checked out the tmz video - there is something weird about this. i am not usually one of the conspiracy theorists but: (1) he never gets caught with a girl, much less making out with one (2) he looks directly at the camera after the kiss (3) they apparently go their separate ways after a kiss that says they are not going their separate ways and (4) she is right there to speak with the paps afterward. this is very unlike him. could be legit and, if so, good for him - she is very pretty. but it is very odd for him.

If he’s out there showing it off…..it isn’t the real deal. He keeps his private life private and the only public kissing he does is up on the silver screen. Get real people, she’s razzi window dressing and JJ fell for it hook, line, and sinker….and so did TMZ. ROFLMAO!

Why does there have to be a set up or a story behind what is going on here. This is a man on a date with a woman in Santa Monica. The paps swarm this area all the time. They were there playing games and it takes nothing for a passerby or store front owner to inform the paps that a celeb is there and then they are on the spot to shoot them kissing. Big Deal! Gerry is private and I doubt he knew he was being filmed or photographed and today is probably upset about it. When he looks up we have no idea if he is looking at what he thinks might be paps or some person in the arcade that might have got his attention. In any case, if he did notice the paps, which it sems he might have, notice he then did not go on with the kissing and they left seperately. Most likely they hookedup later - how could you NOT after a kiss like that.

Yo Dan, even Robertson Blvd is a ghost town unless someone calls the paps and tells them a star is there. So what if I give a different point of view about Gerry? I just became over him this week after I saw the stupid Rooster hat. I am trying to find a new celebrity boyfriend now. I think Hugh Jackman after I see Australia should do the trick :)

Everyone here got angry with me a few weeks ago when I said the man has a preference for women of color, especially if that color is black. Now you have proof. Many British men love women of color and Gerry is no different.

He is playing the razzi game. The photos of him in his car the other day show him with his cell phone up and a big smile on his face. If you look where he’s holding the cell phone, his finger is on the camera button and it’s aimed at the razzi. He’s snapping a photo of the razzi who are photographing him. The smile on his face is probably because he’s laughing at them because they don’t realize he’s taking their picture. He’ll probably show how they are hounding him and have photographic evidence of it when that razzi he punched takes him to civil court.

Someone said it would be pretty soon that he’d let the cat out of the bag and do a big PDA with one of the women he’s seeing. Maybe she was in the limo the night that he punched the razzi and he didn’t want her photographed. He probably has a few in play.

I first fell in “lust” with him watching that mini-series…and in the dvd, Simone when asked about falling for Gerard said, “It’s not hard. He’s amazing.” I thought there might be something to it! I also saw a Bridget on one site or another (I cannot remember), and she said she had dated GB back before POTO. I dismissed her as one with wishful thinking..maybe ,however, she was truthful! If fans become disillusioned with an actor, they have only themselves to blame. Gerry is not an image or a perfect human being… nor has he ever claimed to be so. He is just a man, a human being who has played some great roles, and through those roles and his on screen persona, he has charmed us. Those characters may reveal part of who he is…. but there are other aspects of his personality known only to himself and his closest friends and family.

It is unfair and silly to place him on a pedestal. With all the attention and press following his success in 300, we are seeing more of who he really is, and if fans don’t like him anymore….fine, but why not just move on? Why trash the man?

All this argument and speculation amazes me constantly. I wonder why it is necessary to skewer people (wit deleted swear words and insults sometims) who write in giving opinions that differ from yours. I don’t know why I am in on this at all. I don’t know half the stuff people are ragging about or the people contributors are talking about, can’t imagine what it must be like to live in L.A. in this kind of smoky, snoopy, gossipy atmosphere. I agree this whole thing is extremely weird. She looks as if she almost poses for the paps. And when you watch the video you see that she even asks a pap to repeat his question she didn’t understand. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by the paps at all. Also, I wonder why she didn’t leave the pier with Gerry, why on earth does she stand there all by herself with the paps? If I was dating a celebrity I’d be mortified if I was left stranded with a bunch of paps surrounding me. I’d run away as fast as I could. But she doesn’t seem to be intimidated at all. Even if Gerry just went to get the car (but then there should be pictures of him returning), I for my part would have gone with him instead of waiting on the pier with all the paps. That doesn’t make any sense at all unless someone wanted her 15 minutes of fame.

Also, is the Santa Monica pier a known pap hangout? If so, why did they go on a date there in the first place? And if not, why were the paps there? Who told them it was worth their time showing up at the pier? A random bypasser who recognized Gerry? Gerry himself (which doesn’t make sense to me - if he just wanted to be seen with a girl, he could have staged it with more class). The girl? The paps seemed to be very friendly to her, not herassing her at all. Something about this just doesn’t add up.

