Gerard Butler Takes Date To Arcade
Gerard Butler and a gal pal go on a date together at the Santa Monica Pier arcade on Monday night on Ocean Front Walk, Calif.
The 38-year-old Scottish star and his probable new lady love had a blast, laughing and smiling the whole time. The pair played a game of air hockey together and other fun arcade games. Looks like the twosome won quite a few games from the number of prizes tickets they’re holding!
TMZ has a video of the couple kissing. Gerry may have snagged himself a gorgeous one!

I mean comment #274. Typo, sorry.
#276 and 277. That says it. Walking contradiction. Whatever works in the moment.
#276 Yes, I think I remember that quote. He was a bit strong there I admint. Here’s the thing - 300 was completed in Spring of 06 (I met him then and watched him work for 2 days up in Vancouver) The guy was anything but Hollywood then - but it’s easy to be laid back in Vancouver.
To a certain extent we are all evolving contradictions - must I be the same as I was 3 years ago - if I’m not does it negate all I said back then?
I think the guy is smart and he’s done enough navel gazing to be honest with himself. He’s becoming a creature of Hollywood. Can he turn away? I hope so - I’m betting on him…he’s a special kind of person.
4-yrfan. Yes, we are all evolving contradictions. I hope you are right. I really don’t want to engage in Gerry-bashing, especially unsubstantiated rumors. Look at the furor over his meetings with Jennifer Aniston, which apparently were business dealings over a movie. don’t care whom he dates. It’s just that he presented us with a very large persona after 300, with talk of ambitions to make the Burns movie, etc. He cast a very large shadow and suddenly he is Mr. Hollywood, partygoer, fashion model, socialite. It seems to go on without a game plan. Why are we even interested? I don’t know.
Yeah bulbul I had such high hopes after 300, PHANTOM too for that matter. I Think that BURNS would be such a great antidote to some of the noise we are hearing around this guy. He and his Production people could put the whole thing together in Scotland and get away from the glare of LA. Do you worry that he’s too old for BURNS role? Yes, I know about that “large shadow”…. I stood in it… I guess that’s when I drank the Kook Aid… so I’m not giving up yet.
He’s a poet
He’s a picker
He’s a prophet
He’s a pusher
He’s a pilgrim and a preacher and a problem when he’s stoned
He’s a walking contradiction
Partly truth and partly fiction
Taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home…
KK
I have only known about him since 300 and then forgot about him until PSILY….could not believe it was the same guy.
I think he needs to lose the publicist….period. Maybe even get new management. Lately, he seems to be misguided.
4 yr..what was that about??
You talking about GB?Stoned??
Thats new news to me then .LOL
dont know the guy in person but he sure has changed.I think the whole LA weirdness has got to him.And it makes me kind of sad to see him change like that, because there are actors out there who live work and breath LA without changing their personality. And be succesful too.
Seems like GB thinks he needs to roll with the hommies and the chickas to get in the spot light…while to me the opposite of all that is much more effective.JUST MY 2 CENTS.
Oh and JJ sweetie, wake up!!GB has been spotted and you forgot to mention it to us.Whats up?Cut the Cruise trip.
#283 - No, Gerry is a reformed addict …I was just quoting some old Kris
Kristopherson lyrics that reminded me of some of what Gerry is/was about.
Yes he’s back in LA and looking fabulous - the fan sits have the pix.
Peaches - have you seen “Dear Frankie” or “The Jury” …so great - he’s in top form.
Being ‘a walking contradiction’ is what makes GB so fascinating. He’s serious, he’s goofy, he’s gorgeous, he’s educated, he can look like he just got out of bed at a ‘dress event ‘ or he can look like a model, he can be dramatic, he can be a comic. One minute he’s scruffy and the next he’s clean shaven and in a designer suit. Looking great either way. I think even the ‘popping the pap’ incident lends to his fascinating persona. One wonders, ‘Just who is GJB?’
(aka Colette)
#285:
Fair enough. But my point was about the irony of the quote I was referring to - with trying to avoid questioning the level of integrity in what he was saying.
