Carrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.
While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”
“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

P.S. Today’s election day, don’t forget to vote!!!!!

didnt she openly endorse bush in 2004?
i completely agree. i personally don’t care about who any celebrity endorses. i have very little respect for most entertainers in the first place. but a lot of americans actually value what some celebrities have to say and will believe a lot of what they hear from their mouths. they (celebrities) love this power and use it. some for good and some for bad. regardless, i agree it should not be used for political sway. but then again…who cares what i think? HA!
Well, at lease Carrie is preoccupied with this issue and leave all of her EXES alone. Peace, Peace at last.
I agree with the those that say props to Carrie for having the nerve to say this. Some people are too influenced by celebrities just because it comes from a celebrity. She did not like them publicly endorsing a candidate (as in pushing them off on us is what I am sure she meant). To me this a compliment to us ordinary people. She is saying we have the brains to pick who we want without this shoving it down our throat on who we better vote for. I am sure she feels that they are entitled to their opinion - she probably just does not like those that try and force us to believe the way they do because they have a public forum to do so.
Carrie Underwood was nice enough to travel to Iraq to put on a concert for our troops at war in 2007. Well, actually she toured the large bases where most of the logistical operations take place and didn’t come in contact with most of the soldiers who regularly see combat. In my experience seeing and meeting her, she did nothing but complain about the situation. I understand that she was taking out her own time and money to do something for the troops, but she could have at least made an effort to seem sincere about it.
P.S. I am a United States soldier and I endorse Barrack Obama
You got that right, Carrie!! Thanks for giving us some credit that we can make our own decisions!!!
She is absolutely correct. Celebrities have access to a lot of folks and can sway them one way or the other just because of who they are. Whoever made the comment about her being on a public show should realize that they are trying to compare apples and oranges. In any case, at least she was promoting herself not anybody else.
It’s funny how carrie haters can twist words.
What are Mr. All Knowing Snyder. You say it so matter of fact. You must be white ( shes just voting for him because hes black) for posting such a poor comment. Oprah didn’t interview any of the candidates. Obama was on her show long before he even announced he was running. She released a statement saying she would interview when the election was over. Showing her true colors huh??? Don’t be so little minded and say racial comments like that. common. And its just as easy for people to say predominantly white areas in the south are voting for mccain because hes white. Don’t go there. Educate yourself!!!
Blah
Everybody else has the right to and is practically EXPECTED to voice their political opinions. Look on Facebook–there are literally hundreds of groups supporting Obama, Biden, Palin, and McCain. We recognize that we have the RIGHT to choose a side and not be punished for speaking out on what we believe. Look at all the bumper stickers, pins, t-shirts, and lawn signs–nobody is complaining about these.
And how in the world are celebrities FORCING us to vote a certain way? True, celebrities are influential, but in an event as important as the presidential election, people who aren’t intelligent enough to vote independent of their favorite actors/singers/etc. should not be complaining about their endorsement of a certain candidate.
And for those of you who are saying Americans AREN’T smart enough to make their own political decisions–it this were true, Americans would just get their political opinions from other people, including the mass media. If celebrities have the right to and are enormously praised for supporting certain charities and international causes, why can’t they support something that may be just as important to them–a presidential Candidate? I am not saying that Carrie Underwood is unintelligent, but she made a serious lack of judgement when she made this statement. Many of the celebrities that she has lost “all respect” for are so much more respected and influential than she.
about time someone in hollywood said something smart
And, how much do you want to bet that all the people here who have responded to this article with name calling or telling Carrie to “STFU” are Obama supporters? It certainly doesn’t give me a very high opinion of them as civil mature adults. As for Carrie’s comments… this is simply her opinion. She never said that celebrities cannot express their views, nor did she say they cannot support a particular candidate publicly. She simply said that she loses respect for those who do. Now, as far as I’m concerned, that’s her issue. What I don’t get is why those who disagree with her are getting their feathers ruffled and what I really don’t get is why they have to be so rude about it.
