Brad Pitt is Benjamin Button

Brad Pitt is Benjamin Button

A motorcycle-riding Cate Blanchett holds onto costar Brad Pitt in this new still from their upcoming movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. (They both look so gorgeous in the rehearsal shot below!)

Benjamin Button, out Christmas Day, is about a man who ages in reverse. As he grows younger, his love (Blanchett) grows older. Here’s a snippet from the NYT article:

Benjamin, as he says in his voice-over narration, “was born under unusual circumstances” on Nov. 11, 1918, the last day of World War I. As the doctor attending him describes the strange little creature, “He has all the deterioration, the infirmities, not of a newborn, but of a man well in his 80s on the way to his grave.”

“One of my girlfriends told me that in this Obama/Biden and Mccain/Palin election, it was like a group of close girl friends who see one of their member fall for a guy and thinks that he is the one. Everyone else in this close group of friends think, ‘NO way. That guy isn’t right for her!!” And these friends might even tell this friend what they think of the Guy. But of course, in the end, what can anyone do? Nothing. This woman has to make her choices, you try to be supportive, and you hope it ends well.”
Hi lylian,
good analogy and good advice.
Hi to Orchid and the ménage a trois.

Tru dat.

Again, I say that any rapport Oprah cultivated with Pitt is gone. This Brad Pitt, that haters are criticizing, sounds a lot like the Brad Pitt from 1998.

And haters aren’t helping their cause by throwing Will Smith into the fray. I saw him on Oprah today and quite frankly, everything he said and did seems awfully familiar. He talked about how turning 40 makes him want to do more for others (sounds like BP in ‘04); he blatantly, and uncomfortably, flirted with Rosario Dawson (much like Travolta and Tyler Perry do with Oprah); he discussed how his kids negotiated the allowance his oldest son should get (much like Cruise); and gushed about his wife (like Cruise and Travolta).

No doubt that Will Smith have the wherewithall to begin an charitable endeavor with his own money, but how much you wanna bet that if he follows through on it, it will be in conjunction with Oprah?

Now, I am not discouraging anyone from loving Oprah - hell, it’s your funeral, but I do think that it’s telling that there is a definite divide in who (in terms of male actors) can and will make regular trips to Oprah.

Sorry, skippy, but I don’t make deals with trolls. My mama always told me, “PT, don’t make deals with internet trolls. They can’t be trusted.” Considering the internet was in its infancy when I was a kid…I’d say my mama is pretty damned smart herself. Psychic, too.

The trouble with Sarah is not that she is a woman but she is the wrong type of woman. Let’s be clear, I think Palin achievement to Governor of Alaska is impressive for her but she is NOT a feminist.

She is not a woman who will fight for women’s rights. She’s in a party that is anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-pay-equality and generally bad for women. Having women in positions in power is crucial to empowering women more broadly and openly. But it is not synonymous with feminism. More importantly, when those women anti-feminist ideologies are in direct contrast to the very idealism of feminism it is “anti-feminism” not new.

This so called term being coined by the right-wing side, the “new feminism, is nothing more but the same old anti-feminist idealims. It is nothing more than the “same-old” labelled as “new.” Just because you say she is a governor with power does not make her a feminist. She is a dangerous mediocre woman in power. A barbie “maverik”, you betcha, hockey mom and

Femisism is more than just empowering, it is about women rights in all forms. Palin does not represent women in that way at all. She is about limiting our power and our resources.

Now I don’t agree with the way some of the RNC have been throwing “her under a bus” today. How hypocritical can you be, you selected her, courted her, formed her and paraded her around as the new right wing girl power, now you want to throw her out. I am not buying it, that is not cool.

Speaking of the tab interns slash trolls -

Let’s all take a moment to congratulate them. They’ve had a very successful week leading up to the new issues that came out yesterday.

1. Star - Reports those pesky “insiders” say that Angie flew back to LA alone because she was mad at Brad flirting with Diane Kruger. They also say that Brad flew back to LA, WITH THE KIDS, to apologize for flirting with Kruger and beg forgiveness. Nevermind the fact that there are pix of Brad at LAX…ALONE. But hey…their intern/troll did their job last week and to spread the story that Angie ran back to LA to get away from Brad’s skirt-chasing and therefore Star is able to quote an “insider” who confirms their story. Nice how that works out, ain’t it?

2. Then we move on to the OuttaTouch intern/troll who spent the week between issues spreading tales that Brad’s a drunkard and partying too much in Berlin and that’s why Angie left for LA. So of course this week’s OuttaTouch “insider” claims that Brad is drinking too much and Angie’s pissed about it.