Colette,
He isn’t eating up all the publicity. God, some of the fans are putting it on him. He’s just trying to get a movie (LAC) made. A few years ago he could go out for dinner and no one would care. Now, he can’t go down the street without paps in his face and making up stories about what is going on. Is this what he wanted? Some would say, maybe so. I think he’s conflicted. Yeh, fame is nice, but so was anonimity. I adore this man. Let’s give this glorious man the benefit of the doubt. Following his career has made me happy. So be it.
PaFan?
yes…he does appear to be all of what you described…and if anything its a strength…no?
=0)
Colette, I think I get your intent. But ya know….trying to parse out integrity in the celebrity press - now there’s a tall order. I mean we can’t even get it in the mainstream media.
So yeah pafan, I’ll gladly continue to give him benefit of doubt. After all a lot of the “doubt” comes form the static in these kinds of venues and it’s not his fault. He doesn’t ask for the hyper-coverage he gets, but might he not try harder to avoid it? If it’s bad now, wait till he collaborates with Aniston…he’ll pay heavily for that in the celeb press.

I can’t believe I am even following up on this site since it seems to have all been said. But I am curious what you meant by
Yes, I know about that “large shadow”…. I stood in it.
Do you mean you just saw his potential the same way I thought I did or do you actually know him and worked with him?
Also you say:
But ya know….trying to parse out integrity in the celebrity press - now there’s a tall order. I mean we can’t even get it in the mainstream media.
Having been a reporter/writer/journalist in some very straight arrow media, I hope there is still integrity in the business. I believe there is, with media that employ well trained people who have integrity. But the entertainment press has always seemed to be full of gossip and sensationalism. And the internet has allowed all kinds of things to be published by people who are anonymous and aren’t held accountable for what they write. (Including me right now I guess.) Some people say celebrities don’t mind the gossip because at least it keeps their names out there and controversy afloat. We know they do engage in publicity stunts and always have since the movie business started. The late Molly Ivins, a Texas columnist of enormous repute, (if you don’t know her, read some of her stuff), once wrote a funny column about a local politician, calling him every name in the book, crook, scumbag, etc. She wrote that he called her up laughing and said, “Thank yew, little lady, for puttin’ mah name in yore column.” He didn’t give a damn about any of her accusations. I feel sure a lot of Hollywood celebs are playing the press intentionally and laughing. A really good reporter won’t be sucked in by this. Do you ever see this kind of unattributed nonsense in The Wall Street Journal? A “Jen insider said…A friend of Brad said…”One thing I feel sure of, is that any really handsome male actor who makes is big will have two reactions, unless he is clearly a straight, married man with a family. 1) people will say he’s gay. 2) people of both sexes will solemnly swear they slept with him or have a close friend, or friends, who did. Hey, people may be telling the truth but who knows? I don’t know why I even revisited this site. There is something that compells me to want the record set straight so I guess I still do have some interest in Mr. Butler’s life and career, but like soOverHim, I am at the point where it takes too much energy to care. People who are very clear about who they are and what matters to them and stake their life on it have my admiration, not people who play games. Sure, we can all change and we do, we have that right. At one point in my life, I was involved as a journalist in a certain issue in my own community, and a local legislator who was one side of the issue changed his position drastically, went SO FAR the other way, beyond what anyone else had considered, that he got a major law passed. that was much more than anyone else had demanded. He did incredible soul searching. But he let the public know WHY he had changed his stand, going against his personal religious beliefs but with his political conscious, and led the community into a dramatic public decision nobody had so far considered. This man was my kind of hero was very impressive to me. Granted, movie stars don’t owe the public the kind of candor elected politicians do, but I think honesty works in anybody’s favor in the long run. Trickery and evasiveness don’t wear well for long. Sorry for the soapbox. It’s too long. Why do these sites get so addictive? I know better. But I hope for responses one way or another. When I see that someone HEARS what I say even if they disagree, I feel commenting was worth my time after all. I don’t like vicious, ugly, profane comments on GB or other commentators. We have incredible freedom of speech and discussion in this country. Let’s not abuse it.
bulbul,
I hear you, and I definitely appreciate your comments.
