Carrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.
While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”
“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

P.S. Today’s election day, don’t forget to vote!!!!!

i say she needs to stfu because it’s a hypocritical statement. She’s saying celebritites shouldn’t publicly endorse or support candidates (implying they shouldn’t voice their personal opinions on any subject matter) because it’s wrong to influence the public and yet she feels SO comfortable as to tell the entire public that she has no respect for those that do. yet she feels it’s fine to endorse something frivolous such as VITAMIN WATER and SKETCHER’S SHOES to attempt to influence the public!! what a HYPOCRITE!!!!
i wanna **** in her face. she’s so stupid! everyone is entitled to their own opinion. just cuz the celebs are in the spotlight doesn’t mean they can’t act human. for god’s sake, they will endorse whoever they fcukin want and its not their fault the paps are all over them putting it out there in the media. anywho, this ***** seriously needs her face to get pissed on. i bet she’s not even voting.
Maybe she needs to stop thinking Americans are stupid. I vote on the issues not because of the celeb(s) endorsement.
P.S. that also means she lost respect for Pitt, sh*t starter.
Political Propaganda! Its not a new thing. Freedom of speech. Besides when it comes down to it, family and significant others are far more influential than what may come of celebrity endorsments in terms of voting behavior. Individuals coming from a more conservative family tend to vote for the republican and vise versa; its a result of how we were raised.
WOW!!! That is the first intelligent thing I have heard a celeb say in a very long time! Shame on Matt Damon and the rest of the Hollywood snobs ( right or wrong ) for opening their mouths. You are entertainers….ENTERTAIN US! …then shut up.
She needs to stop putting her foot in her mouth . Carrie, use the brain God gave you and think before open your mouth. Your 15min are running out fast.
I’ll put something else in her mouth….what a shame to waste it on a foot
Carrie rocks and I completely agree with her.
I’m with her.
Love Carrie~

I agree with Carrie 100%, though I also do believe everyone is entitled to their opinion. It’s just that celebrities have an advantage with the microphone and being in the public eye. They are able to get on a soapbox in the media. The average person (who both indirectly and directly pays these celebrities salaries, btw) does not have the advantage of a soapbox to reach the masses. These comment boards help, but not much by a long shot.
Laura, I can only guess that Carrie didn’t get your vote on American Idol. So, were you a cast-off?
Carrie is actually right.
We as the American public do not have our own TV shows from which we can broadcast our opinions. They do. This gives them the power of persuasion.
Oprah Winfrey was a big NO NO !!
I will never watch her show again. She has no right to drop Hillary Clinton , and endorse Obama just because he is BLACK !!
Keep hollywood out of politics !! They are actors who fake everyday life, and most of them are tragically nothing like the character they appear to be. Take for instance Oprah. Her true colors became known when she turned down Palins interview, making her the Democratic headquarters for Obama !!!!
I didn’t know who she is and thanks to the comments here i found out that she was the winner of a tv show contest. I guess that sums up what she is pretty well….
I first thought by looking at the picture posted here that she was the bad girl from “Knots Landing”.
Elvis was an idiot, A Republican one BTW, member of the CIA, gun lover and died the way he deserved too : on the crapper.
I think everyone has the right to express their opinion, even celebrities. I disagree with Carries statement, she’s basically stating that famous people do not have a right to express themselves. Therefore, she must be against democracy.
So some of you argee with a couple celebrities that said people were idiots or stupid or crazy if they did not vote for a certain candidate and used national television to state their opinion just because they are celebrities? Those are the types I am sure Carrie does not agree with. There were no names ever mentioned in the actual interview. JJ has added those to make it more controversial.
And all Republicans must be sent to guantanamo.
Someone,
Are you her publicist ? or are you really Carrie Underwood trying to defend yourself with craps?
I think her comments are right-on! I get sick of celebrities forgetting we want them to entertain us, it isn’t their job to force feed us with their opinions. Think Madonna or Sheen. They’re way over the top.
Glad to hear common sense and respect for consumers from a celebrity.
it is about time someone hollywood star said something intelligent
major props to her.
thanks Jared
except, Bee JJ added names when the actual article did not mention any so not happy he made it appear that she mentioned actual celebrities by name when she did not.
Well, i just lost respect for you, Carrie! You’re an idiot. Celebs just like eveyone else have a right to voice their opinion. Besides, most voters aren’t swayed by celebrity endorsements anyway.
I used to like you when you were modest and humble. Get over yourself.
