OlderCatherine Hardwicke Fired!!!
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been fired and won’t be returning to helm the sequel, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Sources reveal the acclaimed Thirteen director, “was difficult and irrational during the making of Twilight.” The franchise, which has already accrued $160+ million, headlined Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The film studio, Summit Entertainment, has started preparing the sequel New Moon and to contain costs, they are considering making third book Eclipse back to back.

UPDATE: The movie studio has released the following statement: “Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted Twilight film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for New Moon.
“I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon,” said Hardwicke. “Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story.”
“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the Twilight franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

He’s awesome as Dali in Little Ashes where he has a good script and brilliant director. Hopefully he’ll have at least a decent director and script for New Moon. I’d ditch Rosenberg the script writer as well. I really hope they just use the bookas an aide memoire and build up Pattinson’s role in New Moon. 2 hours of Stewart’s emotionless face is too much for me.”

Get a director that willplay hardball with the awful interfering Meyer. They really give her too much attention.
Give Pattinson lots more to do in the film. It would be madness to hardly hsow Pattinosn in New Moon as he is the franchises biggest asset. I for one only saw Twilight because of him.
I feel bad for her that they didn’t wait to announce this until she got back from Europe, but I’m fine with this. Though I loved Twilight (mostly for Robert), I did feel like it was poorly made. Robert deserves better. When he is directed properly, he is even more amazing!! Kristen, too. She could have done better. It’s in her. But the directing was poor.
New Moon needs to be epic, and I think with a new director, it can be. And they better inflate Robert’s role in it or I’ll be seriously disappointed! He’s why I returned again and again to see Twilight.
Hardwicke sucked. I want a director that will put a line through most of New moon and give Rob Pattinson a lot more screen time. I’ll be happy then. He is Twilight as far as I’m concerned.

I think you guys are right about Rob saving the film, but honestly, it wasn’t as bad as you guys are making it. Sure, Hardwicke wasn’t the best director, but she did an alright job. Frankly, I hope they get an excellent director for New Moon.

I think its awesome!! She sucks as a director! Completely Sucks! The whole time i watched Twilight i was mad at the director, it was exactly like Thirteen, i hated it. I hope someone big like steven speilberg or Tim Burton picks up the film. They are the BEST!
well if new moon is worse than twilight

The movie came with a fan base. The director had little to do with the frenzzie, until the movie was out in theatre.
I read the books, they are cheesy but very, very addictive…good teen reading I must say, but not great literature.
I am not a 100% movie fan, what drew me close to Twilight was the leads performances. Kristen was a bit wooden along the way, but Robert was awsome! Great acting, many may not approve, because is hard to isolate his acting from the crapy make-up and lame special effects!
He carried the heat in this movie!
They should do something for the new moon, becuase the book is just soooo boring.

It’s such a ****** thing to do…and now that Summit has opened the can of worms I wouldn’t be surprised if Hardwicke started reciprocating and telling the world Summit’s shady secrets…
damnnnn i havnt watched he movie since im in blooomin london buhh i saw her at the premier and she seeeeemed really nice n calm im guessing she derserves the boot with all the bad reviews fr0m fellow twilghters i just hope they get a really a good director cause it deserves it new moon is really emotional tooooo then eclipses*squeeeeeeeeeeels*

OF COURSE I WILL STILL SEE NEW MOON AND ECLIPSED, its sad that she is no longer the director but honestly as long as kristen and robert are still there their chemistry is perfect and so palpable that any director will be lucky
