Wanda Sykes: I’m Proud To Be Gay!

The New Adventures of Old Christine star Wanda Sykes is speaking about about being gay because of the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California. Here’s what the 44-year-old comedian told a crowd at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas on Saturday:

“[After Barack Obama was elected,] I thought, man we are moving in the right direction. And then at about 11 o’clock I was crushed. We took a huge leap forward and then got dragged 12 feet back. I felt like I was being attacked, personally attacked, our community was attacked. I got married Oct. 25, I don’t really talk about my sexual orientation, I felt like I was living my life, I wasn’t in the closet, but I was just living my life. Everybody who knows me personally, they know I’m gay. And that’s the way people should be able to live our lives, really. We shouldn’t have to be standing out here demanding something we automatically should have as citizens of this country. … They pissed off the wrong group of people. They have galvanized a community. We are so together now and we all want the same thing and we shouldn’t have to settle for less. Instead of having gay marriage in California, no, we’re gonna have gay marriage across the country. When my wife and I leave California, I want to have my marriage also recognized in Nevada, in Arizona, all the way to New York. … I’m proud to be a woman, I’m proud to be a black woman and I’m proud to be gay.

All of you saying negative things about gay people need to just stop. I realize that this is a public board and you can say whatever hateful stuff you want, but I can also call you on it and respectfully request that you cut it out.

Gay people are not asking for special rights, they are asking for the same ones heterosexual people have.

Gay people do not want to be in “holy matrimony” because they know that Christians think they are living in sin.

“Marriage” has never been legally defined as between a “man” and a “woman”. Prop 8 was proposed so that we could CHANGE the California Constitution to say that marriage is between a man and a woman, i.e. the language wasn’t there before and now it is. I know, I voted No on Prop 8. I read it on my ballot.

For “ick”: there are numerous examples of same sex relationships in nature, most obviously the gay penguins at the New York Zoo awhile ago.

Prop 8 wasn’t supposed to be on the ballot anyway. It literally took away the rights that were granted gay people last year.

Majority rule is not always right. If the majority ruled, black people would probably still be dealing with “separate but equal” schooling. That was destroyed by a court order, not by popular vote.

Gay people have all kinds of violence perpetrated against them; quite often by people who claim to be Christian.

Your religion, whatever it is, does not belong in politics, period. If you feel the need to live your life by and for your religion, do whatever you want. But don’t VOTE based on it. Voting is supposed to come from the most secular part of your brain. If you still disagree with homosexuality even if you take religion out of it, then whatever.

Bottom line: keep your religious beliefs out of the political process and out of the progress of this great country.

I am so sick and tired of homosexuals trying to link their sexual choices to Civil Rights. Your sexual preference is in no way equal to the fight that oppressed people have had to and are still waging across this globe.

Have sex with who you want but don’t look to heterosexuals to condone your sin. Even though you don’t agree with the Bible-only the parts that suit you, read all of it and accept all of it or, don’t accept any of it as instructed by God.

I personally don’t have a problem with who anyone sleeps with, but, I don’t want to have to witness two same sex people kissing, holding hands or showing any type of intimate affection in public, and I don’t think any young impressionable child should have to witness such sin.

I like Wanda Sykes’ comedy and I suspected she was gay. That’s her business, but don’t expect those of us who believe in God and have accepted his teachings and instructions to accept what God calls sinful behaviour.

Refer to the Bible: Romans 1: 20-32 . Sexual relationships between people of the same sex is a sin in the eyes of God.

Those who thought that America was ready to vote for a non-white President forgot that people who abhor racism are usually those who believe in God and Christ and follow the Bible truly.

We believe that all mankind and this whole world-heaven and earth was created by him. We believe and accept what God and
Christ and the Prophets-sent by God, say throughout the Bible. We, those of us who wholeheartedly accept the scripture as the word of God believe what the scriptures say, that you’re either with God or against God and that those who choose sin over righteousness will stand in judgement.

Those of us who accept the teaching of God understand that God is all-knowing and would never dare taunt God and mock his teachings. God always has the final say and determines all the outcomes, whether we believe and have accepted him or not.

The people of California have spoken. Accept it. Sexual orientation is not equatable with skin color, eye color, height- things no human being has control of when they’re created. Whether you’re molested, emotionally traumatized by some childhood sexual curiosity; or seduced into homosexuality as an adult in some way, you choose to continue with this behavior. With the help of God and Christ, any sinful behavior will be overcome, but you have to want to stop committing that sin.

For help, read the scriptures. Since Abraham believed, man has been turning to the one true God for assistance with everything. He’s waiting for anyone who is willing to call on his name, confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, believe that your sins are forgiven and go and sin no more( don’t committ that sin anymore). You will fail, but, continue trying, with daily prayer to God in Jesus’ name and any sinful behaviour will be overcome. Above all read your Bible daily to understand who we are and why we were created-to serve God in righteousness.

Satan that spiritual force of wickedness does everything possible to turn us away from God. He will bring sin into our lives-molesters, abusers, rapists, wicked parents; thus causing us to turn to sin ourselves. We then become so ashamed that we find it easier to continue sinning than to turn away from the sinful behaviour.

God is always waiting for us. He clearly states that he wants all his creation to be saved. However, there will come a time, according to the Bible that we will no longer receive the call to change our sinful behavior and time will run out on each of us.

Hopefully this message helps someone to understand that God loves you and is waiting for you to turn away from sin and come to him to receive salvation and forgiveness of sins throught Jesus Chist his only begotton Son.