USSOLDIER: I am sure she did not even get to pick where they wanted her to go when she went to IRAQ so that was unfair. You have no idea, as do any of us, who made the decision on where she would visit. She did not even have to go period and some never do.
I think she is nobody to judge the other celebs actions!!
First of all, I bet her words were TOTALLY twisted and she never even said it like that because that 100% doesn’t sound like something that would come out of Carrie’s mouth, and I’ve been a true fan since AI.
Second, I think everyone here is a complete idiot for calling Carrie an idiot. She is NOT stupid, dumb, or a *****. She is a well-respected, and an all around woman who just gave her opinion. DEAL WITH IT. More than half of you who disagree with her and are bashing her are saying celebs should have their own opinions right? LET HER HAVE HERS. Yea I think it’s a bit extreme to lose all respect, but she probably didn’t even say that, ever though it’s right. I’m sick and tired of people shoving Obama into everyone’s faces, and I’m a DEMOCRAT. I think all americans should be able to choose without celebrity endorsements interfering with their decisions, it’s been bugging me for a long time.
STFU Carrie!!!
*
This girl is so delusional!!!
*
No wonder even her personal life s.u.c.k.s!
All guys end up dumping her flat a.s.s.!
I understand her point. and majority of the time celebs confuse the issue…look at Jenny macarthney and her stance on vacinnation…they talk froma very personal selfish perspective, so they should keep tehir views to themselves…Carrie however went a bit too far in the “losing all respect” remark..its not that serious and certainly wont vote because Anniston or for tha matter the againg gigolo george said so
ahhahaha
Yea I think it’s a bit extreme to lose all respect, but she probably didn’t even say that.*
And what she probably meant by celebrity endorsements is all those people who tell and basically almost force others to vote for their candidate because they think they’re best suited to run the country, not celebs who simply say they’re voting for a certain one.
All celebrities should “Just shut up and sing”. Thanks Carrie….you’ve just jumped to the top of my list.
PS I’m still waiting for Streisand and Baldwin to leave the Country like they promised.
goo, I didn;t like her before, but after this, I love her; I might even go and buy 100 copies of her albums or album or whatever!!!1
this is one smart cookie!
she is totally right; the american public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions.
how on else did you ended up with bush to begin with? -twice.
a country gets only the president it deserves.
too bad, while the usa is going down the plummeth you’re dragging the world with you.
Carrie Underwood has no respect for celebs who endorse presidential candidates???? So she has no respect for Oprah who is using her AMERICAN RIGHT of Freedom of the Speech to stand up for the candidate she believes in!!! You don’t read that Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney..etc saying they have no respect for female singers who date NFL QB’s (Tony Romo), or singers who win a talent show (American Idol). Trust me, next election Carrie Underwood will be endorsing a candidate. All she needs a little time to understand leadership, maturity, and many of principals the United States of American was founded on.
She’ll be pregnant in a year with some actors baby!!
I think she’s backing McCain, and she’s not saying it publicly because she doesn’t want to lose fans. It says something when you are embarrased to admit who you back for president, celebrity or not. The story about not wanting to tell people who to vote for is basically a story, so that her image will not be tarnished, and her sales will not be affected.
Many of you who say Carrie is an idiot, are idiots yourselves! She is just saying that she doesn’t like it when celebrities endorse a certain candidate. She isn’t saying she backs McCain or Obama! And where did she say celebrities don’t have the right to express their opinions! You all are just Carrie haters that have nothing better to do than bash about every comment she makes… Shesh!! Get over yourselves! I totally agree with Carrie, voting should be PRIVATE, you shouldn’t tell people to vote who you want to win. Let people have their own opinions!!
shes a ugly ***** with a big chin! no respect for sum of the biggest celebs around for voting? pehh shes a nobody what did she come fro american idol? and shes judging the people who workd hard for ther fame because of voting ,, she tottaly has no respect for saying it in my books!!! usless *****
