Carrie Underwood: No Respect for Celebs who Endorse Candidates

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood has lost all respect for Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney and other celebrities who have backed candidates for office.

While talking about the presidential race with TV Guide, Carrie revealed, “There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly. I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.”

“It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she explains. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to. Music is where you go to get away from all the BS. Whether it’s from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape.”

P.S. Today’s election day, don’t forget to vote!!!!!

Oh whatever! She is just saying that cause she is too ******* scared to admit that she is a McCain girl. Come on! She is from Oklahoma, McCain won that state. But I agree with what Matters said “NO ONE respects an “artist” who won a reality TV show contest.”

Words, immortalized forever in print!!! You can never take it back. I didn’t realize “celebraties” had to give up their freedom of speech and check their opinions at the door because of the vocation they chose!! One of the most ridiculous suggestions I”ve ever heard. I thought when they were off duty, they became private citizens, just like the rest of us. But most profoundly, Carrie, are you not suggestion extactly that, that the American people are in fact so stupid that they do not posses the ability to make up their own mind, regardless of whom their favourite actor might be voting for? Just a thought!!

i don’t agree with her at all! everyone, including celebrities, has the right to back up the person they believe in.

Yeah right, Carrie @ 11/08/2008 at 12:37 pm

I still love Carrie Underwood as a singer. Her music is some of the best and she has a wonderful voice.

Ms. Underwood feels this way naturally because she obviously voted for John McCain, who is unpopular with celebrities and Hollywood people. So, it’s easy for Underwood to remain mum and keep her choice to herself. She was basically embarrassed to let people know it. I guarantee you that if Underwood had voted for Barack Obama like most of the celebs, she would be just as eager to shout it from the rooftops.

I give her credit for trying her best to give a phony excuse for bashing Oprah and the others, but her excuse is totally lame.

so what? u lost ur respect for oprah? and i just lost my respect for you.
u made a weird statement publicly. i think she voted for mccain. but too bad… obama won, dumb blonde.

A M E N Carrie. You are smart and said it for alot of us.

hahaha now that Carrie Underwood has gotten a taste of fame I guess she thinks she is somehow better than Hollywood royalty, not bad for an American idol reject. I just she called Jessica Simpson fat but last I checked fame went looking for Jessica Simpson, not the other way around and being curvaceous does not equate to being fat.

ahhhhh!!!!! you poor clueless soles…. carrie underwood is right and i’m not saying that just because i’m a republican but because i’m a somewhat normal christian american and not some crazy yankee that has no sense of morality. it’s not the celebritys business to give there opinion in front of a huge crowd or at held press confroncess. you people say that the celebs have there rights just like everyone else…. well, everyone else doesn’t get in front of huge crowds and take advantage of there celebrity status…. and that’s what there doing… stop being so gullable people… that’s why celebs do that crap… because they can and it’s not just cause they want to share there opinion… you know all chances of have a normal “CHRISTIAN COUNTRY” which this country was based on slipped out the door when OBAMA became president. Those stupid, self absorbed celebs need to keep there mouth’s SHUT!!!!! The only reason Opra was so much for Obama was because he was black and that is the only reason… it didn’t matter who was better for the country…. all that mattered to her was that there would be a black president… you stupid yankee fools!!!!

You people are all just as idiotic, stupid, and whatever else words you used to put her down. You say over and over how celebrities are allowed the express their opinions and show their support yet you are bashing her for doing just that. Contradiction at its best (or worst). Carrie is a down-home country girl with small town morals and values and if any of you who are bashing her knew anything about her personally you would more than likely change your point of view.

Boy oh boy. The people here are really not too bright if they think that celebrities DON’T influence votes, popular culture, trends, etc. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t get endorsements. Advertisers like Nike, Coke, etc. wouldn’t pay mega-bucks for them to hock their product for 30 seconds. Stars wouldn’t make “Get out and Vote” videos if they didn’t have any influence. This post is months old, but it’s scary today to read.

What a puerile remark.

No, music “shouldn’t be” any one thing, Ms. Underwood. Or are you TRYING TO TELL US how to believe?! Are American s NOT SMART ENOUGH to figure out the role of music in their lives, HMMMMM??

Republicans (because, please, whom is she trying to fool?) always have a problem with entertainers supporting politicians….except for the likes of Dennis Miller, Bruce Willis, Bo Derek, Jon Voight, and others of their ilk.