Light up… If a celebrity goes to a public place they know they might get caught. Don’t be so naive to think celebrities can’t have privacy if they want to. Apart from some real A-listers that can’t even leave their houses without having the razzis on their heels (which goes way too far IMO), most celebs know very well how to fly under the radar. They could date for months and years without the public ever knowing about it. They don’t just “forget” they are in Hollywood. With respect to comments #142 and #144, no, you don’t need people’s permission, celebrity or not, to take pictures of them in a public place, such as the street, Santa Monica Pier, etc. I speak as one who has worked in the media and with photographers for years. Years ago it used to be that if you (the subject) knew where your picture was to be used, you could submit a written request to the publication not to have it used, but now, with the Internet, digital cameras in everyone’s hands, the paparazzi all over, etc. I don’t know how you can control that any more.

#157 Actually this woman is just another notch on the good ole bedpost. At the time of this “date” he was still in a relationship with Jasmine, his girlfriend from NY. She heard about his low down cheating and dumped his cheating booty that same day the video was all over the internet. I don’t know who Tina (#162) is but again this comment has the ring of truth. I’ve kind of zeroed in on the same instincts. I think I unconsciously saw things that made me uneasy even when Butler seemd arising actor who had overcome adversity and I became interested in tracking his rise to fame. I was impressed by the way he transformed himself into King Leonidas, a character clearly very different from him and much bigger. I was impressed that he applied himself to singing for Phantom (not that he is any Placido Domingo; there are some pretty raw notes in his delivery.) But he DID it. He was game for the challenge and pulled it off dramatically if imperfectly. And he allowed his handsome face to be uglified for the Phantom role, which some vain male actors would not do. I felt this is a guy who cares more about playing the role honestly than promoting his good looks. Knowing as little as I do about him, I didn’t know if he had changed, if he was not what he seemed from the start, if he was unraveling under the pressure of fame aided by weaknesses of his own, and many other people seem to be having the same reservations as I do after the initial flush of his sudden (to most Americans) success. It fascinates me the way life plays out. I’ve spent my working life mostly as a journalist, never involved in celebrity news (although I did some business stories for Hollywood Reporter, Wall Street Journal and Australian Film Review in years past). I have had a very good reputation as a fair, accurate, tough but compassionate and honest journalist, just in case someone here wants to take a potshot at me for lack of credentials. I learned early that a good reporter knows more than he reports,tough on people who deserve it, but you don’t invade private lives or hurt innocent people without reason. Now we have the Internet and people who don’t know the rules letting fly gossip, rumour and nastiness not only toward the target but toward each other. If y’all knew how old-fashioned journalists discussed stories and whether this should go out to the public, the balance between public interest and personal privacy, you would have more respect for the REAL journalists who do their job right, not the paps orb hoi polloi who think it’s OK to print rumours and nastiness on the Web, anonymously with no repercussions.
Whatever else he may be, his faults, the size of his *****, the mean comments contributors direct ed at each other on this site, all that matters is the truth. I like to think I have a nose for it, but maybe I don’t. A journalist listens to everyone who talks, sifting information, checking it out, going by an instinct that grows over the years.

Wow, what an interesting threat this is turning out to be. I have been a fan of Gerry’s for about 4 years now having stumbled upon the Phantom of the Opera DVD one day. While I have enjoyed watching his career progress I have always been mindful of what he is - a human being who is an actor by profession and, as such, has applied his craft and provided many hours of entertainment, whether it be good or bad. I actually enjoyed him in RocknRolla, even though the film itself wasn’t that great. I don’t consider him a God and my gut feeling has always been that he isn’t the “Mr. Nice Guy” he is perceived to be and that behind closed doors he can be a total A….hole! The latter seems to be holding true of late, and I am finding I am turning-off of him, but haven’t really figured out why. His recent actions leave me shaking my head for many reasons; he is supposedly not a stupid man and he can disappear and re-appear at whim, which is why when I first saw the “kiss” I thought it was staged. Having read what #163 said, it may have been a well planned set up to get Jasmine to dump him because he isn’t man enough to dump her. It would be interesting to find out in all his past relationships who has dumped who; my guess is that it’s been the women who have done the dumping. He himself has said he likes long relationships, but even those come to an end. I find it hard to fathom that he hasn’t found his “true love” yet. #176 may be right in that this girl is now history, she has served her purpose. I agree with #202 that the mistake he has made is actually making reference in a few articles lately that he was seeing some girl from NYC. In the past he has been known to say “oh I’ve just been in a relationship but we broke up” etc but has not been known for actually talking about current “girlfriends” so we’d all be forgiven for thinking he did have a sort of significant other and that it was more serious than casual - hell maybe the significant other thought so too.

