American Idol couple David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell hold hands after sharing a romantic lunch together on Thursday afternoon in Santa Monica, Calif.
David, 25, recently sat down with EW.com to talk about his self-titled debut CD that hits stores on Tuesday, November 18th.
On his ‘rivalry’ with Idol runner-up David Archuleta: “Hopefully, because that means Archie and I are hopefully still doing well! In a sense, it’s fun that that whole rivalry thing got created. If you put me in the same sentence with David Archuleta, I’ll be fine.
On his single “Light On”: “”Light On” is an interesting song. It encompasses almost all of my range. It’s all over the place. That’s Chris Cornell at his finest. It’s got some Zeppelin influence in it; it’s got some ’80s hair-metal influence; it’s got some grunge influence. To me it’s like a rock history lesson put into about a four-minute lecture. It’s fun to play, but it is definitely an intimidating song.”
On his comparison to Daughtry: “I didn’t let it get to me on the show, and I see no reason to let it get to me afterward. I just think this record is me, and if people want to compare it to Daughtry, awesome.”

I’m very happy for them. David is very talented and I’m anxiously awaiting the release of his CD. Why can’t people just be happy for them. I don’t understand all the hate. I met him on tour this summer and he was one of the nicest guys and spent quite a bit of time talking to us.

They are both just mid twenties so who knows if it will last, but he is happy and she seems adorable so they should have fun.

I’m a really good friend of hers & was sent this link from someone a work who ran across the article. Most of what’s said here is pretty offensive and inaccurate.. at least applying to the person I’ve come to know. She’s very, very, very sweet and one of those people who will always be there for you. I didn’t know her when she was in high school but she’s admitted she was a troubled teen but turned her life around and has spoken out about wanting to mentor troubled teens. I’m not a big believer in writing people off due to past mistakes. As long as you learn from them, more power to you. She is also closely involved with two charities. She’s got a really good heart. And s l u t or ********* are two of the last words in the book I’d ever choose to describe her. Thought maybe it might be worth something to contribute some insight from a person who actually knows her as opposed to someone who has seen her on tv or heard an interview or who knows someone who knew her more than 8 years ago etc. etc. She’s really not the trashy devil woman some of you make her out to be. He’s “a goober from the Midwest” (his own description) who’s never dated a hot girl in his life. She’s a fizzled out reality failure who’s desperately trying to get some more fame. The goober becomes the new American Idol. She shows up with him everywhere and anywhere there’s a reporter or a camera. What a cliche.
Once his fame starts going away (or if his album tanks, whichever comes first) Kimberly Caldwell will run from him so fast, she’ll pull a hamstring. And she’ll hook up with a new reality star who can help her get some more publicity.

Actually, the video of this incident on the tubey tells an interesting story. The body language between those two is not good. Notice how he pulls away from Skankwell as soon as he spots the pappers. And I think she subsequently gets pissed at him.

Most famous people tip off the paps where they’ll be. That’s a given. If they didn’t tip them off themselves, then somebody did. Forgive me for thinking that, but almost a week prior to David’s album being released, he gets “caught” out on a lunch date with his “girlfriend”? Okay! The body languages is quite hostile. Obviously, something about those two works to last this long. If it’s meant to be, it will be. I don’t get wasting time tearing the girl down, though. I don’t think that’s going to speed anything up. If you like the music, who the f cares? If his CD is good, it will do fine because 99.8% of the music buying population is not influenced that much by who he’s dating.
So why are the music buying population not actually buying his music then? People vote with their purchasing dollars, now don’t they?
Light On is tanking (in comparative/expectation terms), and it’s really a good song. Unfortunately, when I listen to it, I get the CRINGE FACTOR. Skankwell pops up in my head … barf ! Not just me … my friends too get the cringe factor, i.e. that he is singing the songs to her! Sorry, that’s just reality = lower sales.
I actually disagree and think Light On isn’t that great of a song. David’s vocals are good but it’s not a strong song. Way better material was on Analog Heart. I get the cringe factor from it, as well. Because he’s capable of so much better. TOML did amazing on the charts and still gets decent play and this relationship has been public since its release so blaming bad sales on Kimberly doesn’t really make sense across the board, IMO. I think the sales are due to people just not gravitating towards this song unfortunately. And I think he may be in trouble with his album for not releasing a stronger single first. I sure hope there’s better material than LO on his album. If there’s more songs on there closer to what he’s capable of bringing, I think it will be a huge success and there’s no way who he’s dating can stop that from happening.
I think there are a number of reasons why people are feeling less supportive (in terms of sales) of David Cook than back in May. Partly skankwell, partly cringe factors, partly arrogance, partly Light On isn’t good and video is cheesy/high schoolish. No one is wrong here … everyone has their reasons, and they should be respected as legitimate reasons. I just think that he would encounter more support if this particular gf wasn’t in the picture, since she is such a disliked person from the AI bunch. Example: Archie hasn’t put out his best, but he’s getting massive support from the fan base anyway.
It may be turning his fangirl fanbase off, but he’s going to get loads of male fans because of his “hot girlfriend”. Sure, some men might like his music first, but once they see that an average Midwesterner has some good music and a trophy girlfriend, they might think he’s cool and support everything he does.
You have to think like you work in PR. The restaurant they’re at isn’t known for having a lot of paps hanging out there. Kim is also about to do that show for Diddy in January. In other words, I’m saying this date was a set up.
if you take a look at the video on the tube, I don’t think they’ve had a romantic lunch … I think he’s being whipped. Oy, she looks miserable and cranky, and he looks even more unhappy. She’s using him for publicity and probably tipped off the papparazzi of their whereabouts. Just think, she got to go to the SNL after-party and other events with him, where she can network to enhance her own career. ICK ICK ICK ICK … she conjures up images of ska*k cooties. Caldwell is going to kill Cook’s career. He could have sold 600,000 with the initial buzz, just like Clay Aiken did, but now he will be lucky if he sells 300,000. It’s ok, but not great. No one is impressed that he is dating a loser like Caldwell. She is only arm candy…and he is an idiot.

