Leo DiCaprio Gives Sex Symbol Status To Zac Efron
Leonardo DiCaprio arrives at the Vue Leicester Square for the Body of Lies premiere in London on Thursday evening.
The 33-year-old actor recently revealed to Fox News that he is thrilled to have shed the sex symbol status of his younger days. “I look at young Zac Efron and think ‘Go get it pal, leave me in peace.’ I was never happy with the teen idol tag at all –-never wanted to be a sex symbol or all that stuff –-it was the work that appealed to me. Really nothing else.”
Leo also added that he has “total respect for how young stars like Zac handle it all. Really total respect.”
UPDATE: FOX apparently fabricated Leo’s quotes. Horrible! The entire entry was removed from the FOX website.

ha, that is the biggest joke ever. this dude was nothing but a sex symbol who paraded a different girl to bars and wild parties night after night. seems to me his “sex symbol” status went to his head for a few years there. for it not appealing to him he sure wallowed in it.
I never thought Leo was a sex symbol. He was hot in Titanic, but 10 years later he’s ugly as ever and lost his good looks.

What a complement coming from someone that Zac has referred to in more than one interview as the one whose career path he would like to follow!

#31 and #34 you both are right. I do think Leo was being sarcastic about the natural of celebrity, but I also think Leo was acknowledging that Zac handles his sex-status better at 21 than Leo did during the “Titantic” phase( Leo slept with Paris during that time. Not a smart move)
I’ll bet a million bucks Zac would prefer not to be a sex symbol either. Interesting that Leo felt the same way……he just wanted to act and didn’t want all the celebrity. But Zac has it all over Leo as far as maturity at the same age!!
I wish people would give Zac more credit for what he’s done professionally thus far. He’s worked hard and has made good choices. He will choose his next roles very carefully, I’m sure. He’s grown as an actor, AND as a man. He has staying power, with his talent AND his looks, and he’s just going to mature better and better, like Leo did.

i think its wonderful that leo would acknowledge a fellow actor in this way. leo was definitely known as a party boy during his younger days, and it wasn’t until he approached his early 20s that he started doing “serious” roles.
zac has the potential to go far, and with his mature outlook on life and the business, plus his talent and looks i’m sure he’ll achieve his goals.

it is well known that leo was a bar hopping party animal around when he was zac’s age, so don’t discount that. sure its not “teen idol” behavior but he certainly hasn’t always been the refined, well spoken, environmentally aware human being that he is now.
titanic was a blockbuster movie and it certainly catapulted both he and kate winslet to fame. but seriously, both of their acting jobs in that movie were mediocre at best. nothing compared to what they both are capable of now. and does anyone remember that disaster of a movie called “the beach?” don’t paint him with this midas touch brush. he has definitely worked his way up to where he is now. if it weren’t for martin scorcese being completely infatuated with dicaprio, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
i think he is a great actor but he has gotten some lucky casting breaks over the years.
yes zac’s physically appearances may create a whole bunch of heart throbbing women, but his acting talent is no where NEAR as amazing as leo’s. leo will be an acting LEGEND, whereas zac…just a simple pretty boy.

Me thinks Zac has a lot of potential in the acting arena. He just needs a good script and a good director and the rest will flow. Zac is more talented in that he can sing(boy, can he sing) and dance mean moves. Acting is in his blood. Anyway, he has conveyed all the emotions pretty well with his expressions. He also happens to have a killer bod and good looks, something even Leo can’t compare in that dept. Leo by comparison has always had boyish looks. No doubt Zac will get to where Leo’s at or even better where Brad Pitt’s at right now. Brad had and still has a killer bod and his handsome looks. Look at Johnny Depp. I would say Zac’s star is shining bright now and can only get brighter.

so, everyone. step back and give zac a chance and see what happens if he’s given a variety of roles. i think many of you will be pleasantly suprised at what he will offer comedically opposite leslie mann in “17 again.” then, if we’re lucky enough to have a studio pick up “me and orson welles” you will see a different side to him yet. after that, i am crossing my fingers that an interesting director will give him a meaty, edgy role that he can chew on and show us what he’s made of. because i’m positive that he’ll be here for the long haul.

Leo is still sexy in fact he has got better looking as he’s got older, loved him in ‘Blood Diamond’ and can’t wait to go and see his current movie, saw a advert for it on the telly last night and it looks really good.

As if Zac wants to be a sex symbol anyway. He’s always talked about fame as if it was a fleeting thing and that the work is the most important thing to him. And he has never been anything but respectful of Leonardo.

ihb, I was merely saying it’s good to have a wide fan base. I was NOT comparing their acting skills. Leo had great success early. But Zac is on his way, because he has determination and a desire to grow in his skills. THAT will carry him far.
