Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens Hit Up Barney’s

I think a lot of people don’t get why we Zac fans don’t want him to do HS2. For me, it has nothing to do with who his costars are. I really hate to see him do another musical and be typecast.

Heck, I don’t even want him to do Footloose. Not after having done 17 Again and MAOW. IF he does Footloose, I hope they don’t make it into a musical. Just a drama with him doing some dancing. But even that will typecast him.

I hope he has smart people advising him on what to do and that they are looking at his long rang career and not the paycheck.

I know Malia, I was dismayed when he confirmed Footloose. I guess he’d committed to it way back.

I thought HSM 3 was pushing it and was so happy when he stated that would be the end. I would protest just as loudly, if not more, if I heard he was doing HSM 4. His co-stars are irrelevant.

I’m still not really happy about Footloose, Shia is just a year or two older than Zac but is quickly building up a solid resume and working with the best, look at Lucas with Milk and Emile Hirsch’s resume. So many more young promising actors are coming up as well.

I feel like giving Zac a shake and say, get a move on, boy! lol
It’s just that hollywood is particularly harsh with heartthrobs. It took Leo Dicaprio a while to break out of that stigma and he wasn’t even doing musicals.

I don’t mind something coming in the way of his doing Footloose.

HS2 is just a disaster in the making, careerwise, but I’ll give him and his management the benefit of the doubt for now. i doubt that he can be bullied into doing it.

I can’t say I think Footloose would be a definite mistake. It would depend on how it was written and done. I guess I don’t see movies like Footloose (Kevin Bacon’s version) or Dirty Dancing in the same light as I do Hairspray, HSM, Greese, Camelot, or even Chicago. Some might mistake it that way since it would have music and dancing involved but if you know the basis and anything about the movies as the bigwigs of Hollywood should then they should know there is a definite difference. But I think it is very important that 17 Again and MAOW would be out and seen by the public and hopefully Zac would be also working on another such project BEFORE Footloose would be released. It would also help if 17 Again and MAOW would do well at the boxoffice. Given how wonderful he was in the Scream number in HSM I think he would be outstanding in Footloose. If done right it also may give him him a step up in a dramtic role.

I will admit that I don’t want to see him paired with the likes of Nikki Blonsky again as I have lost all kinds of respect for her. It has nothing to do with some teenage idea that Zac can’t be onscreen with anyone but Vanessa however. I have no fear that Zac is suddenly going to run off with her if he is around her! How ridiculous. I also think to do some sequel to such an icon as Hairspray is a bad idea and is likely to fail. For me it is kind of like someone trying to do a sequel to Camelot. It is like some things are just etched in stone…Camelot and Hairspray are kind of like that and should be left alone.

I looked for the Australian interview and couldn’t find it. It was the one in which Zac was talking about Footloose and said something like “I can’t say.” And then when the interviewer started another topic, Zac said, “Committed. That’s the word. I’m not committed to it yet.” I’m not sure those were his exact words, but it was something like that.

BTW, I think that’s a plaid jacket Zac is wearing in the picture posted on this thread and the Costco picture. Not a shirt. Perfect for the 50 degree weather in California. :)

And somebody said there’s another stupid Hairspray story on JJ Jr. Something about Zac (Link) using LSD. :(

Thanks Malia, ignore that story, this is a way for Adam to guage public interest by throwing around ideas and names. They’re still working on the script (which still sounds silly). The more I hear, the less I believe the remote possibility that Zac would even consider that.

That interview is the reason I’m not believing any rubbish about HS 2 till Zac confirms it.

Whatever Zac’s flaws may be ( he has his, and I’ve criticized some of them), one thing I always give him credit for is his thoughtfulness, commitment to his career and to quality work.

-he had the opportunity but did not take the offer of making album because he felt he had nothing to contribute (that was up to his standards anyway).

-His determination not to commit to HSM 3 despite the success and hype till he had read the script.

-And his approach to Footloose. I’m happy he’s holding out till the approach and script are right, despite his relationship with Kenny.

That quote is the reason I believe he’s not going to sign on for HS 2.

Vanessa has called him a perfectionist when it comes to work. He will not be part of something except he’s convinced it has something to add to his career.

The last thing that can be said about Zac is that he’s someone that goes with the flow. No, he’s not. He thinks for himself, and rationally too.

Karen, I’m really hoping that footloose will be done right. At least, I’m happy that Zac realizes that and is insisting on that.

Yes, Karen, I think Adam is putting feelers out there to see what the reactions are. All the responses I’ve seen to Internet articles have been negative. Even from Hairspray fans.

as today is the first year anniversary of Palm Spring, i just want to recall the significance of Zac bringing Van as his date to this public event of his first major film on screen. I remember all the talk then, but now after a year, if anything, their relationship has just gotten stronger. Live in Love…sigh…

I know Zac is smart guy and I believe with the way he is carefully studying Footloose, Hairspray will also have the same fate, regardless how much the offer will be. And I do think it will be very hard for the team of Adam Shankman to get Zac to play Link Larkin again, considering how shallow the story possibly be.

And I have to agree with everyone here, hopefully he will not accept the sequel and concentrate on other acting department as his talent is undeniable, for sure it will not be hard for him to get other challenging roles.
