Kate Winslet bares it all for the December 2008 issue of Vanity Fair, which hits shelves November 11. Here’s what the 33-year-old British actress says in the mag:
On her fashion sense: “I often look at women who wear great jeans and high heels and nice little T-shirts wandering around the city and I think, I should make more of an effort. … But then I think, they can’t be happy in those heels.”
On her body: “This is going to sound really weird, but I never had a desire to be famous. I never had huge ambitions - never. I was fat. I didn’t know any fat famous actresses. I just did not see myself in that world at all, and I’m being very sincere. You know, once a fat kid, always a fat kid. Because you always think that you just look a little bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else.”

huh? Lilly she looks the same without makeup. She’s probably the most naturally beautiful actress because every pic of her out and about without makeup she still looks glowing. For the clueless person who said that Vanity fair has been getting political go back to sleep. Vanity fair is about global issues, high society and their scandals and fashion. What magazine have you been reading?

Pen do you know anything about Catherine Deneuve? Uh this is based on her famous film Belle Du Jour. Her iconic roll as a lady of the night. Vanity Fair always does tastefully bare photospreads. Remember the Scarlett Johansson/Keira Knightley one. Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, Kate Moss. They always do this. What the hell are some of you people on about? Don’t get self-righteous here. This photo shoot is completely tasteful.
Why is it that whenever someone like Angelina Jolie or Vanessa Hudgens are photoshopped to death on a magazine, people reply with: “STUNNING! AMAZING! SHE’S FLAWLESS.”, but when someone like Kate Winslet, who rarely does magazine covers, it’s like a travesty?
I like this retro blonde look. It’s like they wanted to channel Catherine Deneuve, Kim Novak and Tippi Hedrin and all those type of women from the 60’s.
It is def a “look” . It’s like a part for a movie but Kate did this character for a photoshoot.
First of all magazines are PHOTOSHOPPED, AIRBRUSHED, whatever. That’s why I don’t understand the “Omgzzz that doesn’t even look like her.” Um that’s not the “real” her. Its her after hours of hair and makeup. Even Kate had said herself that’s how it works.
Second of all how on earth did she lose her class by doing this photoshoot? She’s an actress who’s all for nudity - but it has to be for a significant reason. That just gives out class right there, she doesn’t just randomly take her clothes off. So this must have been significant for her. Plus she’s been nude before….heck, she was partially nude in her first movie!
And third of all, why do people have a hard time believing that some celebs are insecure? It’s HUMAN. She’s a REAL woman. She’s been through insecurities of being overweight as a teen. She knows how it feels, she experiences it. And she never said “Oh poor me I’m ugly! I’m fat! I’m so terrible looking”. She’s right when she says that when you’re bigger in an atmosphere where most are very thin, you feel like you’re different from them. That mentality from her teen years is still stuck with her. But she’s comfortable with herself to the point where she doesn’t want to be a stick. So more power to her!
I agree Helena, what the hell is up with that? People put Kate on this pedestal and if she looks glamous and slim like here they want to attack her. It’s so immature. She is not Keira Knightley skinny at all. She is just the right size and has looked this way from years, you all just haven’t been paying attention. Her face was fuller in Titanic and she was much younger and still had baby fat. Kate’s not allowed to look smouldering? Maybe you are all just fooled by her plain jane roles she’s been playing but Kate is GORGEOUS and I’ve seen pics of her out and she is a natural beauty. Looks aside, let’s talk about her finally winning her Oscar already!
Well I saw her on Letterman 2 years ago and she looked just like she is here. I think some of you are forgetting that Titanic was over 10 years ago. Leo and her looks different.
Firstly, I’d like to say that Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet are two different women.
Knightley is naturally thin and Winslet is naturally curvy. She even said she was overweight when she was younger. You can’t really compare the two because they’re two English actresses!

Uh, to fake victim - ye, she’s wearing heels/ looking glamorous FOR A PHOTOSHOOT. What she’s trying to say is that she should make more of an effort on a daily basis - she’s not criticising women for wearing heels at all - quite the opposite - I got the impression that she was saying ‘dibs to you for wearing heels all the time, I wish I could but I can’t’ - I get wear she’s coming from because I’m the same. I wish I could look nice all the time but my laziness makes me choose comfort/ease over high maintenance looks. If it doesn’t come naturally, it is a lot of effort and frankly I don’t think many women can be bothered.

If you actually read the interview, but clearly you lack reading comprehension she was talking about wanting to be able to go around in high heels in her everyday life like some girls but she can’t. uh that’s Catherine Deneuve, legendary french actress in her iconic role Belle Du Jour dummy. It’s like one of those photoshoots where they make modern actresses to look like Greta Garbo or Audrey Hepburn. Magazines do that all the time. Didn’t you see the hitchcock one from early this year? It’s called getting into character.

What? She’s always the most charming, funny and lovely star in her interviews. She’s not aggressive, she’s just very lively. It’s charming. She’s a british gal with a very british sense of humor. I’ve never seen so many Kate Winslet haters before. Everyone seems to love her usually. Seems to be you people are looking for flaws in this great, beautiful, charming and talented woman only because you have low self-esteem. She gives te best interviews. You don’t know what you’re talking about. She was hilarious on Letterman a few years ago talking about the french talk show and telling a funny story about Cameron Diaz. She’s the coolest. Stop hating!
