People Magazine: NY Times is Bogus

Larry Hackett, managing editor for People magazine, just sent this email to staffers to address the recent NYTimes piece titled “Angelina Jolie’s Carefully Orchestrated Image”:

“I don’t normally address press stories about how we do our business here at People. But today’s New York Times pg. 1 story about Angelina Jolie requires a response. In the lede, the story strongly suggests that People, while negotiating for the twins pictures, had explicit conversations about our “editorial plan” and made ‘a promise’ that coverage would be positive.

“These sorts of stories have appeared in media gossip columns before. I have ignored them in the past as the unfortunate fallout of competition and sour grapes. But today’s story, in a much different venue, takes these rumors to a new level, so let me be absolutely clear: The suggestion that we have ever made any promise of positive coverage, or have submitted an editorial plan, is completely false. That I or anyone else would promise, on paper or verbally, to purposely slant coverage as condition for acquiring pictures, is insulting to all of us.

“Here’s what is true: Celebrities-and senators and business executives and athletes-are always trying to bend stories their way. We deal with that pressure every single day and engage in many conversations regarding all elements of coverage. Angelina Jolie is very candid about wanting attention for her charitable efforts, and we have covered many of them because we believe they are interesting stories. But in doing so, we have never relinquished editorial control. There have been occasions when her goals and our needs could not be reconciled, and we have walked away, as we have with countless other story subjects.

“In our coverage of both celebrities and everyday people, People certainly often celebrates their accomplishments and milestones. To say that our coverage of Angelina Jolie has not been admiring would be disingenuous. But the suggestion in today’s Times that this ‘positive’ coverage is codified and promised is totally bogus, and needs to be rejected.”

Getting groceries has never been so enlightening…..reading the Star sh..t at the check out………Poor Jen didn’t have babies because until such a time as Brad stopped rutting around and cheating, she just couldn’t bring a child into the marriage. It just keeps getting sicker. Oh my gawd, the BS Huvane can buy.

++++++++++++++++

I saw that bull last week and was ROTFL in the grocery store. Star knows it’s X’s fans that buy their garbage rag. Otherwise you’d think they’d have spilled the beans on X’s supposedly lezbo affair - which happened BEFORE the supposed incident in their rag…and X’s coke & weed habits. They brought up Brad smoking a lot of pot - just like the NE wrote 3 weeks before…but notice how they carefully forget to say that there are no pix of Brad toking away, but X had to sue the ratzi to suppress pix of her and VV toking away in her backyard! So who’s got more to hide - X or Brad? Exactly.

Hola! Bonjour! Hi haterz!…the champ is here…

…anyways, TEAM lylian!!!…I think…hahhahahahah

ROTFLMAO. Sooo…the Rothstein btich will write this on a blog, but not publish it in her shitzy US Lies Weakly gig? And really…these people need to get a new schtick. THEY had ample opportunity to play up Brad’s role - like 4 years worth of opportunities - but have continued putting all the blame on Angie because that’s what sells. Too bad that site requires registration. Otherwise I’d give Rothstein an earful. The b#tch wrote a 150 page book on the demise of the Golden Couple but she can’t remember that Brad and X were done for nearly 2 years before Angie came along? THIS is why she’s still a tabloid hack and can’t get a job at a legit news organization…like the New York Times…

What is that Mara from the Dailey BEast nuts? I can not believe the hags that keep hanging on to this almost 5 year old break up. They must really be lonely spinsters. Poor JA, it seems like she will never shake them.

LOL ROTFLMBAO!!! What do you guys think is the cover story on Outa Touch tomorrow? Angelina is pregnant again and Fugly is freaking out. Do they just make sh*t up wholesale or what?

PT…..i wish you WOULD take the two minutes to register so you could rip this byotch a new one. I actually registered and left a comment……so sorry i didnt save a copy cos i dont think they’ll publish my comment (they ‘review’ your post then decide whether or not to post it HAAAAAAAA - HA! as Bart Smpson would say) LOL

Anyhoo, in my post i addressed that byotch, Mara (who penned the article) asking why it was that in all the years that Brad has had women, no one has ever accused him of being a cheater. yet, his ugly byotch X and her lemmings have the gall to try to defame this man’s character by saying he cheated with Angie. As if!

