Carrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.
While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”
“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

Wow she nailed it! The girl just moved up a few notch’s in my book.I hate hate HATE it when some celebrity tries to tell me how to vote. They need to shut the hell up and sing or act. I guess what really makes it so bad is they all sound so damn dumb whenever they endorse someone. Bruce Springsteen,”I just want my Country back- Don’t YOU want your country back?” IDIOT!! My country is still here, always will be..Or Hayden Pantieerie (sp?) “Vote for McCain and die” IDIOT!! They can’t discuss any issues because they DON’T KNOW ANY ISSUES!! And anyone who is influenced by any of them are even bigger fools!!
She’s an idiot. What she says is a contradiction.
Ms. Underwood, WE ARE smart enough to make our own decisions, and celebrities will not influence us. So shutup and let other people exercise their freedom of speech.
I completely agree with Carrie. I’m so tired of hearing all these celebrities opinions. I have my own opinions and when I keep having theirs thrust in my face it just makes me lose all respect for them. I just want to be entertained by them. If I need to know something about
politics I’ll watch the news or read the paper.
I completely agree with Carrie! I wish the celebrities would just stick to entertaining and leave their opinions at home. I have my own opinions and if I need more information I know where to get it. All their opinions in my face is a total turn off!!!
Maybe you should read this article from the LA Times, where most of the celebrities are. They support Carrie and rightfully so. All the haters are here are simply that and blowing this out of proportion. It is a celebrity giving a simple opinion.

she is sad cause she can’t say i support the republicans hahahahahaha
go on Oprah , Jen , I love you both for supporting Mr President Obama
Your friend from Egypt , we are so happy in Egypt
I think it got deleted since I actually posted a link for the LA TImes because even they did an article agreeing with Carrie and obvisoulsy LA is where most the celebs live - and they still supported Carrie. She hadan opinion that is being blown out of proportion. You should be able to find it at the LA Times online. Either way, she is being supported, even by newspapers like that. and did nothing wrong, even if some thing it could have been worded differently. Celebs have no business pushing their beliefs on us. Yes, they can encourage us to vote and have a simple opinion on who they support but to try to shove their beliefs on us, which is what Carrie is talking about, is wrong and there are many that hate that some celebs are doing that..
Kudos to Carrie for standing up for her right to keep her life private. I get soooooo beyond annoyed by celebrities endorsing this or that candidate and/or musicians shoving their political agenda down my throat in the media or in concert.
Carrie is TOTALLY a breath of fresh air. It’s too bad not more celebrities don’t have the guts to think for themselves and speak their mind rather than just blindly following the herd.
She is so right! I mean look at Oprah. Who the hell is she? God? Matt Damon he is another ass hole. (Spelled his name wrong, but don’t care). I saw a interview today on CNN or Fox News and they were talking with this woman (she was black). They asked her ” Is your vote based on race or color” and she said YES. That is not right. God help us all now.
And folks, Carrie never mentioned any of those names in her actual article. Those were all added by JJ to sensationalize the story.
I have to agree with her this time. While it is a free country and everyone has freedom of speech, it is different when celebrities voice their opinions, relatively speaking. You won’t have some average Joe plastered all over the internet telling us to vote for x-candidate. Even if you do, no one is going to care. However when a celebrity does it, they could potentially be role models for thousands of young voters who know nothing about anybody’s policies and vote x-person because everyone is telling them too. Sadly, I do believe there are people like that…
@Couper: I totally agree with you.
I’m not a fan of Carrie but I definitely agree with what she said.
Come to think of it, this is the first time an election became so celebrity infested. Bleh.
Very eloquently stated. Though it does trouble me that some bloggers have to resort to profane language and name calling. Where in the article did it state that she was a Republican? Carrie was just exercising her freedom of speech and freedom to cast her own vote without making it publicly known. I too feel that celebrity endorsements are unnecessary. Celebrities get paid to entertain us, not attempt to educate us.
Who does she think she is? Let’s just say all she did was win a singing contest and she thinks she can criticise someone as wonderful with great life accomplishments and contributions as Oprah Winfrey! Actually, I have no respect for this singing ***** who obviously thinks too highly of herself. Not that I ever spent a dime on any of her music, but let’s just say this pretentious act of hers will certainly make sure I NEVER spend a penny on any of her music or whatever future projects she takes part in.
I have to say Amen to Kendra (post 341)… you understand it all perfectly! GREAT post!
no credibility. she did not just win a contest, as she is on this site and is called a superstar. she is a grammy winner, cma female vocalist of the year, grand ole opry winner.
at least speak the truth.
i think that is the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard.
celebs have a right like everyone else in american dont they to say what they like????????????? its written in your constitution isnt it??????? she is an idiot.
THANK YOU CARRIE!
I cannot stand turning on my tv and seeing ANOTHER celeb endorsing a candidate, especially obama. She is completely RIGHT about how its almost saying people cant make their own decisions.
Its one thing to say who you are voting for, I dont care about that, but to go out and campaign and rally votes for a candidate? LET THE CANDIDATES DO THEIR OWN JOB! Damn.
That was really balsy of her to say that though. She knew she was going to get slack for that comment, and I respect her that much more for saying it and not biting her tongue about it.
Agree with her or not, you gotta give her props for saying it.
Carrie is right on! She’s gone from someone I just admired to my favorite Country artist with what she said. She is the anti-Dixie Chicks. Whatever happened to them anyways? Carrie Underwood represents class, the Dixie Chicks represent trash!
Jeez, interesting how the celebs mentioned are those supporting the Democratic nominee (now President-elect). Why can’t celebrities say who they are endorsing??? They ARE also CITIZENS!!
Now — those who actually vote ONLY coz celebs then they’re the ones who are stupid, NOT the celebrities.
Carrie — I used to like you — but — I think you now think you’re better than lots of people. Why don’t you just sing, and DO LEARN about politics and educate yourself.

gizmatage, you’re clueless. Truly CLUELESS! I feel sorry for people like you that don’t know how to think for themselves!
Oh god when did she become so self righteous? If I was an American seeing celebrities endorse a particular candidate I wouldn’t think they’re suggesting that I’m stupid. If you think that then maybe you are stupid. And if you DO vote for a candidate just because your favorite actress is then that is also stupid. But the point it, you want to be able to voice out your support for someone when you really believe them. And celebs don’t force you to vote for someone, when they endorse someone it is a signal for you to check them out first. (from Brunei)
finally someone who speaks the truth. I like her a lot… but now I absolutely LOVE her for saying that!
