People Magazine: NY Times is Bogus
Larry Hackett, managing editor for People magazine, just sent this email to staffers to address the recent NYTimes piece titled “Angelina Jolie’s Carefully Orchestrated Image”:
“I don’t normally address press stories about how we do our business here at People. But today’s New York Times pg. 1 story about Angelina Jolie requires a response. In the lede, the story strongly suggests that People, while negotiating for the twins pictures, had explicit conversations about our “editorial plan” and made ‘a promise’ that coverage would be positive.
“These sorts of stories have appeared in media gossip columns before. I have ignored them in the past as the unfortunate fallout of competition and sour grapes. But today’s story, in a much different venue, takes these rumors to a new level, so let me be absolutely clear: The suggestion that we have ever made any promise of positive coverage, or have submitted an editorial plan, is completely false. That I or anyone else would promise, on paper or verbally, to purposely slant coverage as condition for acquiring pictures, is insulting to all of us.
“Here’s what is true: Celebrities-and senators and business executives and athletes-are always trying to bend stories their way. We deal with that pressure every single day and engage in many conversations regarding all elements of coverage. Angelina Jolie is very candid about wanting attention for her charitable efforts, and we have covered many of them because we believe they are interesting stories. But in doing so, we have never relinquished editorial control. There have been occasions when her goals and our needs could not be reconciled, and we have walked away, as we have with countless other story subjects.
“In our coverage of both celebrities and everyday people, People certainly often celebrates their accomplishments and milestones. To say that our coverage of Angelina Jolie has not been admiring would be disingenuous. But the suggestion in today’s Times that this ‘positive’ coverage is codified and promised is totally bogus, and needs to be rejected.”

ROFLMAO at this post re Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest Goop tidibit about brining a turkey posted on deceiver…ahahahahaha….
Minnow
Nov 24th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
Gweneth’s lying.
Know how I know?
Because I’ve actually brined a turkey. A whole damn turkey.
Only someone who’s never brined a turkey suggests how easy it is to brine a turkey.
First off, it takes like a whole box of kosher salt. And the only thing big enough for the poultry carcass is a big 25 gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck tote. Once you fill the roughneck with a pound of salt, the 28 pound dinosaur, and 10-15 gallons of cold water, you still have to figure out how to keep it cold, ‘cuz it shorely isn’t gonna fit in your side by side.
So you drag it out the back door and pray the weather stays below 42 degrees but not below 32. And the entire time you’re dragging it, you’re slopping salmonella tainted turkey water all over your nice clean kitchen floor.
Then you have to consider how to keep the dog from invading the roughneck marination system. So you walk the dog on a leash in your own fenced-in backyard the 29 times he asks to go outside. And trust me, when your dog finds out that you have a dead turkey bathtub on the back deck, he will suddenly develop mysterious, vague, and persistent bladder problems.
And even then, you end up piling a bunch of lawn furniture on top of the roughneck to keep the raccoons out.
And at 2am you’re wide awake listening for bears, because bear are known to move lawn furniture in search of half-brined turkeys.
And I didn’t even get to the joyful part about chasing a slick, fully brined bird across the recently re-mopped kitchen floor.
THAT’s how I know Gwyneth is a big fat lying liar.

To the idot fans who keep going over to awards daily and writing 3 page rebuttals to any Angelina Jolie criticism or hate JUST STOP IT. YOU’RE DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD. You could be speaking the gospel but it gets lost in your long annoying rants. You come off like obsessed deranged fans who are no better than the haters. Idiots like you don’t make it hard for the rest of the sane fans.

ROTFLMAO. Puh-leeze. One of the mods over there is unabashedly pro-Angie and even made fun of X in the body of his thread text about the NY Times article calling her “Jennifer Malificent” and made fun ot the NYT putting her on the cover of their magazine while attacking Angie on their business page. Those two people know the score in HW and if you really think the fans comments are doing more harm than the comments of people actually familiar FIRST-HAND with the situation and the players, then you’re crazy. The end.
BTW - I think “Malificent” is actually a typo and it should be MalEficent. Take your pick of the following defitions. They’re ALL damning…
- doing evil or harm; harmfully malicious: maleficent destroyers of reputations
- Harmful or evil in intent or effect
- Doing evil to others; harmful; mischievous.