:o)
Bulbul, you know we’re gonna get ripped on for writing like this LOL but here goes:
Wow, Gerry is blessed to have an admirer who is so thoughtful and articulate. I do think we can run the chance of over thinking this stuff. If Gerry is on record of being, or aspiring to be, one sort of fellow and you see evidence of him being otherwise…well, what is your source? Tho JJ type places can be fun and entertaining, I’m not so sure it’s a place of true Butler enlightenment. On balance I’d say we see a very small glimpse of him in these candid shots coming and going about his life. I think most of us know that. I’d keep looking in the interviews - the ones with women interviewers. He was in a 3 hour mimi-series called The Jury and I don’t think he acted in it for a single second.
Bulbul, if you were writing a column in my newspaper - I’d read you for sure. These threads aren’t the place to take on bias in the media issues. But I gotta say, Molly Ivins was a peach!
So speaking of bias, I’m pretty tuned in to some of the gay assertions/assumptions I’m seeing in Gerry’s threads. For me, I’d say that that part of his celebrity is just so much “white noise” … maybe you’re figured that out. Here, I put you a case: if a man is straight and if in interviews and in print and he always says he’s straight - can 100 posts to the contrary make him gay? Not that I’m an authority, but I think GB holds up well with the application of reserved admiration and some good old common sense. Like me, he’s a bit of a contradiction, but he’s so much more than that too.
Oh - and the shadow question…yes, I’ve stood in it close enough to talk to him and watch him work. Yes, even close enough to smell him…and back then it was definitely Marlboros :-)
I enjoyed your thoughtful GB inspired rant Bulbul, hope i answered some of your questions… Here’s one of mine: If you give up on Gerry - what then????
um - I am pretty sure he never said he was straight - he did say he is not gay. Not the same thing.
Dear Ohbrother: Yes, indeed, he has said he is straight. There is a video clip somewhere in which an interviewer asks him a bunch of “answer these questions with the first thing that comes into mind.” One question in a long list is “straight or gay” and he says “straight.” Another is “a lover or a fighter” and he answers “fighter.” And, did you see the new celebrity movie star listing for 2008 that came out this morning? He made #10, knocking Tom Cruise down to 11. Way to go Gerry. We’ve known you were hot from the start.
no never saw it…..if you can find it please link it.
Pafan - glad to hear about the new celebrity movie star listing, but couldn’t find out where it is. Could you link it for us? Thanks!
Linking things is beyond my limited computer skills, but I came upon it by googling Gerald Butler under Google News. There are several related stories posted there now as well as a slew of them on the film with Jennifer Aniston.
Oh, forgot to mention, the star listing is that of IMDB, an affiliate of Amazon.com.

thanks for your response, that I am “thoughtful and articulate.” Yeah, you bet I’ve been “ripped on” for some of my comments, not only about this topic but about others. Also rewarded. Always have had th extremes as a journalist who likes to write controversy and that’s okay. If I am praised or attacked, at leat I know what people think. Maybe I shouldn’t sound off at all on what is really an insignificant issue. I’m trying to say I HEAR and READ a lot of stuff about GB and got concerned because I did admire him, started to follow his career, then started having doubts, discovered other people do too, and I am the first to admit I don’t know the truth. I try to dismiss a lot of stuff and go only by what I see him actually do and say on camera, and say in what I believe to be legitimate print interviews. But you try to look at the whole picture. His career doesn”t seem to have gone the way some of his fans expected. No, JJ doesn’t have the whole picture, but a photo of GB giving a paparazzo the finger doesn’t look faked. This kind of behavior, let alone punching a paparazzo, which seems to be documented, makes GB look bad in a country (U.S) which has supported him and helped him become rich and famous. .Hey, there are stars bigger than he who seem to be able to handle this attention. Some do it well, some do it badly. In my observations, the ones who are truly class acts do it well. What gossip have you seen lately about Meryl Streep? Any? People who become stars have to know what they are getting into when they make it big. I seem to be repeating myself, don’t know how to add any wisdom here. Maybe I have none.
I have no idea how I came back to this thread. And, I think that I am done with celebrity blogs after this one - and certainly won’t be following GB’s career anymore. These posts are in one word …crazy.
I can’t believe this article is over 1 month old already.
