OlderCarrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.
While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”
“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

When a celebrity endorses someone they are not telling you to immediately vote for them, they’re telling you to make an informed decision! So obviously if you see a lot of smart respectable people such as George Clooney and Oprah endorse Obama you begin to think, hmm… let me read more about his policies because these people are strong supporters. You don’t just say “OMG now i’m TOTALLY voting for him!”
That is a stupid comment coming from a “country” girl. I won’t vote for someone just because a celebrity endorses them. Celebs have the right just like any other citizen to publicly proclaim who they’re gonna vote for. I think its courageous of them to endorse whoever they feel comfortable with. Its democracy, bit*h!
whatever if all celebrities were for john mccain her speech would be different and she would appreciate their support but no they are for change .

i think i get what she’s saying. common citizens aren’t likely to reach and affect millions of people. celebrities on the other hand are public figures and what they say or who they endorse may influence the public and their fans into thinking the same way. it’s like endorsing a specific brand or product. the same principle works.
i only wish carrie stated that she refuses to say who she’s supporting and left it at that. she didn’t have to bash the others who openly supported a candidate. and the way she said it…

Get you facts straight. This is not about Taylor Swift who is a sweetheart and talented songwriter. Leave her out of it. Once again Carrie is asked a question and gives and honest opinion and the media twists it all around. Having a voice is what America is about but dont use your celebrity status to change someones vote unless your on their payroll.

Celebrities have the right to show support who ever they chose to, just like I do, and just like many political commentators do, I think most people are smart enough to make up their own minds, and saying celebrities shouldn’t endorse a candidate is basically saying most people aren’t smart enough to make up their own minds which is really insulting.

Couldn’t agree more. Celebrities’ opinions do affect the public’s decision alot. My friends they all support Obama, without even giving McCain a chance.when asked why, they couldn’t give me an answer. Please don’t get me wrong, i’m not a supporter of McCain. But i do think the celebrities opinions are pretty extremist; everyone supports Obama. Makes me wonder, they said it because they really feel that way, or because majority says so?
LOL at whoever said she has no credibility, neither does any other celebrity. Do you really think people care what Lindsay Lohan, Hayden Panettiere, etc stand for? Do you really think they even KNOW what the heck they’re standing for half the time? NO. If anything, Carrie has the most credibility out of anyone seeing as she actually went back to graduate college for Broadcast Journalism. Which means if she wasn’t the superstar she is today, she would probably be on the news right now talking about this election.

And all of us should be informed on politics and the leaders who will affect how this country is run - to not talk about issues is irresponsible. I think this statement is a littttttttttle too harsh. It is the celebrity’s choice to be vocal about their political stance just like it is every citizens. To say she loses all respect for them is ridiculous. No matter who you are you should be able to stand up for what you believe in which is all the celebs are really doing.