Breaking News: Brad Pitt says ‘Mr & Mrs Smith CHANGED MY LIFE!!!’
Bahahahaha.
I could be doubly evil, and go back and get the quote from the ‘Behind the Scenes,’ DVD where Doug or the producer says Brad told them all at the screening, ‘There’s a lot of love in that movie.’
(((Swoon))) (((Thud)))
:-D
Well this is hilarious. Unbelievable.
I am not sure if it was part of Aniston’s demands for a NY Times magazine cover that her name be once again linked with Brad’s or whether it was another section of the NY Times shoving it in Aniston’s face and reminding her where her real fame still comes from.
But Brad and Jen are a Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle answer. I just finished it and I refused to complete the J _ N answer.
78-Down. Brad and 86-down, e.g.
86-Down. See 78-Down [LOL! LOL! LOL!]
The answers are: 78-Down = J _ N [ won't fill it in, sorry]
86-Down = EXES
To me from now on J_n will just be “Ms. See 86-Down.” No name just a referral back to her status as an EX.
Here is a link to a blog I found that posts the finished puzzles so you can see it in all its glory or embarassment. I am sorry I found this site now. It will be too tempting to go there when I am stuck on my puzzles.

CLINT EASTWOOD: if there’s any cynicism about somebody who’s altruistic, somebody who’s trying to do some good in the world then that’s their problem. It’s not her problem. She’s doing it for her own well being and the well being of her family and her appreciation of life. And so every day you ask yourself there but for the grace goes I, and it puts you in that position.

Thank you for posting. GREAT INTERVIEW.

This is hilarious. Unbelievable.
I just finished the puzzle a few minutes ago and I didn’t know whether it was meant to be an insult - and to whom - or a laugh at someone’s expense.
I’m not sure if this was one of Aniston’s demands for the cover that her name be linked forever to Brad’s or it is just another section of the NY Times shoving in Aniston’s face the number one reason why she is famous or why anyone even knows who she is anymore.
But whatever the reason, Brad and J_n are two of the answers in this past Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle. Yes, the very same magazine that J_n is on the cover of.
78-Down. Brad and 86-Down, e.g.
86-Down. See 78-Down. LOL! LOL! LOL!
The answers to the above are:
86-Down = J_N [ Sorry, you'll have to figure it out yourself. ]
78-Down = EXES [ Again, LOL! LOL! LOL! ]
From now on to me Aniston will always be known as ” Ms. See 78-Down”
[My original post is lost so I'm reposting without the link - links seem to hang up my posts. Just google the exact wording of the clue and you can see the finished puzzle]
I put this thru the google translator guli, and this is what I got…
James Gray takes Brad Pitt in the Amazon
In the interview he just give our confers Cahiers du cinema, director James Gray (Two Lovers currently on the screen) mentions his next film, which should provide an opportunity for the director to leave Brighton Beach, Russian neighborhood in New York that he particularly likes. It is a biopic of Percy Fawcett, English explorer party in the early twentieth century to the discovery of a mythical city of gold Amazon before returning combat during the War of 14-18, then left Amazon with his son, where both are finally gone mad. Brad Pitt has brought this matter to Gray, who hopes to run at the end of next year for Paramount.

I’m afraid I agree. Posts that go overboard or have too much detail about them are given no credibility. So they don’t help.
Just temper your posts. Say this to yourselves. Less is more. Now say it again.
Does someone know what the little insert photo of angelina and brad on the copy of the Nice Matin celebrating the twins says?? The photo of Angie and Brad is sooo adorable.

it’s old news. I deciphered enough to know that it’s about a project Brad picked up for Plan B. There was a Variety story about it a few weeks ago as well. Plan B bought the rights to a story about an explorer who’s searching a mythical city in the Amazon that’s made of gold. It was based on a true story.
bahha paltry.
Thanks Clini and PT—appreciate it !