“All of you saying negative things about gay people need to just stop. I realize that this is a public board and you can say whatever hateful stuff you want, but I can also call you on it and respectfully request that you cut it out.”

On this you and I agree.. improper speech should be stopped on both sides, even the side the posted a F**K Mormons sigb on the side of their house in Cali..

——

“Gay people are not asking for special rights, they are asking for the same ones heterosexual people have.”

Yes they are, as they already have the right to marry the other sex. What they wish to do, is re-define what Marriage means. That is a “special” right, in any one’s book.

——

“Gay people do not want to be in “holy matrimony” because they know that Christians think they are living in sin.”

The why do they wish to het Married? As that is what Marriage is..

——

““Marriage” has never been legally defined as between a “man” and a “woman”. Wrong, in many states and most counties, Marriage is just that.. between a Man and a Woman.

——

For “ick”: there are numerous examples of same sex relationships in nature, most obviously the gay penguins at the New York Zoo awhile ago.

——

“Prop 8 wasn’t supposed to be on the ballot anyway. It literally took away the rights that were granted gay people last year.”

Again, you are wrong.. Gays have the same Right as I do, to marry a member of the other sex..

——

“Majority rule is not always right. If the majority ruled, black people would probably still be dealing with “separate but equal” schooling. That was destroyed by a court order, not by popular vote.”

This two issues are not even close.. as one is based on a Race and the other a Lifestyle Choice.

——

“Gay people have all kinds of violence perpetrated against them; quite often by people who claim to be Christian.”

As do every other group.. why do they get to have “special” rights, that I do not have.. isn’t this about being Equal?

Sorry, but no matter your views, There is NO section of the Constitution or Bill of Rights, that state Faith MUST be removed from Politics. And many if not ALL of our Founding Fathers, spoke to being moral and having Faith in a Higher Being.

______

“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.”

“Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God. ”

“Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. ”

All George Washington.. Father of out Nation..

Sorry for the typos.. this site needs a preview option..

I’m thinking that gays might have a better chance of getting laws on the books and equal rights for “civil unions” than they have of redefining marriage. Why are they fighting so hard for marriage? If it’s about equal rights, why do they really care how they legal obtain those equal rights. Blacks asked for equal rights…they never asked to be white.

It really bothers me to read all the hate, but I do understand that freedom of speech is our right. However, it pains me to hear people talk about how gay people have the choice to be that way. I worked in genetics for many years and there’s a homosexual gene. What person chooses to be discriminated against? What person chooses to be fired and not hired? What person wants to have their right to adopt taken away? Who chooses to loose there family members especially the ones that raised and loved them?

People, straight parents created you and me..not gay ones!! So the idea that somehow it is a choice is just absurd. It saddens me to watch the suicide for gays continously go up, because of the fear to be free. I’m an African-American female and the rise of HIV amongst straight AA females are unreal. Why? Because AA men are on the DL!! I would rather people be honest and love one another.

Also, to use Leviticus as a way to display your hate is just hypocritical. You need to research more and learn that it was written for a specific group because they were having sex in the pagan temples. Beards and eating shellfish are also in that passage, but I bet the seafood houses around this country stay packed!! In the new testament love between mankind was encouraged, not hating!!

Take Care and Much Love to You All

“I worked in genetics for many years and there’s a homosexual gene”

Sorry.. But so does my wife and I have read ALL the reports on this issue. Pro and Con. And no where has there been any proof of your claim. Claims, yes.. 100% Proof.. No,

James..sure you have read every report. I respect your opinion and hope that you will do some more research on this issue. I just wish people will realize that gay, straight, bi, trans, we’re all human. Who would you rather be associated with? A creepy pedophile or a loving GLBT?

Common Sense @ 11/19/2008 at 7:32 pm

Sillyme, you are either woefully uninformed, misinformed, or just
choose to be ignorant–please read what Tony wrote previously….gay
rights most certainly are a Civil Rights issue and if you don’t think
gay people or people who are just PERCEIVED as gay are taking beatings, I’d like to know where you live–there have been at least 3
incidents in the last year near my community in Rochester, NY–2
men were beaten severly, one so badly he has to learn to walk again
a year later…one incident was a group of men & women attacked and
when the police arrived, they arrested the victims instead of the attackers…you probably have no idea what that feels like because you
can walk down the street holding your date’s hand without being
harassed, say nothing of marrying whomever you choose. Oh, and if
you watched the election coverage at all, the stats were made quite
clear–Obama won because 61 percent of the voters who voted for
him were white–there was a large turnout for all groups including the
black vote but they accounted for less than 25 percent of his total vote…very hard for gay people to understand why then an estimated 70-80 percent of black voters in CA voted for Prop 8–they should understand being denied their constitutional civil rights better than anyone.

Common Sense @ 11/19/2008 at 7:43 pm

This is for Oh Please! Think about your comment about sexual orientation being a choice, unlike the color of one’s eye, skin or hair–really? If someone (even God) told you that you must change your
sexual orientation could you? Of course not, so why do you think
anyone else can? Get a clue please.

If you are so proud of being gay, Wanda, and you have this “community”; why do you care what heteros think and want to get into their churches and their institutions and change it to YOUR way. Is it perhaps that you are a wee bit guilty and know what you are doing is wrong? Yes, I think so. I think you need affirmation from heteros that you are OK. If you are really proud of who you are, you don’t need affirmation from anyone.
