Catherine Hardwicke Fired!!!
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been fired and won’t be returning to helm the sequel, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Sources reveal the acclaimed Thirteen director, “was difficult and irrational during the making of Twilight.” The franchise, which has already accrued $160+ million, headlined Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The film studio, Summit Entertainment, has started preparing the sequel New Moon and to contain costs, they are considering making third book Eclipse back to back.
WHAT DO YOU THINK of the firing of Hardwicke? Will you still see New Moon?
UPDATE: The movie studio has released the following statement: “Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted Twilight film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for New Moon.
“I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon,” said Hardwicke. “Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story.”
“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the Twilight franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

Catherine was adorable, but the end product was disappointing, and the bulk of that responsibility fell on her shoulders. That’s why she is gone, but they better hire a female director or else I’ll be pissed.
I LOVED twilight.
but i agree
a new director would me a better choice for the other movies..
Twilight is now a hollywood block buster film … they are going to need someone that has a lot more experieince filming films with big budgets .. Catherine’s records show that she is mostly an indie type of film maker..
I think Catherine is a great director though just not for Twiligt.. She’s fun and energetic and excites the cast every day and she seems to have a good connection with the cast so i’m sure they will be dissapointed.. but for the sake of the movie i truly think a new director is a good choice and also a new screen writer..
I enjoyed the movie and i LOVE the books and i also LOVED the movie .. but for New Moon i think it would be better to have another director.
I’m thankful for that. I felt the movie was poorly directed.
OMG thank GOD!!
I totally blame her for why Twilight sucked and not much like the book!
I personally just hope New Moon will be better than Twilight.
they better get a director who knows what the fans want !
and what kind of writer leaves out the best lines of the book !
how can you not have the Dazzling apart of the movie !
hahah
Kristen needs to… well just PRACTICE infront of a mirror or something :]
i think she’s beautiful tho.
that sucks who is going to make New Moon?????
Can we start a petition to recast? I’d like to see a chunk of the Cullen’s recast….esp Nikki Reed….too many lines were taken away from Alice due to she and Harwicke’s relationship!
what?? dang…
they better get a new director…and FAST because i can’t wait for New Moon. of course, i won’t be as excited about it because i HATE that book…it’s the worst one of the series…but, i’m still gonna see it.
whattt they need to do all the movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg i love twilight!!!!
A new director will be good for the franchise, but Twilight fans, be warned–the new director will most likely not be so reverential towards fans like Catherine was.
as long as they dont fire rob i’ll be fine.
I dont think the movie did that bad y is she smiling like that she looks really weird.I hope they dont change the story too much.
rob and kristen will stay, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the others get canned though. I think they are basically gonna start over from scratch, and that may be a good thing. That’s what they did with LAra Croft’s Tomb Raider franchise.
I love Catherine for adding Rob’s music to the movie, and maybe even for the casting of him. For that I am eternally grateful. She brought great enthusiasm to the Twilight promo experience. Heart her! But I’m kinda glad as bad as that sounds. She has GREAT actors, she really needed to redirect several scenes better. THEN NEED A NEW SCREENPLAY WRITER! That’s the one that needs to get fired.
Overall impression: YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
good god! i didnt think it was that bad…..but sure kristen and rob MADE the film. their intensity and truth made it transcend the sometimes awkward diretccion. flashbacks to the olden days anyone? gah…
Don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. New Moon is the weakest of the Twilight series, so I think it would have been a hard movie to make no matter who the director. I thought the movie Twilight was good casting wise, but the content wasn’t that great. Somehow though, I think that’s more the fault of the screenwriter than the director.
Gotta give Hardwicke her props though, she found a really great Edward. Kristen’s chemistry with Robert as Bella and Edward was pretty spot-on too. As they get more comfortable with each other, it should get better. Like the Harry Potter cast. I guess we’ll see how it goes…
wtf? recast?
if they recast that will look retarded and i wont watch it.
All of the cast are fine.
no one is gonna care about your petitions.
I dont care about the director.
But the cast.
how retarded will it be to have a different bella?
seriously.some of you chicks are just mad because it’s not you kissing edward.
Hopefully the next director will make a good movie.
I though Hardwicke did a terrible job on Twilight.
Thank Goodness! We deserve better movies :) Now they just need a better screenwriter for a better adaptation!
wtf
It’s fine if they change directors.
You cant blame the actor/actresses if they’re doing something because they’re being directed.
Why are you people blaming Kristen stewart/nikki reed and others.
Robert pattinson carried the movie alone? no.
Some people say he’s not even the right edward, but you fcks just like him because he’s hot.
i loved the movie, and i loved the book!! but the movie was kinda cheesy but it was still really good! and i think kristen stewart did an amazing job,, so stop putting her down! and i think new moon will be incredible even if there isnt as much of robert pattinson!! i mean taylor lautner is pretty too! and hopefully they will get a really good director for this one, and make not as cheesy.

I don’t think they are going to recastm all of the actors have already come out and said they they are signed on for the next 2 films…i like nikki reed as rosalie i don’t understand what the problem is…although i would definitey agree Twilight had moments of awkwardness I overall liked it. I feel like they got real actors to play this part and that’s what saved the movie, otherwise i would have been totally put off by some of the cheesy lines, which are from the book, so it’s hard to blame the screenwriter or director from words that came directly from the book.
