Rihanna: My New Wrist Tattoo is Tribal!
Rihanna shows off the new tattoo on her right wrist at a party sponsored by Gucci called the Tattoo Heart Collection to Benefit UNICEF at NYC’s Plaza Hotel on Wednesday. (Boyfriend Chris Brown has a matching one, as well as matching clusters of stars on their necks.)
The 20-year-old Bajan beauty said she got the Maori-inspired geometric design in New Zealand and explained, “It’s tribal. It represents strength and love. It’s their traditional way of tattooing. I always wanted [one]… [But] it hurt like hell!”
Other pictures include Rihanna (red dress) at the launch of the Tattoo Heart Collection also at The Plaza Hotel.

I don’t know where to start on the hair. I think she looked better either with long hair or a bob. The dresses don’t suit her and when I saw the tattoo, I wasn’t really concentrating on that. Instead, I noticed the Cartier love bracelet on her hand. I never really noticed it until now but if I see one on Chris Brown too, I can’t help but say: ‘Aww!’

Im from New Zealand and I think it’s great that she wanted to get a traditional maori tattoo, I don’t know much about the maori culture. But I think it’s nice that fact that she chose a tattoo with a meaning behind it, instead of just chosing one based on it just looking cool.

It doesnt look like a genuine Maori tattoo, she may have had it done backstage in New Zealand but it looks more contemporary than traditional.
One article I read talks about it being done “traditionally” too, if that’s the case, it will look different because it would’ve been done old school style … tap tap with bone chisel and hammer.
Having had a whole arm sleeve done that way, I can also verify how much it hurts.
The tattoo looks fake because it’s still quite fresh, it hasn’t healed yet!

Dang, these bloggers are hating bad. I think Rihanna looks beautiful in all the pics. And tattoos give people a uniqueness and you’ll always have a story to tell. I have three tats and I know that I will get two more. Maybe more. It said that she wanted to get the tattoo done the original way, but it’s more painful than the needles. Ppl are getting it misunderstood with her saying that the needles hurt. If that was the case, then why would she keep getting them. I think ppl come on these things personally 2 hate because maybe they are unhappy with themselves. I absolutely love Rihanna.

Bro she’s got a mean tat ow, she’s a cultural girl. You know Maori tattoos (ta moko) are very strong and powerful artwork, everyone has their own meaning on what they want done therefore the tattooist will design a pattern right on the spot.

I am Maori and I love this tat. I never would have thought of putting a Maori tat on the wrist but this is awesome and a very beautiful one at that and as for you stupid ass Maori’s who keep saying that other people shouldn’t wear our tattooing I mean come on you idiots it is no big deal and it is not Tapu (too sacred) for someone to have a Maori tat apart from a Moko so get over it! And for all of you saying that it is ugly, that is because you do not appreciate true and native art that symbolizes something more and deeper that has been created through out hundreds of years.
