OlderNicole Kidman is a Danish Transsexual
Classic-in-black Nicole Kidman arrives back to her New York City hotel on Sunday afternoon.
The 41-year-old Aussie actress has signed on to play the world’s first post-op TRANSSEXUAL, married to Charlize Theron.
According to THR, Nic will star in and produce The Danish Girl, based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for a female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.
When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einar to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.
This movie is going to be ca-raaaaaazy!

Einar Wegener was a Danish artist who longed to be a woman, and she persuaded a surgeon to make her physically a woman. In 1930, in Berlin she underwent the transformative surgery–sexual reassignment surgery (SRS), we call it today. It wasn’t enough. Lily wanted to be able to have children. A surgeon apparently believed it possible. It was rumoured she had ovarian and uterine tissue implanted. This proved to be fatal and she died shortly afterwards.”

Outed in the press, she may have faked her death in 1931, or may have really died months after her fifth operation, an operation that she hoped would allow her to have intercourse with the man to whom she was engaged to be married… Her story is told in frank and loving terms in her book, Man Into Woman, edited by Niels Hoyer, 1933.
Both Lili and her partner, and legal wife before her surgery, Gerda Wegener, were well known painters and illustrators. But Gerda had far better commercial success and is still recognized today as one of the leading Art Deco artists of the early twentieth century.
Lili was one of Gerda’s favorite models, wearing women’s high fashion or nude. As a fashion designer in Paris, Gerda was influential in setting fashion trends. It is amusing to consider that the 1920’s small breasted feminine ideal may have been influenced by Lili’s figure.

I think australia will be spectacular. There are not to many true auteur directors left in hollywood, and Baz is one of them. I think that this film will probably be his best, because it is a movie about his home. The passion is there for all of the players. People will be very surprised by how well this does( awards/ box office, etc). Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the budget is 140 million and he is not a wasteful director from what I know

Australia seems so much to be such a masterpiece! By far the movie with the greatest Oscar potential for this year in almost ALL categories. I really cant think even one movie that can be compared to this epic-romantic spectacle!!!! The definite winner of the 2009 OSCAR NIGHT!!! I just saw the new Australia podcast about the music composision of the film on youtube and the score seems to be fantastic!! HUGH JACKMAN is the most talented (plus gorgeous) leading man today. NICOLE KIDMAN is simply the greatest female star on the planet. BAZ LUHRMANN is such a genius

Sounds like a very intriguing project. We’ll just have to wait and see, as she has quite a few projects “attached” to her. This one and “Need” (Nic with Naomi Watts) probably stand a better chance than others as both projects have two A-list stars as leads, which may help in obtaining financial backing

@28 Arty, I wouldn’t brag about that movie line up. Nicole just said that she wanted to work less but yet she shows no signs of slowing down. She comes across as a liar or as somebody who has no priorities other than her career. And if she does show a photo of Sunday Rose on Oprah I will loose what little respect I have left for her. Using a child as promotional tool? And what about her husband? Does he have no say when HIS child is shown to the world? That would be completely disrespectful to him. But then Nicole already made sure that Sunday Rose was photographed quite well in London.
I’ve always admired about her is that she’s not afraid to take risks and doesn’t get into a stereo typed rut like a lot of the Hollywood actresses

since 2006, NK has spent most of her time making movies that don’t take too long to shoot. Only Australia has taken months to shoot. She worked on MATW, TGC for less than 3 months and she is working on NINE a small role for a few weeks . So, she can probably take projects that she won’t end up spending too much time on

I would say this is a TOTALLY different case than doing a photoshoot for a magazine. They didn’t have to let Sunday be exposed to an entire photoshoot team, being poked around by photogs to “pose” this way or that, and having full page photos splashed around the world. She’s just showing a personal photo, which may have been taken by Keith, a friend or relative. And she’s NOT selling that photo.
If Nic is showing a photo of Sunday , i doubt it will be the one taken from the paps !!!

Interesting. This is a fascinating story. I was unfamiliar with this couple. Anand Tucker was originally slated to have directed The Golden Compass. It’s great that he and Kidman will finally get to work together. I dig Kidman’s portrayals of artists, Woolf and Arbus. I am looking forward to this.

Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America this morning was showing some gorgeous scenery of Australia, which segued into Australian stars, and then mentioned that Hugh is going to be on Good Morning America tomorrow, Tuesday. Nothing about Nicole yet, but I bet she’s either Wednesday or Thursday.

Kidman is too much of a stiff ice queen all the time in her roles. I don’t respect any actress shallow enough to botox their face to death. Bottom line is we would not know who she was without Tom Cruise in the first place.
Charlize is a natural beauty and the underrated actress here. I’ll see the movie for her but not Nicole. Her performance in Monster is WOW. Girl could act. Kidman, I don’t even think she deserved her Oscar for the Hours anyway.