Cook’s album sales are way lower than expected for a guy who rec’d 56 mil votes (yeah yeah yeah … we all know it’s not 56 mil people). The album is already dropping on i-tunes and it’s week #1 only … the songs that are thought to be about the ***** didn’t even make it on the charts … our boy is in big trouble with this cd … and I attribute it to the big turnoff … David dating a *****.
first off, let me make one thing clear: like a lot of the people posting here, i do not like kim caldwell. she is nothing but trash, & i feel it’s only a matter of time before she is out of david’s life for good. now on to what i’m about to say: did you people ever think that the reason david’s cd sold as much as it did is because there were other artists releasing albums that day? think about it. beyonce released her album “i am…..sasha firece” & nickelback released their album “dark horse” on that day as well. also after talking to some people who know more then i do on stuff like this, david’s cd was projected to sell between 280,000-300,000 which considering the state of the music industry these days is pretty good IMO. his cd did sell(and i’m only estimating here)283,000+ so IMO he did great considering the stiff competetion he had. that is all.
David may have had a good 1st week, but keep in mind that a lot of it had to do with pre-sales before many fan girls were keenly aware of skankwell. Many of my friends will NOT buy his cd. His problem is that he’s losing momentum right now. Beyonce and Nickelback have the ability to keep the momentum going … David doesn’t. It may go gold … but I would be surprised about platinum, which is embarassing for a guy who got 56 mil votes. He needs to kick that woman to the curb … stop acting like a married man … stop acting boring. Fan girls don’t like boring married men.

Contrary to some of your beliefs, I am not basing my opinions on jealously or thinking I could date him. Please. I am also basing my opinion of KC on what I knew and saw of her before David Cook even knew what Idol was. He needs to see that he can have lots of girls now and not naively date the first ***** that came after him. His PR is apparently making him keep her out of the public eye and David needs to think about why that is. Fans don’t care if he has a girlfriend, just not her. Doesn’t he stop to think about what might be so offensive about her? Other stars don’t have to keep girlfriends hidden–read the magazines. Someone needs to stage an intervention since she must have him brainwashed and will never let go. His poor mom has to be embarrassed—would you want your son to bring this home? And yes, she made her own nasty reputation and she looks and sounds like a 40 year old washed up tranny. You want a bad girl, fine, but she’s a trashy *****—there’s a dilfference.
Dave’s record has now sold almost 600,000 copies in 4 weeks. He’s been in the Top 10 albums on Billboard for 4 weeks, the only debut artist in the list. So he has now passed the ‘idol fans’ salesbase and is selling steadily out in the ‘real world’. He’s doing great.
As to Kim, it’s in her favor that she doesn’t have fake boobs, and she’s stopped wearing extensions. Also, she seems to be able to keep her mouth shut about her romances, as far as I can tell she hasn’t said one word about DC to the media. Now, there is some talk that Dave and she may have split up. She hasn’t been to his performances since the Saturday Night Live show in early November. He’s twice denied being engaged/married, and even said ‘No marriage for me’. He moved in with 2 of his band members in LA, not with her.
That said, he’s tried to be private (after making the initial mistake of asking Kim out publicly) and may simply be hoping to spend his holiday time off with her in some tropical paradise.
Bottom line for anyone who likes Dave, as long as he’s happy with her, good for him.
I wouldn’t get too excited about his sales. There’s talk that his fans are buying up 10-20 copies to gift them to friends and relatives at Christmas. Therefore, this is a temporary boost to sales. But more importantly, other idols such as Taylor Hicks also reached gold by Christmas and then sales dropped dramatically in January and thereafter. I wish him well and I do hope for the sake of his career that they have split up. She’s not an appropriate woman for such a classy guy. I feel sorry for his mom if this is his choice of woman. People are saying David and Carrie Underwood have some sparks flying these days, and I sure hope it’s true.

If your family can’t stand your spouse, it’s going to be a sad life, especially when grandkids come along. Also, she does have a criminal record, i.e. a DUI just a few years ago. This person is not exactly a stellar, and Dave deserves better, that’s all.

Vote for the Worst website yesterday said they had a ‘tip’ that Dave and KC broke up just before Christmas. However, they also reported back in Sept/Oct. that Dave and KC were moving in together, a week later Dave rented a house with Neal and Andy instead. So who knows if it’s true. I think it is, though.
I just hope they can both be pleasant about it. She’s been very discreet, and of course he’s always a nice guy (though he was kind of assy about the engagement rumour).

If you read the earlier comments from November, some of us predicted the break up. Their body language in the pictures and especially the video said it all … this relationship was doomed!!! And we predicted correctly. I think Skankwell figured out that David isn’t getting rich any time soon. He’s just a regular idol that will have to work his **** off touring to sell more records. I heard he is touring colleges and playing for about 1,000 people at a time. So he won’t be getting rich any time soon. Comfortable, but not rich … and skankeegirl likes “RICH AND FAMOUS GUYS”. sorry if this is a little late, but star magazine has reported that caldwell was seen drinking & making out with some no-name bar manager on december 29th. if that’s true, then she’s shown her true colors & i’m glad david got rid of her. he doesn’t need that.