I don’t speak French, like I said, I deciphered enough to know they were talkin about a project Brad signed to Plan B earlier this year. It’s called the “Lost City of Z”. My guess is the story is saying that James Gray has signed on as the director. I don’t exactly consider this a coup because this guy’s last flick was the dud “Two Lovers” with Putrid and the now retired Joaquin Phoenix.

wow, that means Brad is coming to Brazil, for the first time for that new project.
LOL! I knew some of you, who post here, don’t have a very good education. As, most of you didn’t understand what the story was all about. Angelina, Brad and their Beautiful Family, they are awesome. They do good in this crazy world we live in. Why? do most of you, don’t like people who strive to do good? You won’t grow up, if you continue to live in your past. The best you can do is learn from your mistakes, and make a positive statement with your actions. Which is exactly what Brad and Angelina have done, and then some. What have some of you done lately? I bet you are proud that you donate your dollar at the check out counter? Brad and Angelina have done more than that and then some. Why don’t you give them the benefit of the doubt that they strive to do good with their lives and actions. Do you expect them to do EVERYTHING? And if they don’t, they deserve to be put down and trashed all the time? Some of you are sad and pathetic, to trash this Beautiful Family.

ROFLMAO, some of the things you whine about! I bet Gwyneth has a large house with a garage. That the temp could be kept at a decent temperature, duh! And it doesn’t sound that hard to me. You sound like a Drama Queen, making a mountain out of mole hill, LOL!
I don’t know why I can’t seem to remember this interview with Clint and Angie..maybe it’s when I had my accident or when I was on vacation…….Anyhoo..if you have already seen it sorry..but I enjoyed watching it.. soo I’ll share it again:)

Great story and update on MIR Project. Entire article at link.
Katrina survivor moves into the first Brad Pitt Make It Right home in the Lower 9th Ward
If Gloria Guy is captain of her family ship, then its helm lies in her new kitchen.
That’s where you’ll find her on Thursday, orchestrating a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for a group that includes five children, 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. It also is her birthday. She isn’t sure how many kinfolk will be crowding around her new kitchen counter. But the veteran cook — she used to bake for the Catholic schools — is ready.
“They come out of the woodwork, ” she said, laughing. “If I cook a case of ribs, they disappear. I’ve already cooked two turkeys and started the stuffed peppers.”
Guy moved into her new Lower 9th Ward home with six of her grandchildren in October, the first partner with the Make It Right organization to do so. The program, started by actor Brad Pitt, plans to build 150 houses for neighborhood residents who lost their homes to flooding after Hurricane Katrina.
Make It Right offers a choice of 13 house plans, and Guy, for several reasons, chose Concordia Architecture’s 1,600-square foot, four-bedroom, three-bath raised contemporary.

Cute Video at site.
Taraji P. Henson + The Curious Case of Benjamin Button = Oscar Nominee?
“The Oscar for best supporting actress goes to.. Taraji P. Henson!” Those could be the words spoken at the 2009 Academy Awards next February if the whispers about Taraji P. Henson’s performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is everything it’s said to be. The movie set for release on Christmas Day stars Brad Pitt who is born as an 80-year-old man and ages backward.. he becomes a child. If that’s not curious enough, how about the idea that Taraji P. Henson plays his mother.
Ok. That’s explainable. She’s his surrogate mother, and her performance is the talk of the flick.
The casting director, Laray Mayfield was impressed with Taraji in Hustle & Flow and invited her to audition for the role of Queenie in Benjamin Button. Like the film, it got a little weird. Taraji → “Laray was in tears. I’m thinking, ‘Wait, did she take her medicine?’ She said it was because she had found her Queenie, and we bonded. I do a lot of auditions, and they don’t necessarily go anywhere.. I wondered, ‘Did I get the job?’ They say work begets work, and it honestly does.” - Variety
“It’s an epic, that’s all I can say. It’s an epic. It’s like a modern-day Gone with the Wind. They don’t make films like this anymore. It’s beautiful to watch. The cinematography is going to blow you away. The message, the story… I mean, in the screenings grown men had to collect themselves before they could get up and leave. It’s one of those movies that will touch you in ways you’ve never been touched in a long time in film.”
