OlderGossip Girl Spin-Off Starring Lily & Rufus?
The Gossip Girl spin-off will reportedly center around Serena’s mom, Lily, and Dan’s dad, Rufus, currently played by Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle.
“The show will focus on the early romance between Lily and Rufus,” an insider tells Star. “It begins when they first meet, during a time when Rufus and his band are at the height of their career. The show will follow the high society and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle in New York.”
None of the original cast members will be leaving the show as, the insiders adds, “two new actors will be hired to play the young Lily and Rufus. Producers are planning to introduce the new couple during a flashback scene in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl.”

I’ll watch it. I think it’ll be cute! Seeing how they fell in love and what’s up with there new kid and where he is?! And since new actors are going to play them its not gonna change anything on Gossip Girl so thats good too. Oh and is it me or is this season of Gossip Girl THE BEST!!

thats actually a really smart idea. theyre jumping the shark, so to speak, in terms of show comparison. the timescale will have its own interesting dimension. i’d love to work in that wardrobe department!

Sure! This couple is GREAT!
Some say they are boring, and old.. Well guess what!? It says it will be during their younger years AND during the hight of Rufus’ band (I highly doubt that a young guy in a rock band can be major lameass person, and not to mention I bet Lily was a major hottie back then, cuz lets face it the woman is gorgeous!), which makes it pretty clear that they will get a more dramatic story line.. And we will gett the whole story on the baby storyline they are going with on GG for RL. I think its a great idea. To see how the two of them ended up in this mess of a relationship.

That would be wonderful, Rufus and Lily are my favourite couple after Chuck and Blair. I’m not so sure if I’ll watch it though, they’d have to have a pretty damn good cast for that.
I also would watch this show, as Rufus and Lily are pretty much the only thing I love on the original GG. Tolerance, different strokes, etc., some day we will all be as “old” as Rufus and Lily, knock on wood…!

This just reminds me of The OC when they had the flashbacks of the younger Sandy, Kirsten and Jimmy. But I like Rufus and Lily. If this is true, I think it not a bad idea. Although I was guessing if there were a spinoff it would be of Jenny.

interesting idea–i dont think a prequel spin off has ever been done– but i don’t think this idea is meaty enough for a whole series–a telemovie maybe, but a whole season? i don’t think id be all that interested for that long.
I really dont think gossip girl should have a spin off just yet, its only in it’s 2nd season, and its such a great ensemble of characters that taking any of them away or attempting to focus on any of the secondary characters seems uninteresting at this point. They work as a whole for now–I’d wait until the eventual Teen drama college delema arises (what to do with a show when the characters are ready to go off to college)– give the spin off to a main character or two as they go off to school, or follow all the characters off to college and spin off a show for those sticking around–it doesnt matter there are a ton of ways you could work it, but bottom line is THOSE are the characters we want to follow, not a young rufus and lilly–i kinda dont want to know ALL the details of their past romance, i like hearing about it in memories–it’s more romantic.

They are not old and I don’t understand why they can’t be endgame. They have so much chemistry and both the actors are so good, they are totally wasted in that show. TPTB should give those two the spin-off. The 80s show may not work since everyone knows how that relationship ends.