If anyone has read the blog Fresh Brewed the guy who deals with alot of Cipriani nights in New York he mentions Gerry on occasion http://freshbrewed.wordpress.com/ and on his Aug 7 blog he enquires as to why Gerry did not come to the Karaoke night and Gerry said he had to ask for permission so those who know Gerry know he was at least dating someone back then and felt they were able to put it in their online blog for all to see!!.

What I will say is the Vogue article where he first mentions seeing “the nice girl from NYC” while it only came out recently chances are the interview was done weeks even maybe a few months before the mag came out and chances are with him being in New York for a while pretty much up to the PR started for RnR maybe he was in a position where he felt settled with her so felt comfortable enough to admit it during the early PR for the film but he has been all over the place since late Aug/early Sep and feelings can change when your so called SO is not by your side and your a normal bloke with alot of urges.

I’m a firm believer that when he was in New York he saw Jasmine and I suspect at the start of the relationship made it very clear to her that when they were together they were together but when they were apart they were apart and he has hardly been in New York since the whirlwind started with RnR. Obviously none of us are privvy to what conversations go on between them and if he has led her to believe it was not just a casual relationship. The recent comments about dating someone would personally lead me to believe this but as I said even the online interviews where he made the odd comment were all done early September and it is now November so alot can change in that time.

These comments are incredible. Does anyone know the truth about Mr. Butler? So many claims made are outrageous. He may well be doing many outrageous things. It seems pretty obvious that fame has gone to his head, I guess people can get carried away with their success and riches, and do a lot of things because they can get away with it (Bill Clinton admitted to that) but I can’t believe even this celluloid fabricated sex god so many women worship and adore can get women to line up against a wall and drop their pants to be sniffed. The thing that bothers me most about Gerard Butler is that we have heard ad infinitum about what an intelligent man he is, top of the class in law school etc. and the story of how he got fired and took a big gamble on acting and quit drinking. This inspirational story has been written and rewritten and recycled endlessly.
Yet I have never seen that man. In interviews he behaves like a redneck and hillbilly (look up the ethnic origins of those slang derogatory terms if you don’t know ‘em, yeah, they were coined and applied to crude, uncouth, poor, uneducated Scots and Scots-Irish who settled Southern Appalachia in the 1700s. And I bet I’m really going to piss someone off saying that.) Butler opens his mouth and spills silliness and crude language. You can almost hear it coming before he speaks. He’s not even funny. What he says is just weird. Why do so many women think he is so funny and so REAL? He acts like a jerk and a jackass. No wonder TMZ has made him their running joke of the year. Do American men really like this guy when he has reportedly said he is more masculine than American men? Come on, someone speak up. I don’t hate the man, I don’t love him, I just think he needs to be put in perspective. I spent years as a reporter/writer/journalist and never worked for any media outlet that allowed lies and unproven gossip to see the light of day. My employers were very strict. about truth. I never paid attention to movie stars until I found the Butler phenomenon fascinating. All this stuff on TMZ and like sites and the Net is nuts. I almost want to move to L..A. now because it seems a lot more entertaining a place than where I live, with everyone seemingly bed hopping and claiming to sleep with movie stars and everyone else, seeing celebrities everywhere they go and trading wild stories about who was and wasn’t at a premiere! The few people I know who live in L.A. hold down normal jobs and live normal lives and say they never even see these famous people.

I know some of the boards have mentioned Kristi’s name before, but this weekend the Star mag published it. And, last time I talked to Kris, she was shocked, dismayed and frustrated. We both had no idea of the level of disinformation about her circulating around the Internet.

Surprisingly, the info in the Star is pretty much to true, but how did they validate it?

I do know, however, that the men I have known in my life (friends or otherwise) respect women who are not *****. Not saying you have to wait for marriage, but at least wait for a few dates. This is a basic relationship rule - tried and true.

Why do people always asume that celebs dont use protection?
Not just Gerry but I see these comments on many sites about celebs F*ing around without protection and warnings about STD’s.

If I have a date and have sex with that person I USE PROTECTION.PERIOD.
It is not like we live in the 50’s anymore and only guys should buy condoms.I buy my own condoms and only have sex with one.