OMG….
Okay, call me late as the day is long, but I’m just now reading the Angelina quote I think from nyt (fell in love/mams)– I can’t believe this is the quote that started the whole uproar…is this what she really, actually said (below)?

“They haven’t seen a lot of our films yet, because they are a little young, but I’m looking forward to them one day discovering Mr and Mrs Smith,” she smiled. “They’re going to have a great laugh – to see when their parents actually met, and watch them fall in love and try to kill each other! And Madd was there while we were filming, so he was a part of it. It’s pretty extraordinary.””

She is CLEARLY talking about their characters in the film.

I am just floored that so many people got this wrong. I can understand tabloids taking the bait - but actual legit news regurgitating it?? Even Oprah?
What a shoddy press we have.
————————————————-

Thanks Cliniqua. It is unbelievable!
I had suspected this quote was taken out of context because it does NOT sound like Angelina at all, to proclaim the “where/when”, knowing how it could incite people…

How come there is no retraction/correction from the irresponsible press? As usual, Angelina takes the brunt of the media’s games.

The site incontention took angie out of the the five actresses nominated for the oscars. they replace her by Cate B. Hope the brad fanboys are happy now

NEW THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angie will probably not be nom for an oscar. There are forces out there are fighting against this. I am happy with her movie and feel that she did a d*** great job in it. I had said before the movie came out that I would not even think about awards for I don’t want to be disappointed. But I think that it will escape her this year also. Brad may get nom but I bet The guy that played Nixon will get it. How “CCOBB” may get best pic.
I’m ok if Angie does not get nom for we all know what a great actress she is and is not a part of the HW mafia. She does not play their games. Jen’s comment was not done accidently. All has been planned to bash Angie because she does not play the HW game.

to Cliniqua @ 11/25/2008 at 5:56 pm

No Clini, the article that started this whole uproar was from NYT article was dated October 15, 2008, titled “The Mommy Track, written by Mark Harris…Quote below:

“Nonetheless, she said she looks forward to day when she can put Mr&Mrs. Smith in the DVD player for children; “not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love.”

You’re clearly missing the truth about this latest episode of ‘let’s-quote-Angie-out-of-context-once-more.’

Just look at the timelines involved. The ORIGINAL quote occured in an interview in 2007, where Angie speaks of her kids becoming old enough to see MMS and therefore see when their parents met and when they (that is, their CHARACTERS) fell in love AND THEN TRY TO KILL EACH OTHER (NB: that’s a clear reference to the PLOT of MMS - not their real lives).

The very recent refernce to this OLD COMMENT by Angie, which was regurgitated in this nyt article in Oct 2008, was just yet another lazy, sensationalist attempt to revive the old, tired triangle.

But dont hold your breath that you wont see another round of this type of regurgitation again in 2009, 2010 and ad infinitum. Perhaps it will end when Brad and Angie become grandparents.

We can only dream…….

AND JENNIFER ANISTON SHOULD BE HANGED! AND I WILL GLADLY DO THE HONOR TO HANG THAT UGLY WH-ORE ANISTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie don’t get an Oscar then the organizers are domned for being biaised. Professionnals people in this industry should recognize where and what talent is about, and know the diffrence between a excellent actor or actress with a whiny TV sitcom actress wannabe!

HW and Oscars CEO will loose their credibility if Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie don’t get anything, if not the best Actor and best Actress this year. Personnal life and pofessionnal talent should not be entertwined.

I will boycott watching the Oscar FOR EVER if Brad Pitt and Angelina don’t get an OSCAR for their extraordinary talents, the choice of movies they made, their dedication to do their work during the filming and after the movie is out.
HW and Oscars people should be as professsionnal as theses two finest actors for the last 30 years!

New Brad Pitt Thread!!!!!!!!

loooooooove her!!!!

dark angel @ 11/26/2008 at 1:53 am

Statements taken out of context is nothing new. Media really loves sensationalism. Viewers/readers buy it. Sad.

As for me, I just trust my instinct. And it is telling me to just keep on believing in Angie. After all, it is her personality that made me adore her. Not the image she portrays on screen.

Peace!

Hiya JP fans!
