Catherine Hardwicke Fired!!!
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been fired and won’t be returning to helm the sequel, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Sources reveal the acclaimed Thirteen director, “was difficult and irrational during the making of Twilight.” The franchise, which has already accrued $160+ million, headlined Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The film studio, Summit Entertainment, has started preparing the sequel New Moon and to contain costs, they are considering making third book Eclipse back to back.
WHAT DO YOU THINK of the firing of Hardwicke? Will you still see New Moon?
UPDATE: The movie studio has released the following statement: “Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted Twilight film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for New Moon.
“I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon,” said Hardwicke. “Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story.”
“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the Twilight franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

Recast Rosalie and Jacob!
WHAT?
MAYBE TWILIGHT WASS,T AS AWESOME AS THE BOOK BUT TO FIRE CATHERINE MIGH HAVE BEEN A GOOD CHICE IN SOME WAYS AND A BAD COICXE IN SOME IN A GOOD WAY IT MIGHT BE THAT NEW MOON WILL B BETTER BUT IN A BAD WAY THEY CAN BE MORE
1 IT WONT BE THE SAME SEEING NEW MOON FROM ANOTHER DIRECTORS IDEA
2 THEY NEED TO FIND ANOTHER DIRECTOR AYSAP
It’s almost LAUGHABLE how so many on this board are talking about how badly a movie on it’ s way to 250,000,000 woldwide was badly directed.
Lets be honest folks, really honest, the movies was a rousing success and now Miss Hardwicke will be replaced WITH A MAN because woman directors are not supposed to have that kind of success. Let’s call a spade a spade here.
And when women do have that kind of mega sucees they are offered lesser movies later on so the don’t challenge the boys.
im so glad they are changing directors! maybe the next one will actually do a good job at turning the novel into a movie. twilight’s acting was so bad and not to mention that it was changed almost completely from the book.
I havnt seen the movie yet since i live in australia but i think twilight isnt guna be good. kristen is a terrible actor and the only thing she is good for is her looks. She looks just like how i imagined bella. On one website she is described as ‘having the entertainment abilities of a bowl of oatmeal’!! and if anyone wants to check out this link (which i highly advise) you will deffinetly find it funny. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099212/goofs
my friend and i are going to take a copy of the website to the movie and see if its true!!
Praise the Lord! Maybe with a new director, “New Moon” will actually be as good as the book.
YES!! The storyline is golden, but the direction and script SUCKED!
oh thank GOD.
twilight the movie sucked
and i personally blame it all on her.
i hope the next movie is better.
its such a shame to see an awesome book turned
into a sucky movie =|
thank GOD!
she’s a awful director anyways? how did she manage to pull the **** that we call twilight out of her ass for Summit to approve to show in theatres?! RIDICULOUS! Glad they booted her! They should get Adam Shankman! lol DANCE NUMBERS EVERYWHERE!
Sorry Peggy, but Twilight is successful because girls/teens/women love Robert as Edward. He is the reason why this film has made as much as it has. People also knew going in that if they wanted to see the next installment (which everyone does) that they were going to have to go see this movie (regardless of whether it sucked major balls or not) in order to get the next one made. IDK, if Hardwicke wanted more money for herself or for the movie, but the money needs to go to Rob because Summit pimped out his A$$ all over the world to promote this thing. He isn’t the only reason for the success, but he should be allowed to have at least 95% credit for it.
forr sure, im glad she was fired, she didnt do a good job on twilight, even though it was somewhat good.
sooo im pretty sure once they find another for new moon, it’ll be way wayyyy better no matter who it is.
THEY NEED TO FIRED THE SCREENWRITTER TOO! please, i’m begging you Summit!
and thank you so much for taking catherine out of the picture. I mean twilight is not a really bad movie, but it can be way much better.
ps. can you please stop putting that white make-up on the actors please? thanks.
FINALLY! i was waiting for this… the movie was disappointing.
Summit better not recast the actors i luv them all nikki can go for all
i care but eveyone else must stay!
They should have fired Robert Pattinson.
Alot of people are forgetting the fact that Catherine is the one who found this diamond in the rough and is the reason it was made into a movie in the first place, and didn’t wind up as some crappy made for TV movie. The box office numbers alone should at least land her enough respect from Summit not to release this info while she’s marketing the film in Europe. I think that’s crap.
If they hire some male director who puts in alot of cool special effects but misses the whole point of the story, Twi fans will be pissed and New Moon will flop, and I will laugh my butt off.
You better hope whoever it is cares at least a bit about the true story. My guess is Summit doesn’t “get it”.
GOOD.
I’m so glad they are getting a new director. Twilight was directed so poorly i think this time around it will actually look high quality. This also means we don’t have to wait as long for the release of the second movie! sweet deal!
Thank god!
She was a really bad director. She cut so much crap from the book and making this movie only less than 2 hr’s and cramming so much **** in there. I seriously wonder why they would have casted some hippie to do it in the first place! She is a straight up weirdo. The next one will be better! I hope Sarah Polley does it. HAHA that seriously made my day! Wheooo!
Finally Sumit make a good decision. now it’s time for new screenwriteer
Well.. it happens doesn’t it? The inevitable passing of the torch. I couldn’t see Melissa and Catherine doing the whole saga- just doesn’t happen.
I DO think the book is what sold the movie. I don’t think I would have seen the movie had I not JUST read the series the month before. I read in an article review of the movie (RollingStone I think) that the movie was the coles notes version of the book. I had to agree(yet won’t stop me from buying the DVD). I certainly love the storyline, but I think the screenplay glossed over the parts that were intrical to the theme just to squeeze in as many characters as possible. I would have never had figured out the DEPTH of the love story had I not read the book. I honestly didn’t get why they set THAT part of the story to flashforwards and music playing out the intensity Bella and Edward had built their love story on.
Screenplay did have alot to contend with…but in the end.. it’s the directors vision. The bright side…other major series have contended with multiple directors and faired pretty well. HP, Batman, Terminator all have had multiple director changes….usually for the better. I hope that with New Moon, they have the sense to gloss over the mental breakdown with Jacob. We don’t need to know EVERY detail about the soap opera of being a werewolf. ;) I do however like Bella hearing Edward’s protective voice though.
Totally loved most of the cast. I kinda thought Rosalie wouldn’t have been a bottle blonde…but meh. What can you do. :) I loved Emmit and Charlie. Awesome casting.
Bring on change…change is good. ;) Best of luck to Catherine on her next project though.
I like the way how hollywood treats its older female directors
I saw the film, but the story was lame she had to work with a ****** story line.
hardwick is still just as good as others male directors
she not only discovered pattison and stewart gave an amazing performance. She choose the actors and made the film what it is
and it was a blockbuster.
but if you dont find any one else I’m available. ; ) HIT ME UP IN NYC.
BTW.. blame it on the screenwriter and harwicke for the lame
lines…..
HARDWIKE MADE THE FINAL OK ON THE ACTORS
THE FILM MADE A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY.
AND IT WASN’T THAT BAD I GUARANTEE EVERYONE WILL HAVE A ****** DVD OF IT.
I LIKE IT FROM A FEMALE PERSEPTIVE SOMETIMES.
I’m with gals vs. Stewart, Cath and whoever thought they were adapting it well. I hope they get someone bit more experienced for next sequels. is it too late to swap out stewart for someone who can act?
She hands them Gold on a platter and they crap all over it..nice.
Twilight has made over 100 million more than it cost to make.
Still going strong and making even more overseas.
If it isn’t broke…don’t fix it.