So you see…the interns/trolls had a very productive 7 days planting bullshit on the blog. Makes me wonder how many of these jackasses the tabs employ at the various blogs and fan forums…

Didn’t AJ herself call Africa a country? You don’t know, then you learn, then you know!

I’m not surprised! Having visited the US many times, and having lived there, I know that for a lot of Americans, the US is THE world, and I’m absolutely convinced that many Americans don’t know that Africa is not a country, and won’t be able to identify a few African countries.
I think 9/11 made many Americans realize for the first time that there is a world out there.

As for the future, nobody knows it, except those with crystal balls, like the FFers.

I don’t quibble over Palin’s right to run for anything. I don’t care about that, but an assertion that she’s the most popular governor based on some poll?
I read that she does have a very high approval rating in her state. 80%? I don’t know how it compares to all the other governors.

There’s roughly 650,000 people in Alaska and over 12 million in the state of NY. Saying she’s more popular than Paterson is just silly. That’s no way to measure anyone’s qualifications for office.
??? Surely the poll that matters is the poll in the state one is governor of. Why should SP be popular in NY or Paterson be popular in Alaska?

The fact is - the woman made quite a number of intellectually puzzling claims during her candidacy.
Biden has said some very silly things too, for somebody who has been a senator for a hundred years.

That’s far too similar to Dubya for me.
He was elected, twice!!! It proves that you don’t need to be Einstein to get elected.

If the election were Paterson versus Palin and the one with the most votes in their home state wins…then Palin gets blown out of the water unless half of NY votes for her. Half of one of the most populace states in the country…who’ve never heard of the woman and she’d have to convince them to vote for her. Chances are that more than half of that 50% aren’t going to like her or trust her for various reason, so she automatically loses the election. Putting it in those terms makes any kind of poplularity claim unrealistic.
Read this paragraph again! One candidate is from a state with a small population, and the other candidate is from a state with a large population, and the winner will be the one with the most votes in their home state. ??? I’m glad that kind of election will never happen. It’s so silly to put it in those terms. I know you said ‘If,’ but I don’t see why you even did that.

Dare I say all is right with the world. Trolls v Fans going at it one more time saying the same shite one more time. I think it really is time for the ‘ice’ treatment ……..totally ignoring them. No response ruins their game. This gets said over and over on this blog, yet everyone still takes the bait. Interesting. We should learn from Brad and do the total shut out.

Groundcontrol, good post.
A different perspective…sent to me by an avid feminist NWPC activist.
“In 1977, Bella Abzug, the former congresswoman and outspoken feminist, said, “Our struggle today is not to have a female Einstein get appointed as an assistant professor. It is for a woman schlemiel to get as quickly promoted as a male schlemiel.”

In other words: women will truly have arrived when the most mediocre among us will be able to do just as well as the most mediocre of men.

By this standard, the watershed event for women this year was not Hillary Clinton’s near ascendancy to the top of the Democratic ticket, but Sarah Palin’s nomination as the Republicans’ No. 2.”

Thanks for that link, FALP! I agree with Bella Abzug. I don’t believe HRC when she said that she won’t run again. I think she should.
Somebody on TV (must be a psychic) said that there will be three women competing in 2012.

Hi Orchid,
if you return to this thread…article was an interesting one…had forgotten about Bella’s quote but it fits in this scenario. Feminism is so dimensional and with so many mini-ideals and goals, but it’s more clear what it is NOT. Too many try to “peg” the concept into one niche which certainly cannot be done.
Hope you are well. We never seem to be on at the same time.

Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of sexual equality. I don’t think we can accuse SP of being for women earning less than men for doing the very same thing, for example. IMO, people who say she is not a feminist should think again.

Expectations are high. I saw this ‘live’ on election day. Here it is on video. I hope he doesn’t disappoint this woman and I don’t know how many like her. She sounds so happy and expects a lot from BHO. He calls himself a ‘mutt.’ Well, let’s hope the ‘mutt’ can deliver.

Saw ‘W’ on TV by mistake. I mean I usually switch to another channel as soon as I see him, but I had my hands full. He sure has aged in office.

FALP, I hope you remember to come back to this thread.

I can’t believe how people can bash SP, as if they’re so perfect. If the story is true that she didn’t know Africa is a continent, she knows it now. What about BO who, I understand, thought/said there were 57 states. He knows better now too.

People can be so ugly. If McCain had won, they would have praised SP. It’s always like that. One day they put you on a pedestal, the next day they crucify you.

