Carrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.

While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”

“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

P.S. Today’s election day, don’t forget to vote!!!!!

YES CARRIE!!
Finally, a celebrity who gets it. Movie stars, t.v. stars are so removed from reality that their opinions mean nothing. She is right, I’d NEVER vote for someone a celebrity endorsed. Most Americans are not that dumb. It’s not the celebrities that Obama’s going to tax to death, it’s the small business, working, middle class.

How is it, that if one’s opinion is to say that “My opinion, which I hold close to my heart, has nothing to do with my celebrity status” can cause such anger to come boiling out of so many people? There is, in my opinion, much to be said for the celebrity that is not wishing to share that info. If you really think of it, it is a much smarter choice to say, it’s none of your business! That way, as an entertainer, you haven’t alienated 1/2 of the populous. The idea of being an entertainer is to be able to touch as many hearts as you can; regardless of creed, color, sex, age or level of education. It appears to me, that Carrie is much wiser than her age would lead you to believe, or of those that are hateful toward her, for having an opinion that doesn’t match theirs. Relax, take a deep breath and remember, entertainers get a stage because they can perform, not because they are wise. You don’t need to be real sharp to be able to speak into a microphone or read a teleprompter! But if your presentation is enjoyable, we will ask you to get back up there again.

I TOTALLY AGREE! She was right on with every word! People shouldn’t vote for someone just because a celeb endorses them! Hopefully people did and will take that into account when they hit the polls!

Good for Carrie!

How refreshing! You go, girl!

She looks just like Jessica Simpson in this picture. How ironic

I appreciated Carrie for saying this, as it has been something that has bothered me about celebrities for quite a long time. Celebrities should uses their influence to persuade people to vote in general, but never condemn a candidate upon their fans. It is so frustrating to see celebrities on TV, telling me who to vote for. I have a brain and I like to use it on my own, not with your help. Thanks though!

i agree with carrie. For example, if she tells who she wants to win for the presidental election then her fans and oher people who adore her will follow in her footstteps and vote for whoever shes voting for.

YOU GO GIRL

I lose respect for people who claim to have talent and don’t.

#18, you summed it up perfectly. I don’t see the harm in celebrities voicing their opinion. But when they do it in a smug and obnoxious way…I hate it.

I agree with the basis of Carrie’s statements, but I think she worded it wrong, she’s said similar things in other interviews and it’s come off much better, she has said that it’s just not her personal thing to publicly endorse people. She has said she doesn’t even know her parents’ political views and votes in the past.

And I wish people wouldn’t just assume she’s a Republican because she’s in country music and won’t say what her views are, as other people have said there’s actually a lot of evidence that she’s NOT.

Love you Carrie <3

America has been so dumbed down that people can’t think for themselves. They believe everything the media and celebrities tell them. People in Hollywood don’t live in the same world as you & I unless you make millions of dollars. Do you think they have to worry about how high taxes go? How much food cost? How must gasoline cost? I don’t think so. They may have issues, but they aren’t the same ones I faces on a daily basis. I personally don’t care ,and I believe most of America feels the same way, who they are supporting. 1 out of 10 probably couldn’t tell you what either candidate has done and plans to do. They just want the publicity.
Some of you believe they have the right to voice their opinion, but Carrie doesn’t have the right to voice hers. Talking about hypocrites.

never liked her @ 11/04/2008 at 3:36 pm

she wants her 15 minutes of fame

Funny how so many peopple here are telling her to “stfu” … why? She can’t have an opinion that differs from yours?

Elvis was once asked who he was voting for and his very classy answer was “shucks I’m just an entertainer, not a politician” or words to that effect. Entertainers don’t know any more than the average person does, but they have one thing we average Joes don’t have, and that’s the attention of the media. So yeah, they do have a responsibility that differs from our private conversations.

People who get mad at this must be insecure. She never said she was Dem or GOP, yet most who are dissing her here accuse her of being a GOP. So… if I am GOP I can’t have an opinion? Or if I am a Dem and an entertainer, I MUST therefore get my opinion out in the public eye? Even though (either party notwithstanding) neither entertainer knows any more than the rest of us?

As for who’s going to be more famous in a year or two, Carrie U or Oprah, for example, who cares? Level of fame has nothing to do with level of intelligence.

I’m just glad we live in a country where we CAN espress our opinions. Don’t try to shout me down for it; it’s my right. Carrie’s too. And yours. But can’t we be a “polite society” at the same time? We demean only ourselves when we cast stones on others.

“The folks at NSU just GAVE her degree to her. She still lacked hours to graduate so the school just gave the degree to her because she won American Idol.”

Umm nooooo she finished the last 5-10 hours she had to do after Idol and earned her diploma. Carrie is a VERY smart girl, as people have said… magna *** laude, high school saluditorian, etc.

And seriously STOP saying she is a Republican because I really doubt she is!!! She is huge in animal rights, and she has cited education as an important issue to her because both her mom and sisters are teachers, AND she worked for as a page for a Democratic state Rep. from Oklahoma in college. She’s probably a Democrat and everyone is bashing her as a “dumb Republican” which is just wrong and unfair anyway.

She’s saying something I’ve always wanted to say. Of course I’m voting for Obama, but I just hate it when my favorite heroes are pushing me to vote for someone I’m don’t want to vote for. Like want happened in the primary when I voted for Hillary and all of these celebrities wawnted fans to vote for Obama. Made me irratated…
Kinda like how Oprah wouldn’t let Hillary go on her show, but only Obama…

It’s like, I can think for myself!

What an idiot, I just lost all respect for Carrie Underwood. Hello!!! EVERYONE has a right to vote and be vocal about who they are voting for.

If you want my honest opinion, she is probably voting for McCain and is just pissed that most celebrities are voting for Barack and he is going to win!!

Whatever Carrie Underwood, Remember that you live in the United States of America. LAND OF THE FREE and with that comes Freedom of choice and Freedom of Speech. Just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean they don’t get to be vocal about their candidate of choice.

Get over yourself girl!!!!

She’s probably just bitter because most celebrities by far - with the exception of the odd Ted Nugent type fascist - go for Barack Obama and are very liberal, cosmopolitan, and open-minded in their views…while poor little white trash country girl who won a contest likes McCain and thus lashes out at others for speaking their mind because it bugs her that everyone favors Obama so overwhelmingly.

OBAMA for the win, baby!

Carrie Underwood only shows that she thinks the public IS stupid. There is nothing wrong with Celebrities saying who they vote for and encouraging people to vote. I am voting for Obama because he is the best choice in MY opinion. Contrary to popular belief, most people can make their own decisions based on the issues that most impact their lives.
If Carrie really felt that way, then she should cancel her Vitamin water endorsement, since that it encouraging people one way. She is so fake. I am sure she just needs a check, and she will spew out whatever they want her too. Carrie Underwood only uses her celebrity when it benefits her financially.

STUPID.
when times get hard, some people need enlightening.

GO GO OBAAAAAAAMAAAAAAAAA !!!!

I don’t really care about the american presidential elections because i’m not american but i kind of agree with Carrie. Even though all that thing about celebrities endorsing candidates is a very good markting strategy i think it’s just not right to influence people through the media. STILL in my opinion, most people aren’t that stupid to vote for a candidate just because a movie star or whatever tells them to

she makes a clear point..
but i personally think she made this statement as an inconspicuous way of putting down celebrities who endorse obama.. since its pretty obvious that the majority of her demographics and a VAST majority of her listeners are leaning towards mccain.

.. just another reason for small town ‘real’ America to put down hollywood.

-just sayin

She is so right . . . celebs are not who we need to lead us or our children only entertain!!!
