Brad Pitt Talks Benjamin Button
Brad Pitt and co-star Cate Blanchett sit down for an interview to talk about his new film, Benjamin Button with Premiere.com.
Here are a few quotes:
On the film’s focus on universal moments:
Brad: It focuses on the universal moments. And they seem momunetal on the inside as far as first loves and loss, but it’s the thing that everyone experiences and carries with them.
On the goal of the film:
Brad: The goal was a new openness and honesty and taking responsibility of one’s choices and whatever fate brings you.

Foundation’s gift to schoolchildren grows to $250,000
News-Leader staff • December 16, 2008
A $50,000 gift to buy emergency needs for Springfield Public Schools children has become a $250,000 gift, instead, with a match from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and other philanthropists.
St. John’s Clinic physicians and co-workers raised the first $50,000 through their Force for Good campaign, directing to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools’ Care to Learn fund, officials announced today at St. John’s.
The $200,000 match, which will be available in April, was offered by the founders of the Care to Learn fund.
Local businessman Doug Pitt, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation (which includes actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt); local philanthropist Jim D. Morris and a private donor started the Care to Learn fund with the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools to support schools and students in meeting basic needs.
The needs can include food, health care and hygiene products. The fund so far has provided staple items such as underwear, socks and other personal hygiene supplies to 300 students in schools throughout the district, according to a St. John’s news release.
The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, Morris and the private donor match every donation the fund receives 4 to 1 up to $50,000, the news release said.
“Care To Learn is about immediate funding for emergency needs that are disrupting their classroom experience, Doug Pitt said.
“Upon meeting those needs, my greatest satisfaction is restoring a child’s respect and dignity to walk amongst their peers.”
Care to Learn has provided 2,880 backpacks of food from September through December, said Nancy Fazzino, executive director for Springfield Public Schools Foundation.
Since the program began last year, it has provided vouchers for: 69 pairs of pants/jeans and sweaters, 41 packages of socks and underwear, 35 hygiene products, 20 pairs of shoes, 70 coats, 15 pairs of gloves and 15 winter hats.
The fund has also processed 150 bus vouchers used for emergency bus transportation and to transport the families to Wal-Mart to redeem the vouchers if they do not have a car or are unable to afford transportation.
“In the past two months we have seen an increase in the number of voucher requests from the schools, Fazzino said. “Care to Learn has truly made a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable students.
“I cannot say enough about how wonderful this fund has been and will continue to be. All of our schools have pockets of poverty, some more concentrated than others, but not one is immune,” she said.
“This fund makes it possible to help those children directly and discreetly. The main thing is these children come to school feeling good about themselves and ready to learn on a more level playing field because their most basic needs are being met,” Fazzino said.
“With all that is going on with the economy, I predict an increase in the need in the near future. As I review the requests, almost without exception the requests we have received in the last couple of weeks were due to parents losing their jobs or hours being cut. This fund is a true blessing for our children.”
The Care to Learn project was a natural choice for St. John’s Clinic’s Force for Good, said Donn Sorensen, St. John’s Health System executive vice president.
“It’s troubling to see what some of the kids in our community are going through,” said Sorensen. “We felt the Care to Learn program was a very worthy beneficiary of our Force for Good efforts because it helps kids immediately when they need clothing, food or other necessities.”
Since it began in 2003, the Force for Good, a fund within St. John’s Foundation for Community Health, has raised more than $600,000 for local charities. Funds come from personal donations of physicians and staff and from fundraising activities such as bake sales and special events.
In December 2007, St. John’s Clinic Force for Good was chosen as the winner of the 15th annual Modern Healthcare Magazine Community Spirit of Excellence Award. The Spirit of Excellence Award honors organizations and individuals that go beyond what is expected in serving their patients and communities.

This is the latest ballot in indieWIRE’s 2008 Critics Poll, continuing the tradition of a national survey of critics by calling attention to the year’s best — and, in many cases, most overlooked — films, providing a meaningful counterpoint to much of the year-end hoopla. Note that some lists are unranked at the discretion of the critic. For all categories except Best Undistributed Film,
Best Supporting Performance
1 - J.K. Simmons, Burn After Reading
2 - Lauren McKinney, Paranoid Park
3 - Eamonn Walker, Cadillac Records
4 - Brad Pitt, Burn After Reading
5 - Steve Martin, Baby Mama

Too funny. With all the bodyguards, Papa Pitt has, I am sure Grandma Jane is in good hands. BP would probably tackle the nutjob himself. It is a special occasions bracelet. If Mrs. Jane Pitt is like my mom, You wear it once a year.

Just what everywoman longs for…backhanded compliments from the Grandfather of Magazine P o r n…
Hugh on Jennifer Aniston’s nearly nude GQ magazine cover:
“This looks like the cover of Playboy. I’m much impressed by Jennifer. Is it just me or if you put a bag on her head Jennifer Aniston is getting hotter, right?¦Never seen her in this light before.”
Hugh on who he would like to pose for Playboy:
“Either Angelina Jolie or Scarlett Johansson.”

New Blind Item @ 12/16/2008 at 5:10 pm
Specially now with these new rumors about Angie’s cheating on Brad.

The only new rumors, Shitzy, are the ones you made up and planted on this thread. Do us all a favor, will ya? Swallow a big bottle of cyanide and die in mortal agony.
thank you miz P.T. for the art.
Blind Item is LOL yet AGAIN. She was saying similar things under the LOL name but now she isn’t putting false website addresses in the website section so she doesn’t have the blue name link. LAME!

