OlderPeople Magazine: NY Times is Bogus
Larry Hackett, managing editor for People magazine, just sent this email to staffers to address the recent NYTimes piece titled “Angelina Jolie’s Carefully Orchestrated Image”:
“I don’t normally address press stories about how we do our business here at People. But today’s New York Times pg. 1 story about Angelina Jolie requires a response. In the lede, the story strongly suggests that People, while negotiating for the twins pictures, had explicit conversations about our “editorial plan” and made ‘a promise’ that coverage would be positive.
“These sorts of stories have appeared in media gossip columns before. I have ignored them in the past as the unfortunate fallout of competition and sour grapes. But today’s story, in a much different venue, takes these rumors to a new level, so let me be absolutely clear: The suggestion that we have ever made any promise of positive coverage, or have submitted an editorial plan, is completely false. That I or anyone else would promise, on paper or verbally, to purposely slant coverage as condition for acquiring pictures, is insulting to all of us.
“Here’s what is true: Celebrities-and senators and business executives and athletes-are always trying to bend stories their way. We deal with that pressure every single day and engage in many conversations regarding all elements of coverage. Angelina Jolie is very candid about wanting attention for her charitable efforts, and we have covered many of them because we believe they are interesting stories. But in doing so, we have never relinquished editorial control. There have been occasions when her goals and our needs could not be reconciled, and we have walked away, as we have with countless other story subjects.
“In our coverage of both celebrities and everyday people, People certainly often celebrates their accomplishments and milestones. To say that our coverage of Angelina Jolie has not been admiring would be disingenuous. But the suggestion in today’s Times that this ‘positive’ coverage is codified and promised is totally bogus, and needs to be rejected.”

I read Angie’s comment about how they met at MMS & how their character fell in love & tried to kill each other, she was talking about the movie not that she fell in love with Brad on the set of MMS. The X read it wrong or misinformed. She should read the article over & over again.

Angelina is a manipulator and has obviously got all of you. She needs real friends who don’t just tell her what she wants to hear. I can’t understand all the cruel people on this site who say hateful things about people. You can have an opinion but it doesn’t have to be so…..I think Angelina is a mentally ill person and I hope she gets help. All the people who look past it are just encouraging her and enabling her. And don’t think for a second she doesn’t read things about herself ,another manipulation. She isn’t living an authentic life and if anyone tries to help her they get cut off. Angie is not lazy, being a mom is a job itself specially if you have 6 kids. Her priority is her family not being glamorous, I backed her decision 100 %. Brad backed her decision, who are you to judge her? (this is for you #928).
It’s too bad that People magazine was forced to lie about the New York Times article. We’re all wise to Angelina’s ways….she probably threatened to cut People magazine off entirely if they didn’t issue a denial.

Alienation of Affection and North Carolina Law
Alienation of Affection is a legal action (a tort) based on willful and malicious interference with marriage relations by a third party. In a divorce matter, Alienation of Affection actions are often brought along with Criminal Conversations actions.
For a plaintiff spouse to recover for Alienation of Affection, the following elements are required:
the parties to the marriage were happily married and genuine love and affection existed between them;
such love and affection was alienated and destroyed; and
the wrongful and malicious acts of the defendant brought about the loss and alienation of such love and affection.
The exclusive right of sexual intercourse is not the right protected in this type of case. The actual affection between spouses is the right protected. In fact, in-laws and religious organizations have been defendants in Alienation of Affection suits.
North Carolina juries have handed out big awards in Alienation of Affection cases. In 2001, a Greensboro jury awarded $2 million to the Plaintiff. Another jury awarded $1.2 million in 1997 in a Forsyth County case. Other awards include $1 million to an Alamance County woman,
