, so I’ve never been drunk, and unless I change drastically, I’ll never be drunk. I’ve seen female friends drink way too much. Not pretty!

From what I’ve read so far of snippets regarding Brad’s interview with Oprah, I have a queasy feeling things are not the same between Brad and Angie. Granted, Brad is not as open as Angie. He seems to think twice and hard before he says or maybe he’s shy from public forum?. I’m disappointed in him a bit when he answered back to Oprah “Dare I say” about relationship with Angie!!! WTF?? Why didn’t he take the opportunity and says to world once and for all that Angie is the love of his life??

This was Brad’s opportunity to say before the largest audience in the world that she was the love of his life or that he loved her or that he was the happiest he’s ever been and he didn’t. He’s been able to say those kinds of thing about Jen and Gwen before. So why not her? The loons will never answer that question because they don’t want to think about the answer. He didn’t have to jump up on the couch, but he could have said the words out of his own mouth and he took a pass. That was the sorriest, weakest response to that kind of question and I think Oprah set his ass up in a passive aggresive way

I’m always amazed when people say that the financial crisis was brought on by the Clinton policies. Now it may be true that you can trace particular policies to the Clinton days. But policies, like CARS require active management. Bush and his administration got handed the CAR keys back in 2008, and for 6 years controlled Congress (and if I”m not mistaken, the Senate) and managed in 8 years, to drive the CAR to the brink of an abyss.
One of my girlfriends told me that in this Obama/Biden and Mccain/Palin election, it was like a group of close girl friends who see one of their member fall for a guy and thinks that he is the one. Everyone else in this close group of friends think, ‘NO way. That guy isn’t right for her!!” And these friends might even tell this friend what they think of the Guy. But of course, in the end, what can anyone do? Nothing. This woman has to make her choices, you try to be supportive, and you hope it ends well.
But have you ever been in the situation where you are that woman who thinks that this guy is the one and when the relationship falls to pieces, your friends gather round and say - “We knew it, but we couldn’t say it?” Or ” We told you but you wouldn’t listen!!”. And you think, “Damn, I should have paid a little more attention, given a little more credence to the warnings my friends gave me?”
Well, I don’t know if any American took into account the hopes and fears of its allies in this election - probably very very few - which is perfectly understandable. :lol: But America’s allies are relieved all the same.
There are areas when the world’s interests and American interests will diverge. I don’t think any leader of an American Ally expects America to sacrifice its own interests for an Ally’s interests.
But there are many instances when the interests of America and its allies converge or at least overlap. For example, the area of environment is clearly one of them.
America is a still a world leader in science. If America does aggressively research Green energy and through this research, reduces its dependance on oil, it benefits America - no argument there. But it also benefits the most of America’s allies and the world. In the long term, it would even benefit countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuala, Russia and Nigeria which oil wealth supports corrupt or regressive regimes.
Which is why, Obama’s and Mccains responses in one of the debates were so telling. Mccain wanted to keep his tax cuts and save by cutting spending - except on the war. Obama, with fewer tax cuts and more room to maneuveur, said that instead of halting spending, he would use a scapel (sp??) to cut out some spending but maintain spending on things like research for green energy.
It is well recognised that public spending in our universities on basic, up stream research is essential to push the outer limits of science. Fruit Fly research, Zebra Fish research, research into single cell organisms like amoebas, have all contributed to directly into the betterment of our lives. Much of the research in its basic up stream form were undertaken in university laboratories, published in escoteric journals and conferences. One chappie I know has spent years studying the secretion mechanisms of some single cell organisms,funded by small grants etc.. Pretty esoteric wouldn’t you say?
But lately, there’s been interest in his work because there is talk of genetically engineering some other single cells organisms which can convert organic matter into bio fuel and secreting the oil which would then be skimmed off dramatically reducing the cost of production.
Most companies will not spend money on upstream research to study the secretion of single cell organisms. which merely pushes the boundaries of knowledge without an obvious commercial outcome. Most companies, can’t afford to do this sort of research. Perhaps one day, this chappie’s research will lay the ground work for how all bio fuel is harvested. That would be pretty amazing use of public spending eh??