OT: Queen Oprah expands her empire. Maybe, she can get her bestest pal a movie deal.
HBO, Winfrey’s production company reaches deal
NEW YORK (AP) — HBO and Oprah Winfrey’s production company say they have reached an exclusive three-year deal to develop movies and miniseries.
Winfrey’s company, Harpo Films, had been working with ABC for 15 years.
Kate Forte, head of Harpo Films, says she expects to make a more eclectic mix of programming than was featured on ABC, which focused on movies positive in tone. She said HBO was a better fit, although she wouldn’t detail any of the material she has in mind.
It hasn’t been discussed whether Winfrey would act in any of the projects.
Jennifer Aniston Must Never Be Single, Apparently
-
Going to a party alone can be hard sometimes - especially if it’s your party and everyone is desperate for you to fail.
-
So Jennifer Aniston wasn’t taking any chances when it came to her Marley And Me premiere recently. Although she’s going out with a boy who looks like her nephew, Jennifer Aniston wanted to make damn sure that she wouldn’t go to her premiere alone.
-
That’s why Jennifer Aniston reportedly got her agents to find some famous actors who’d act as her standby boyfriend if John Mayer dropped out. And, to be fair, they’d all probably be more convincing than John Mayer.
-
This is a tough month for Jennifer Aniston. Not only is she breaking her back to promote a movie that’s basically Beethoven with all the rough edges smoothed off, but she knows that her movie opens on the same day as The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, the film by her ex-husband Brad Pitt.
-
To make it harder, Brad’s film is being spoken of as a serious Oscar contender, while Aniston’s film is about a funny dog who poos everywhere. And, to make it harder still, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are currently locked into a kind of high-stakes death-spiral battle for publicity. If Brad Pitt talks about his kids, then Jennifer Aniston has to pretend she wants kids. If Brad Pitt talks about Angelina Jolie, then Jennifer Aniston has to whap her boobies out in a magazine. It’s endless.
-
But at least Jennifer Aniston got a moment of respite at the Marley And Me premiere recently, where she could totally be herself without even having to think about Brad Pitt. Unless, of course, her on/off boyfriend John Mayer split up with her beforehand, in which Jennifer Aniston planned to hyperventilate on the red carpet, hunch into the foetal position and whimper “Oh God no, oh God no, I’m so alone, I’m so very alone” in front of the world’s media.
-
Or, as a rumoured Plan B, Jennifer Aniston would just get her agents to set up a hokey relationship with whichever unfortunate Hollywood actor happened to nearest at any given moment in time. The LA Times reports:
-
According to the New York Post, during their split, Aniston’s camp was shopping for a potential date because poor Jen “did not want to be single when her movie opened… A friend of her agent was calling around asking for young men whom they could set her up with,” a source told the N.Y. Post. But the attempt to find a replacement for Mayer failed and - as if by magic - Mayer and Aniston got back together.
-
Now, OK, yes, if that’s true it does sound toe-curlingly embarrassing for Jennifer Aniston - but it happens all the time in Hollywood. Even Brad Pitt does it. Admittedly instead of getting a friend or his agent to ring round a bunch of actresses and plead with them to pretend to be his girlfriend for one night, Brad Pitt just found a stable partner to mother his children and share his life with. But, you know, it’s close enough.
-
Anyway, it doesn’t matter how true this rumour is, because Jennifer Aniston will see this story as a victory anyway. It’s accomplished her two prime directives in life - firstly it’s got her name in print again, and secondly it draws attention away from the fact that she’s made a rubbishy-looking film about a dog. Congratulations, Jennifer!

Eric Roth Interview, Curious Case of Benjamin Button
MoviesOnline: Keeping that chronological mix working is I think a real testament to Brad’s skill as an actor, that he was able to give it the mental attitude of somebody who is so different from his physical appearance. What sort of leap of faith was it in the technology to be able to produce on film what you can imagine on paper?
ERIC ROTH: I don’t have to worry about it. I guess that’s one of the first things. If you, as a screenwriter, say “World War I broke out,” that’s going to happen if they like the material, and to how big or small it is, and that might take a sentence or less, just like that. It could obviously take 10 minutes, you know, so page count is funny that way too. I just believed they’d be able to figure out a way to do it. I had no clue on how to do it.
As a matter of fact, at first they were not technologically ready for it when I finished the screenplay. They were even toying with the idea of maybe having 4 or 5 different people play Benjamin – maybe like Redford and then Pitt – in other words, to go down in age. So that’s interesting. I don’t know how it would have worked. We always felt that Kathy Kennedy who certainly knows how to do these things – she did Jurassic Park and everything – we all felt that it would be better if we were able technologically to do it. The gamble is, if it doesn’t work, it will look silly. And David is really a whiz at that. He’s amazing.
Plus, what I find sort of incredible about it, and Spike Jonze said this in an interview [on aging gracefully in Vanity Fair, 11/18/08] about the movie, because he’s created not only the technological aspect of this but he’s created characters and Brad has to act that too. It’s always Brad. It’s Brad in somewhat different incarnations, but he has to play that part and also it has to be believable, so it’s this little creature that has a sense of humor, it has emotions, and it’s a pretty incredible thing that I think David did.
Who wants to steal this bracelet, you can’t sale it, everyone will know it’s a stolen item, with all the names of the Jolie-Pitts children on each shoes. The thief will never get away with that….unless, the thief wants to keep it for him/herself.

Worst Couples of 2008
4. John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston. We have just about had it up to here with the Aniston-Pitt-Angelina-Vaughn-Mayer saga. Just marry John Mayer already and call it a day, please? Thanks.
It’s a charm bracelet #1020, so they come off. I hope Jane doesn’t wear that around Springfield. Someone should give them a head’s up that her bracelet’s been id’d (along w/ the value) and to keep that baby underwraps when she goes out.
A great new Brad video…but someone might have already posted it ….