Asked in one interview if he would date a woman older than himself GB went on about how much he LIKES older women. Clearly this would entice his older fans. And by the by, perhaps I should qualify my comments about my own past activities. Yes, I do think there is a difference between groupies who hang around bars, nightclubs and celebrity hangouts hungry to hook up with some or any celebrity, and mature women (of any age) who make conscious, discriminating decisions to have a rewarding short term relationship with a good, kind, smart, discreet, mature, sensitive man, knowing that it is short term for whatever reasons exist, but still a valuable emotional connection. Still, I think these young women are just misguided in their choices, perhaps not very bright, let alone sophisticated; they don’t deserve revile from the men who are so willing to use them. In my own life, I actually sort of regret letting down a couple of kind, caring, loving, supportive, deserving men I DIDN’T sleep with, for whatever reasons I had at the time,–fear, conflict, prudishness,–than I did accommodating the couple of men I had too many drinks with and bagged and didn’t enjoy much. Mostly I think I made intelligent choices. But like Susan Sarandan lecturing her young friend in “Bull Durham,” who complained of being “lured” into locker room sex, I say (as closely as I can recall the quote) “Women are never lured. Repeat after me, I take full responsibility for my actions.” We all make decisions every day. Sometimes they are good, sometimes not. Being deliberately reckless and feckless is something else.
Men need to do this too, by the way. When anyone pitched the double standard to me, I asked why should I want a man who has such low standards he will do anything he can get away with rather than have a moral compass of his own? Blessings.

#276 Yes, I think I remember that quote. He was a bit strong there I admint. Here’s the thing - 300 was completed in Spring of 06 (I met him then and watched him work for 2 days up in Vancouver) The guy was anything but Hollywood then - but it’s easy to be laid back in Vancouver.

Yeah bulbul I had such high hopes after 300, PHANTOM too for that matter. I Think that BURNS would be such a great antidote to some of the noise we are hearing around this guy. He and his Production people could put the whole thing together in Scotland and get away from the glare of LA. Do you worry that he’s too old for BURNS role? Yes, I know about that “large shadow”…. dont know the guy in person but he sure has changed.I think the whole LA weirdness has got to him.And it makes me kind of sad to see him change like that,because there are actors out there who live work and breath LA without changing their personality.And be succesful too.

Being ‘a walking contradiction’ is what makes GB so fascinating. He’s serious, he’s goofy, he’s gorgeous, he’s educated, he can look like he just got out of bed at a ‘dress event ‘ or he can look like a model, he can be dramatic, he can be a comic. One minute he’s scruffy and the next he’s clean shaven and in a designer suit. Looking great either way. I think even the ‘popping the pap’ incident lends to his fascinating persona. One wonders, ‘Just who is GJB?’

He isn’t eating up all the publicity. God, some of the fans are putting it on him. He’s just trying to get a movie (LAC) made. A few years ago he could go out for dinner and no one would care. Now, he can’t go down the street without paps in his face and making up stories about what is going on. Is this what he wanted? Some would say, maybe so. I think he’s conflicted. Yeh, fame is nice, but so was anonimity. I adore this man. Let’s give this glorious man the benefit of the doubt. Following his career has made me happy. So be it.

Colette, I think I get your intent. But ya know….trying to parse out integrity in the celebrity press - now there’s a tall order. I mean we can’t even get it in the mainstream media.
So yeah pafan, I’ll gladly continue to give him benefit of doubt. After all a lot of the “doubt” comes form the static in these kinds of venues and it’s not his fault. He doesn’t ask for the hyper-coverage he gets, but might he not try harder to avoid it? If it’s bad now, wait till he collaborates with Aniston…he’ll pay heavily for that in the celeb press.

thanks for your response, that I am “thoughtful and articulate.” Yeah, you bet I’ve been “ripped on” for some of my comments, not only about this topic but about others. Also rewarded. Always have had th extremes as a journalist who likes to write controversy and that’s okay. If I am praised or attacked, at leat I know what people think. Maybe I shouldn’t sound off at all on what is really an insignificant issue. I’m trying to say I HEAR and READ a lot of stuff about GB and got concerned because I did admire him, started to follow his career, then started having doubts, discovered other people do too, and I am the first to admit I don’t know the truth. I try to dismiss a lot of stuff and go only by what I see him actually do and say on camera, and say in what I believe to be legitimate print interviews. But you try to look at the whole picture. His career doesn”t seem to have gone the way some of his fans expected. No, JJ doesn’t have the whole picture, but a photo of GB giving a paparazzo the finger doesn’t look faked. This kind of behavior, let alone punching a paparazzo, which seems to be documented, makes GB look bad in a country (U.S) which has supported him and helped him become rich and famous. .Hey, there are stars bigger than he who seem to be able to handle this attention. Some do it well, some do it badly. In my observations, the ones who are truly class acts do it well. What gossip have you seen lately about Meryl Streep? Any? People who become stars have to know what they are getting into when they make it big. I seem to be repeating myself, don’t know how to add any wisdom here. Maybe I have none.
