Outrage is not enough.
That’s pretty appaling in 2008 not to be able to handle a gay relationship. I love Grey’s and having read the interview, it seems the decision did come from ABC and not Shonda, so I guess their hands were tied.

The only plus would be Callie and Mark now getting together, otherwise, this could be a nightmare.

I can understand cutting the character based singly off of the development but it’s sad that ABC can’t handle “explicit” homosexual situations better but is perfectly fine with them on ABC FAMILY. A bit hypocritical.

Can’t say I’m upset, it did make me uncomfortable watching those 2, but more than that, Hahn was just way too abrasive to be likable…

Their storyline didn’t bother me, but I hate her character! From the above posts, many people feel the same way about the character.

I never liked Hahn either. She was always so mean and rude to Cristina. And the whole gay relationship– it seemed to be all thrown together and shoved down our throats. I’m sure they lost a lot of viewers because of it.

I hated Erica too, and there was no chemistry between her and Callie. I hope Callie and Mark get together!

YES!!!!!! Just when I was about to throw in the towel with Grey’s, it redeems itself. I’ve never liked Erica, and the relationship between her and Callie just makes me want to throw up. If I wanted to see an explicit lesbian relationship, I’d watch The L Word. Words cannot even DESCRIBE my joy at reading this. I was becoming so outraged with Callie’s personality now, and I knew she wasn’t feeling the Callica. Call me what you wish, I’ve NEVER been comfortable with that storyline. But HALLELUJAH, THE CLOUDS FINALLY PART!! =DDD

cutiepie, christina has been a character that had proper character development, the viewer has been able to see different sides of her personality, thus they have been able to feel for her; not so much can be said about dr. hahn.

Shocked that she was fired. I hated Erica and based on this thread, not many people liked her anyway. So ABC having a problem with the character in general, not the lesbian relationship, may be true. If the audience hates a character, it’s not unusual for the character to be written off.

This is ridiculous. Grey’s is already slipping and them having a gay relationship is the most interesting thing going for this show. I don’t like that fact they can’t settle on a official cast. What’s up with the newbie Rambo doctor? I thought he was hot when he was a possible but now he’s a possible permanent I can’t handle it. This whole show is starting to lose my viewership. I’ve been a faithful viewer since the beginning. They dropped Berk which was enemy number 1 but he brought the spice to the show. Dropped Denny which was the only pivotal thing that’s happened on the show since but now they keep bringing him up again. I’ll take my chances with getting some Denny viewing every once and a while but now its seems like a desperate attempt to keep viewers happy but the only thing that would make me happy is a stable cast so I can remember their names and personalities. I’ve never liked Hahn but her with Callie balances the show in a way of sanity (sort of) and if she gets the boots it will go down hill.

OK. No offense, while I didnt mind so much the homosexual relationship it was just TOO much into the sexual aspect of it for me. Plus Hahn was just so unattractive as a person to me I didnt enjoy watching her period. They just didnt figure out how to utilize her character very well.

I hope they bring Isaiah back after Yang falls for the New Doctor.

anyone notice how they unusually rolled the credits after thursdays episode and there were no scenes for next week? It felt like a series finale.

at least mary mcdonnell’s gonna take her place. that’s a plus

she just moved her family to California. you all are being so selfish saying you’re happy because you didn’t like the character. who gives a **** about the implications this has on the show - think real world people. we live in a place where it’s acceptable to fire someone from a tv show for simply playing a homosexual character. your first response to this shouldn’t concern the plot of the show…

I never really liked Hahn but Brooke Smith is a good actress and deserved some common courtesy. And also BOO to abc for being hypocritical. Brothers and Sisters has a gay storyline were the two men are married! I read an article that basically it boils down to Hahn (Brooke Smith) wasn’t pretty enough to be a lesbian on network tv. I also read that Melissa George who was to play the new bisexual intern has been changed to straight. Its straight up homophobia people in 2008 and thats just sad.

OK. First of all they boot Dr. Burke aka Isiah Washington for telling T.R Knight that he is gay and for making homophobic comments on set, yet when the cant comes out of the bag and a gay couple decide to literally come out ON SET AGAIN they fire the main character involved???? HOW HYPOCRITICAL!!!! The show was better with Dr Burke at least, not to be against gay rights or anything but I do miss his character and ABC need to get their views straight before hiring another person!

WOW- I loved her character of Erica Hahn. Do people really believe it is that easy to be a female cardiac surgeon (there are so few), let me tell you from experience surgeons are as tuff as nails!

I am shocked that in 2008 ABC/Walt Disney can support pre-marital sex and infidelity, but go running and screaming into the hills when the idea that a gay relationship show kissing and sleeping together. Brooke Smith is a fabulous actress who did her homework…….I will miss her, as I did love her tough as nails character.

Next time anyone meets a female surgeon, take note how “touchy, feely” they are, I guess we just can’t get over the idea that confident, intelligent woman swimming upstream in a male dominated profession are nothing but “*******.”

If people wanted to slap her character that means she did her job as an actress. I personally feel that she brought some depth to a show that should have “hung it up” a year or so ago.
I wish her well and will miss her great acting.

I don’t think they portrayed the Hahn/Torres relationship as anything anywhere *near* real - no matter what Shonda’s said about doing “research” - so it’s no wonder the relationship ended before it began. It came across as strained and hard to watch because it HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW IT REALLY IS BETWEEN TWO WOMEN, whether they start out gay or not. Geez, the dead could see that.

Chrome-plated ***** though she was, I believe Hahn had potential and so did the relationship, and I’m sorry to see the demise of both.

I feel the worst for Brooke Smith, that’s for sure. I hope she vows never to do anything for ABC again.

I didn’t really have a problem with her. The gay thing was kind of a shock at first but I just got used to it. I feel bad for her, cause she was just doing what she was told. Oh well…but it’s true, there were too many characters.
