OlderCatherine Hardwicke Fired!!!
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been fired and won’t be returning to helm the sequel, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Sources reveal the acclaimed Thirteen director, “was difficult and irrational during the making of Twilight.” The franchise, which has already accrued $160+ million, headlined Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The film studio, Summit Entertainment, has started preparing the sequel New Moon and to contain costs, they are considering making third book Eclipse back to back.

UPDATE: The movie studio has released the following statement: “Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted Twilight film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for New Moon.
“I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon,” said Hardwicke. “Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story.”
“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the Twilight franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

i know why would you people blame kristen stewart?
Bella was suppose to be awkard, stupid, socially challenged and basically retarded. That’s what she did. Before you judge Kristen stewart as an actress watch other of her movies.
and plus, you already have the notion in your head and seeing the movie you’ll just over and over compare to the one you’re thinking about.
Some guys say the movie is cheesy.
HELLO!!! the movie wasnt suppose to be about vampires fighting and killing people.
it’s about bella and edward not living without each other because they’re in love. The complications of him being a vampire.
and the story isnt cheesy, because i find myself being in love with a fckin fictional character.
This is so sad man. New Moon won’t have the same feel as Twilight.
Rob Pattinson saved the film? DEFINITELY NOT. Half the time he was on the screen I was laughing at his facial expressions. I thought Kristen was the perfect Bella. Don’t hate.
Rob has expressed many times that the only reason he took this role was because of Catherine Hardwicke and Kristen Stewart. And with Catherine now gone, you better damn well hope Kristen stays on this movie or otherwise your beloved Mr. Pattinson will be saying goodbye as well.
First of all.
Twilight was suppose to be a low budget film. They had no money to start if off. They didnt realize the fan base was going to be millions of people.
So they made it with no expectation. Kristen stewart thought she was just doing another indie films. SHe said it herself, she doesnt like the attention so i’m pretty sure she wouldnt sign on it if she knew that girls would be criticizing her acting skills.
now, they have all that money in order to make it better so i’m pretty sure it will.

Okay people. Summit only gave her 30 something million dollars to shoot this film. Summit isn’t really a big to do filming company. Catherine did her best with what she got. As for the acting come on, how many ways can you say “I’ll protect you” an make it mean something?
A lot of you are just bashing the film because of its quality. People do have what they see in their heads and go in to see the movie and either like it or not. It’s what Catherine and the screenwriter saw so get the hell over it. It’s not your right to make it what you think it should look like.
If you don’t like her and what she’s doing to the saga then don’t see it, just stay away and leave your comments to yourself. A lot of people don’t bash others for their taste, why ruin our fun? Why do it? Catherine did the best job she could and of course people aren’t going to agree with you. So. What!
The actors make the movie, if it’s Robert Pattinson you’re going to see then go see it because of him. Just because you’re ragging on everyone else and it’s not your favorite actress up there doesn’t mean that the person who is already there sucks. Take it or leave it.

i’m so glad, cuz honestly i hated her style. the way she made the movie was horrendous. the part that i think was ridiculously stupid was the scene after bella blacksout during the attack and there’s like a series of weird flashbacks when meeting edward and all that stuff. sooooo effing dumb.
Well, honestly I think New Moon might be better off for getting a new director. Hopefully someone who specializes in special effects and romance. Is James Cameron available? I must give props for Catherine Hardwicke being the first female to have a 70 million first weekend, but mostly want to give her props for bringing Rob Pattinson into the spotlight. I agree with people who say he saved the film.
I am stoked. Catherine did good work with 13 and Doggtown but she missed the mark with Twilight. I wish her nothing but the best and I wont trash her or anything but I am thrilled that a new person will be taking the helm.
If Kristen and Nikki are pissed, they can both leave. Bella could be recast and Nikki was god-awful as Rosalie.
Robert Pattinson IS the Twilight franchise, so unless he *******, i dont care.

I thought the Harry Potter movies were better once they got the new director for Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire, and yet they still transitioned well with the first 2 movie adaptions
as long as New Moon isn’t bad, I will be happy no matter who directs it.
Also, I hope they give New Moon a bigger budget..
this is the right thing to do…she missed the mark…they also need a new screenwriter…Kristen and Robert are brilliant and deserve better material and better direction…

mixed thoughts about this…Its kind of a betrayal seeing as how successful Twilight was in the box office. Though personally I think Hardwicke did a crap job of making it. While I worry that there reasoning for firing her is how long her prep time is, I hope they aren’t going to do a rush job of it. But on the other hand, the books are about never aging vampires they can’t let to much time pass before they start shooting the next 3 it would look awful if they all aged 2-4-6 years between the films!
I was hoping they would fire the script writer more than anything but apparently she’s back. Oh well, guess we’ll just have to hope for the best!
Rob P. is the best thing since slice bread. I saw the movie before I read the book. Without having the vision of Rob P. in my head, I would have stopped reading the book after the first page. Let’s be real; the story is inanely stupid, cheesy, etc. The movie, was better than the book. Though, Kristen Stewart should be fired. Leighton from Gossip Girl should play Bella.

but Hardwicke’s option for HANDHELD cameras really spoiled it.
i had a hunch though that Twilight wouldnt be as good as the book -
i’d searched up about Hardwicke and read she had a lot of critically filmed movies she’d directed from the past with negative reviews. :/
*sighhh! i really hope NEW MOON will be better. it’s going to be so much BIGGER, and it would reallyy look bad if a lot of peoplesss will be disappointed in the end.

YESSS!!! thank goodness she’s not coming back! the movie was a complete disaster. kristen stewart should be fired right along side. now i can consider maybe watching the sequel. first movie was such a waste of money.