I think they (Washingtonians) don’t like her because she’s an outsider, not ‘one of them.’
Who knows how she’ll do in the future. I read that 8 years ago, when W took office, BO could not win a congressional race!
It’s up to her. Maybe she was sometimes too cute for the hoity-toity people of Washington during the campaign, and sounded too ‘folksy,’ but she draws great crowds who love her, and I agree with what Colin Powell said (in that article you posted).
It’s just that people take care of number one first. Always. The pocket is most important! See the video in the link I posted.

BO’s people certainly felt threatened by SP, which is why they bashed her so much. I kept thinking, hey, they must have forgotten that she is running for Veep.

I wonder how General Motors is doing!

“I hope he doesn’t disappoint this woman and I don’t know how many like her.”

wow, wow, wow, geez Orchid, what can I say about people like her…my only comment is “ignorance is truly bliss” for now, but that is what keeps her going and when she falls she hopefully will have a built in justification for her disappointment. You and I both could be really cruel here re: that video IMO was made to clearly make fun of her and people like her but I don’t think either of us are mean. However in “our reality,” it is a sad fact that there are many like her. One feels helpless in an attempt to either educate those like her resulting in no hope or to patronize them with a lie. No doubt IMO her line of thinking aka the blurred distinction between reality and what she wants to believe or hope is what got Obama elected plus the non-black guilt “thing”. I know of people who voted for BO just because he was black…end of decision.

Re: “Expectations are high”
they are soaring and will come down with a thud. Obama’s problem is that he was so effective with his “gospel approach” to speeches that he has left little leeway for disappointment and the only “out” is “blame.” But now that he is elected he deserves his chance and there has already been some positivity in the fact that a minority won the highest official level in the US although anyone in their right mind knows that “a President” doesn’t have total power other than persuasion to effect “change”…in fact there is the joke that for years Greenspan really ran the economics of the country and in turn greatly influenced the world’s economics and therefore the prosperity. He was jokingly referred to as the man with the real power.
Re: “Saw ‘W’ on TV by mistake. I mean I usually switch to another chan”nel as soon as I see him, but I had my hands full. He sure has aged in office. “
I remember saying the same thing about Clinton towards the end of his term.
Here we are again, Orchid, the only two left on this thread…it’s actually a good thing. I was holding on to that link for you but didn’t want to post it because the timing was never right and you know the blog police is ever-watching LOL. Plus we don’t seem to be on at the same time…btw do you live in the US or have you ever lived in the US? If not where do you reside? I know you are a very private person which I respect. I enjoy the fact that JP fans are from all over the world.

“I can’t believe how people can bash SP, as if they’re so perfect.”

Totally agree. I personally don’t think individuals necessarily with the most education are the smartest. I highly value education AND experience together but clearly there are individuals who have both and are amazingly shallow and incompetent.

Re: “If the story is true that she didn’t know Africa is a continent, she knows it now. What about BO who, I understand, thought/said there were 57 states. He knows better now too. “

I didn’t hear that about Obama. And Reagan was no genius and was elected President because he played the all American good guy in movies. It seems in particular, some women as indicated on jj’s threads are offended by the “beauty queen” image…don’t know why…it may go back to an archaic “jealously backlash” that smart, intelligent accomplished women who have “power” in a high elected office should be plain and bookish and would “die rather than be in a beauty pageant”…similar to the generalization that blondes are dumber than brunettes. AND speaking of “generalizations”…I could not believe the exchange you had with TLOL1365…I was irritated with her posts, I almost nailed her for her ageist remarks related to another post she wrote but didn’t want to experience “jared frustration in moderation” because of a silly rant on my part. TLOL1365’s thought process reminded me of “troll-like” thinking in that she was highly speculative incorporating sweeping blatant generalizations but highly conclusive in her mind with little to back it up…bleh, blah, boo. I think she totally misunderstood your post or only wanted to read into it what she thought. There was no way she was going to allow you your say.
I think GM will get some bail-out money. The good aspect of the current state of the US economy/financial crisis is that maybe it was time to weed out and re-invent broken systems. IMO I know many will disagree but Bush and Bernanke have already instigated major “change”…any improvements with the new Presidency are NOT necessarily due to Obama, (nor McCain if he had been elected) but Obama will get the credit for this “change”. Bush’s legacy unfortunately for him will always be the Iraq war and the financial crisis of 2008. He will not get any credit for any positive changes in the US economy hereafter once Obama takes over even though major changes have already begun. The mass American public always responds to, demands and expects “instant gratification” but the majority lack depth in their impatience and ability to see through the veil and go deeper.
